Chapter 75
Chapter 75
Seeing my expression still cold as ice, a flash of gloom clearly crossed Ella's face.
But she quickly recovered. She grabbed my hand and continued, "I'm not just here to apologize this time. I've brought you some news!"
I didn't say anything. Ella continued.
"It's about Jane from the Ross family. Don't you want to hear what I have to say?"
I looked at her.
I had just been thinking about investigating Jane, and now Ella was volunteering information about her. Was this a coincidence, or a trap deliberately set by her?
Under my gaze, Ella put on an innocent act.
"I really did bring you news this time. It's definitely important to you!"
Ella enthusiastically pulled at me. I nodded, and only then did Ella seem relieved, quickly saying to me, "Jane has connections with an overseas organization, and there are financial transactions too. This is the information I investigated. Take a look."
Ella pulled out some prepared documents from her bag and placed them in front of me.
I flipped through a few pages of the documents and raised my eyebrows. I had to admit, the information in these documents was very complete, investigating Jane thoroughly from beginning to end.
But I knew better.
Ella didn't have the ability to investigate this much information.
Under my stare, Ella was obviously a bit scared.
She coughed awkwardly, "What's wrong? Are you not satisfied with this information?"
I smiled.
"I'm not dissatisfied. I'm too satisfied."
Ella visibly relaxed.
"I'm so glad I could help you. You don't know how guilty I've felt about what happened before. Can you please not hold it against me? I apologize to you. I'll do whatever you want me to do."
Ella's eyes were full of guilt, but I didn't believe a single word she said.
Seeing me stay silent, she tried to act cute again.
"What happened before wasn't such a big deal. You've brought me good news today, so don't worry, I won't hold it against you."
Anyone can say nice things.
After hearing this, Ella immediately smiled and nodded.
She didn't stay long. As she left, I kept staring at her back.
I didn't believe that Ella was sharing this information for my benefit. More likely, she wanted to use me as a weapon, to use me against Jane.
I slowly pulled at the corner of my mouth.
If she wanted to do this, she'd have to see if I was willing to cooperate.
"Hello, Ms. Smith. Due to technical issues, the wedding dress delivery will be delayed. We'll have to trouble you to wait a bit longer."
On the day I was supposed to try on the wedding dress, the bridal shop called to notify me.
But I heard other voices in the background. Although they were far from the phone, I managed to piece together a few fragments.
It wasn't technical issues at all—something had happened to the dress itself.
"I'll come see it myself."
Hearing my words, the staff member seemed anxious.
"No need, no need. We can handle it. Once the dress is ready, we'll notify you immediately to come try it on."
"This afternoon, are you available?" I asked directly.
That afternoon, I went to the bridal shop myself.
As soon as I walked in, someone came up to greet me.
And I finally saw my wedding dress.
The dress that should have been finished had its shoulder straps cut, and the decorations were damaged. There was hardly a part that looked intact.
I immediately thought of the photo I'd received that day.
That wedding dress looked just like what I was seeing now.
"Ms. Smith, we're terribly sorry. This is our fault. We'll make it right as soon as possible."
The bridal shop manager standing nearby kept apologizing with her head down.
A cold smile appeared at the corner of my mouth. "Have you investigated who damaged the dress?"
The shop manager shook her head. "The shop's surveillance was damaged at the time. We couldn't capture anything."
I laughed coldly. How could there be such a coincidence in this world? Damaged just like that?
This was deliberate!
"Besides your shop's surveillance, what about the neighboring shops' cameras?"
"Call the police. I need an answer by today, or this matter isn't over!"
"According to the contract we signed, you need to compensate me!"
My harsh words clearly made the manager more nervous, but they were very effective.
Because not long after I said this, I received the investigation results.
"This is a temporary worker from our bridal shop, but he's already quit. We can't reach him right now, but we can almost confirm that he was the one who damaged the dress."
I looked at the person in the photo and said slowly, "Give me his personal information. I'll have someone investigate."
After getting his information, I sent it directly to Tom. Tom was fast. By the time I appeared at the Johnson Group again and sat with Michael, the information Tom investigated had already reached my phone.
At this moment, Michael was holding my waist and wouldn't let go. His chin kept rubbing against my neck, his hot breath enveloping my neck. I couldn't refuse at all.
As I looked down at the message, Michael saw it too.
"Someone actually dared to mess with our wedding." Seeing the message, Michael's tone was full of mockery.
I reached out and gently patted his shoulder.
"What does Mr. Johnson plan to do?"
"Find the person behind this and make him kneel before you and apologize!"
I grabbed Michael's arm. "You don't need to be so angry. It's just a wedding dress."
Hearing me say this, Michael got anxious.
"This is not a small matter. I've been waiting for you to marry me, and that person did something like this. I will definitely..."
Seeing Michael getting more and more agitated, I hugged his waist directly.
"Alright, Mr. Johnson, don't be angry anymore."
Being comforted by me, Michael was very pleased. He held me tighter.
"That depends on who we find out was behind messing with our wedding dress."
I had thought it might be Jane or Ella who arranged for someone to do this, but I never expected this matter would be related to the Brown family.
"The Brown family, and John."
Mentioning John's name, Michael's expression became noticeably darker.
"It must be John!"
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Michael really had too much of a grudge against John.
The investigation revealed that the temporary worker had business dealings with a company owned by John's father overseas. That company had transferred $200,000 to the temporary worker's account.
Two hundred thousand dollars was enough for an ordinary person to risk doing certain things.
"Besides him, what other lowlife could do something like this! He must still have feelings for you."
"But John's father may not help him," I said.
After all, from a certain perspective, John had lost most of his usefulness to the Brown family.
