Chapter 58 The Actor
Chapter 58 The Actor
Lila let out a drunken hiccup and wiped her tears on the man's warm shirt.
"All you guys are jerks. No one cares about my feelings..."
"Stop crying, it's driving me nuts!"
Killian was so annoyed by her constant sobbing that he couldn't think straight.
He completely forgot that this was the first time in his life a woman had slapped him.
And yet, because of Lila's trembling accusations, he actually felt like everything was his fault.
He took a deep breath, parted his cool lips, and sighed helplessly, "Whoever said that no one cares about you?"
Lila looked up at him with her tear-filled doe eyes.
"You're a liar. Do you think you are Killian?"
Playing the part to the fullest, as a top screenwriter for prime-time dramas, Lila had mastered the art of delivering heart-wrenching lines.
"Look closely! I am Killian, your husband."
He emphasized again, trying to keep his temper in check.
"Really?"
Her smile was almost splitting her face, but she tried hard to suppress the joy of potentially inheriting a billion-dollar fortune.
"You're not lying to me?"
"Absolutely not."
Killian had never been so patient explaining the same damn thing over and over to anyone in his life.
"If you understand, get off me right now."
His cold gaze landed squarely on the new laptop on the black coffee table.
"And explain why this laptop is in your hands."
Could Lila be the hacker?
Lila obediently released her grip from his waist.
"Laptop? Oh... it was there when I came in. I was just playing games on it. Is there a problem?"
Her face was full of innocent naivety.
Killian's sharp eyes scanned her, trying to find any clue on her face.
"You better not be lying to me!"
He easily captured her chin with two fingers, forcing her to look up at him.
She tilted her head, trying to escape his grasp.
"You're so rude, why are you pinching me!"
Seeing no reaction from him, she coquettishly added, "Oh, honey, are you trying to kiss me?"
Killian immediately let go of her as if electrocuted, his tone tinged with a bit of anger, "Lila!"
"Yes, honey!"
Killian was exasperated.
Even though he felt suffocated with frustration, seeing Lila's drunken little face made him feel that being too harsh would be bullying.
He had no choice but to grab a male attendant, the same one Lila had almost touched earlier.
"You tell me, in this room, besides her, has anyone touched this laptop in the last fifteen minutes?"
"I'm sorry, Mr. Hart. I've been attending to Miss Voss since I came in, so I didn't... didn't notice."
The attendant bowed in fear.
"You're really dedicated."
Killian suddenly praised him out of nowhere.
"Thank you, Mr. Hart. It's just my job."
"Serving my wife while I'm not around must be tough for you." Killian's sarcastic tone had a chilling edge.
The attendant's heart skipped a beat. "I'm sorry, Mr. Hart. I didn't know she was your wife. If I had known, I wouldn't have dared."
Killian interrupted him, "She mentioned you have abs?"
The attendant hesitated, then nodded.
"Take off your shirt."
"What?"
"You were halfway there earlier. Keep going."
"Mr. Hart, I..."
"Take it off!"
On the verge of tears, the attendant lifted his shirt, revealing his four-pack abs.
"Is this what she wanted to touch?"
Killian gave him a disdainful look. "Confidence should be backed by substance. Since she likes your abs so much, I'll give you a chance to train for an eight-pack. Pack up, someone will pick you up for survival training tomorrow."
The survival camp on Vesperhaven's outskirts was notorious for being a hellish special forces training ground.
He was just a pampered male attendant.
What did he do to deserve being sent to such a place? The attendant's legs went weak, almost fainted on the spot.
Killian nonchalantly continued, "By the way, who did she say had nice fingers?"
His expression was blank, his tone as casual as commenting on the weather.
"Find him and cut off his hands."
"Mr. Hart, please! I didn't do anything. My hands aren't even a fraction as nice as yours. Please, let me go!"
Another man, on the verge of tears, almost knelt before Killian.
Killian calmly said, "Some facts don't need your commentary."
Lila thought, 'Could he be any more narcissistic?'
Of course, he was right.
Killian's ten fingers were unbelievably beautiful.
Even worldwide, no man had hands as good-looking as his.
Lila admitted that.
But she had hoped to use the men to divert Killian's attention and clear her own suspicion.
Unexpectedly, it backfired, dragging two innocent handsome men into the mess.
Feeling a bit guilty, she tried to make amends, "Oh? I looked again, and his hands are ugly. Yours are the best, honey."
With that, Lila playfully took his right hand and examined it.
Even his nails were pristine, clean, and spotless.
"Trying to save him?"
Killian didn't pull his hand back, letting her hold it.
With a 20-centimeter height difference, he had to look down at her.
"No way!"
She wouldn't dare admit it.
Killian gestured in the air with his left hand.
A black-clad bodyguard quickly approached to take the man away.
The man, believing every word Killian said, pleaded, "Mr. Hart! Give me a chance to redeem myself. I saw... I saw the person you're looking for!"
Killian made a pause gesture, "Speak."
