Chapter 67
I laughed.
Right in front of Stella, I said with a smile, "Well then, thank you for the compliment about my face. I guess my face really is quite good-looking."
Stella was instantly speechless, probably didn't expect me to be so shameless.
After she left, the company went through a major shakeup. After all, for Stella to have manipulated the evaluation reports so much, it was absolutely impossible that no one in the company helped her!
And most likely, everyone involved got something out of it.
After firing a few people and punishing a few others, the matter finally came to an end.
But now, almost everyone was being extra careful, trying their best to avoid making mistakes.
Stella's departure was a warning to all of them!
Besides, a few employees who had been suppressed by Stella finally saw a glimmer of hope after I made suggestions to Michael.
Because they finally didn't have to be pushed down anymore.
I also became incredibly busy because of the merger of the two groups. I was working around the clock, and for several days, I didn't even have a proper chat with Michael. Although Michael was by my side every day, he was clearly frustrated. I was just thinking about when I could find some time to spend with him when something else went wrong on my end.
That morning, Isla from my team brought me a document. It was a project that was already in its final stages. The last step only required my signature, and it would be done.
After that, we just needed to confirm everything was correct before acceptance and payment.
But in the afternoon, Isla came to me anxiously, "Nancy, there's a problem. The client is saying that all the core data for that project is wrong and can't be used!"
I frowned.
How was that possible!
This project had already been underway before I arrived, and according to my memory, the Johnson Group project was a complete success. There was no way something could go wrong!
That was exactly why I had decided I could spend some time with Michael after this project ended. Now what should I do?
"It's okay, let our own people do the verification and figure out what's really going on!"
Before our verification team even started working, the Johnson Group's competitor had already released all our core data information.
After comparison, this core data was exactly the same as what we had done.
In other words, someone had leaked our data and set up a trap for us together with the other party.
Everyone held an emergency meeting. As the person in charge of this project, I naturally needed to speak.
But after I had only said a few words, a company leader suddenly said, "Nancy, as the person in charge of this project and the one with the easiest access to the project data, is it possible that you released the project data?"
I frowned, "Mr. Gray, I have no reason to do that. Besides, you're putting the blame on me for no reason—do you have evidence?"
Sean Gray didn't speak, but the others were clearly pointing fingers at me. I knew clearly that all of them thought this matter had a lot to do with me.
"That's enough!" Michael suddenly spoke up. "When something goes wrong in the company, you blame it on a colleague. Don't talk nonsense without evidence!"
Although Michael spoke up for me, I could clearly sense that everyone was still looking at me with suspicion.
But I wasn't panicked. I met everyone's eyes, "Don't worry, everyone. I would never leak business secrets. As for who did it, I will definitely find that person! That person better be ready for a lawsuit!"
After the meeting ended, Michael called me to his office in front of everyone.
As soon as I walked in, Michael hugged me, "Are you okay? That guy, I'll arrange to send him abroad."
Michael was secretly helping me. I said helplessly, "Alright, let's find the person first! After all, someone who can leak company secrets—who knows if they'll cause us trouble again in the future."
When I put it that way, Michael understood.
"I believe in you."
Michael whispered sweet words in my ear. I laughed, "Michael, you really don't doubt me at all!"
Michael responded without hesitation, "Of course not. After all, what's mine is yours. There's no need for you to sell the company—how much money would that even be?"
I fell silent. That was true. No one would sell their own family's company for profit. How stupid would that be?
So the person trying to frame me was also stupid.
After I left Michael's office, I quickly returned to my desk and called Isla over.
"Nancy, what do you need?"
Isla was obviously also stressed from work. She came over, bent down, wiped away some sweat, and asked me.
"About the core data, only part of it was released. We still have another part..."
That evening, we all left work normally. Work matters had to stay at the company and absolutely couldn't be taken home.
The next morning, when I arrived at the company, Isla was already waiting for me. "Nancy, I'm here to get the materials. Didn't you tell me to come this morning?"
I nodded. After sitting down, I reached inside my desk to look for the materials, but when I felt around inside, the materials I had put there yesterday had disappeared!
Isla looked at my stiff movements strangely. "Nancy, what's wrong?"
I said with a smile, "Nothing much, just that someone made another move."
Isla was shocked and scared. "Who is it? Who would betray the company?"
I leaned back in my chair, "What does it matter who it is? The main thing is, after what happened with Stella, someone still dares to work with outsiders. How bold!"
The news that my remaining core materials had been stolen spread quickly, and the company held another meeting. But this meeting was directed at me.
Sean's face was dark. "Nancy, I think your work ability is really mediocre. One project, and problems keep happening again and again. You really should give us a satisfactory answer!"
Sean was aggressive. Isla sat beside me with her head down.
I laughed. "Mr. Gray, I know who stole the materials."
As soon as I said this, everyone looked at me in shock. Michael, sitting at the head of the table, crossed his arms and watched me shine in front of all these people.
"Actually, I think everyone wants to know," I spoke slowly.
Sean slammed the table, "I think you're just talking nonsense. If you knew, why would you wait until today!"
But I said with a smile, "Mr. Gray, you seem to have been very anxious from the beginning. Those who don't know might think you're the one who leaked the company secrets."
As soon as I said this, Sean almost exploded. "You're talking nonsense! I didn't even have a chance to access the files!"
