Chapter 66
That voice was so soft and gentle, it even seemed to carry a hint of seduction.
I smiled.
Michael wasn't the type to be seduced—whoever this was would surely be disappointed.
Sure enough, the next moment, there came a loud crash of glass hitting the floor from outside, followed by even louder sobbing from a woman.
Michael said irritably, "If you can do the work, then work hard. If you can't, then leave. The company doesn't need people who rely on their looks to get positions!"
The woman left. Michael soon came in, his expression already softened.
Seeing him like this, I pretended to be dramatic. "Michael, what's wrong with you? People who don't know better would think someone upset you."
Michael pulled me into his arms, lifted me up by the waist, and placed me on the bed. "What's wrong with me? Don't you know perfectly well?"
Michael, after being hit on, was completely unhappy—such a stark contrast to John.
Seeing him like this, I laughed again. It seemed that in this life, my choice wasn't wrong.
Michael held me, unwilling to let me go. "Stay with me, let's take an afternoon nap."
I nestled into his arms and somehow actually fell asleep, only to be woken up by Michael around one o'clock.
Food was already laid out on the table in the lounge.
"Come eat. I had my assistant bring it up. After eating, rest a bit more, then you can go to work. Wait for me tonight—I'll pick you up for dinner."
Michael arranged everything carefully, as if afraid I'd run off. Seeing him like this, my heart felt sweet, and I leaned in to kiss him.
"What, are you reluctant to let me go?"
Michael wasn't one to be shy. He immediately pulled me close again. "Yes, I'm reluctant. I wish I could keep you by my side every moment, preferably so you could never leave me!"
Michael's eyes were intense and serious. I could sense he meant it.
But he quickly reined in that emotion. "But I won't do that. You should be someone who shines."
With that, he held me tight.
After eating, I left his office, only to run into Stella Hall at the door—the very woman who had just tried to seduce Michael.
Seeing me leave Michael's office, Stella's eyes seemed poisoned, glaring at me viciously.
I smiled faintly and left, ignoring her.
But Stella actually came after me.
When she stormed in, I was in a meeting with other project team members. She slammed a document heavily on the table across from me.
"Nancy! What grudge do you have against me to treat me like this?" Stella stared at me hard, as if I'd ruined her work.
Well, I actually had. The project Michael canceled—Stella was one of the people in charge. If that project had been completed, Stella could have gotten a promotion and raise at the company.
Unfortunately, there were problems with that project. Whether it proceeded or not, Stella's promotion dream was just a dream.
The other team members were startled by Stella's sudden appearance. I picked up the document from the table, slowly opened it, looked at the contents, and smiled. I didn't deny Stella's assumption.
"It's true that I told Mr. Johnson there were problems with this project. The investigation results proved my suggestion was correct. Do you think there's something wrong with the company's investigation?"
My smile was gentle, seemingly without any pressure, but Stella's chest kept heaving. Finally, she said through gritted teeth, "This is the result of our overtime work for so long, all our hard work. Even if there are problems, we can solve them. You're a newcomer who just joined not long ago—I question your professionalism!"
Stella stared at me intently.
After saying this, she actually looked at the other members of our team, speaking with great manipulative power. "She's a newcomer, and you've been at the company for who knows how long. Are you really willing to let her stand above you?"
My team members exchanged glances but said nothing.
Stella seemed even more pleased with herself.
She looked at me provocatively. "Someone like you with no professionalism should leave the company right away, before you cause some irreversible damage to the company!"
I sighed. "Irreversible damage—are you talking about the project you were in charge of before?"
My question stunned Stella. She looked at me. "What do you mean?"
I didn't say much more to her, but instead projected a document onto the big screen in the conference room. It was the evaluation report for the project Stella had been in charge of before, with Stella's name clearly written on it.
Unfortunately, the evaluation was fake. Many key data points had been altered, and there were even fatal flaws visible on the surface.
Every single one was a rebuttal to the professionalism Stella had just mentioned.
This was what Michael had given me when I came down from upstairs—his assistant had already investigated it.
Stella was stunned. "Work naturally has flaws."
Seeing her like that, I smiled.
Right in front of her, I took out my phone, placed it in front of her, and played a recording.
"Ms. Hall, thank you. As long as the cooperation is reached, I'll definitely make it worth your while."
"Ms. Hall, how about we go out for dinner tonight?"
"Ms. Hall, I've already transferred the money to your account."
Besides these, there were also Stella's smiling responses. "Okay, happy cooperation!"
...
When these recordings played, Stella's face turned completely white.
I tilted my head slightly, looking at Stella in front of me, and asked very kindly, "Excuse me, Ms. Hall, do you have any questions about your behavior that damaged the company's interests?"
Stella shuddered. "I was wrong! I was wrong! Forgive me, I'll never do such things again."
I said coldly and directly, "After discussion among the company's senior leadership, Stella, you're fired! As for the company interests you damaged, the company will legally require you to compensate!"
This was supposed to be announced at tonight's meeting, but since Stella came to me herself, announcing it early didn't matter.
After hearing my words, Stella's face turned pale. I knew she wanted to beg for mercy, but right now, begging was useless.
The news of Stella's dismissal instantly spread throughout the project department. Besides that, Stella's team was directly merged into mine, and all the work was handed over to me.
When I went to handle the handover, Stella's expression was full of hostility.
She stared at me and said, "So what if you pushed me out? You're just an airborne hire. Everyone knows you have no ability—you're just a pretty face!"
