Chapter 56 Then Go Die
Chapter 56 Then Go Die
In the backseat, Killian's long fingers drummed rhythmically on the leather seat.
"Mr. Hart, we've found her!"
Killian's thoughts were abruptly interrupted, and he looked up.
"Where?"
Charles hesitated, biting his lip. "Well... our intel might be off. I don't think Miss Voss would go to a place like this."
"Quit stalling. Where is Lila?"
Charles quickly responded, his nervousness evident. "At Nightshade."
"Where?" Killian thought he misheard.
Charles could feel the temperature in the car drop several degrees.
He spoke rapidly out of fear.
"At Nightshade Bar, Mr. Hart..."
Killian gritted his teeth.
Lila was really pushing her luck.
They had just gotten their marriage certificate, yet she was already out playing around in broad daylight.
"Mr. Hart, should I inform the owner to keep an eye on Miss Voss?" Charles suggested tentatively, his tongue trembling slightly.
"No need," Killian tossed the license onto the seat. "Drive! I'll handle her myself!"
Nightshade.
Amidst the deafening DJ music, Lila, wearing a mask, tapped a tiny Bluetooth earpiece. "Where are you?"
"Straight ahead at twelve o'clock," a man in a baseball cap said, lowering his brim as he headed towards the stairs leading to the second-floor private rooms.
Lila followed immediately.
The man in the baseball cap pushed open the door to the corner room on the second floor.
The lights came on, revealing a new Apple laptop on the black coffee table.
"What kind of job is this? So sudden?" Lila removed her mask and sat on the sofa.
The man, chewing gum, tossed a USB drive onto the table with a smirk. "The target's info is in there. You have half an hour to breach the firewall, steal the partner's data, and make sure their stock crashes before the market closes."
"What kind of grudge is this? Going so hard?"
"Who cares? When the big shots fight, we make money. The commission is substantial. Based on the stock drop, if it falls by a billion, you get ten percent."
Ten percent, that was a hundred million.
As the perennial number one on the international hacker list, Lila had taken on many unimaginable jobs over the years. But this was the biggest one yet.
"Which company is so unlucky?"
If she took this on, it would be a life-or-death situation.
She was determined to cut down this company's stock.
But when Lila saw the info on the USB drive, her fingers froze.
The target today was Hart Enterprises.
That was Killian's company.
"Hart Enterprises isn't easy to deal with. Who's the client, coming in so big?"
"You never used to ask about the clients."
Jason Miller, the former bartender, glanced at Lila suspiciously. "And this time, the client hid all their IP addresses, so I don't know who they are. But I can guarantee that if the job's done, the money will be there."
"So confident?"
"Of course. I've been with you for years. I have to have some confidence. There are only thirty minutes left until the market closes. Are you taking the job or not?"
Lila stared at the time in the corner of the screen.
Images of Killian pushing Eirlys into the car and driving off without looking back flashed through her mind, making her fists itch to hit something.
This was intolerable!
"Take it! Why not! I'm going to make that bastard's stock crash so hard!" Lila cracked her knuckles and got to work, her slender fingers flying over the keyboard.
Seeing Lila in such a murderous mood, Jason almost choked on his gum.
What happened to Lila?
Did she get dumped?
This crazy look was terrifying.
If the laptop weren't so sturdy, it would have several holes by now from her furious typing.
"Take it easy..."
"Shut up! I'm going to make his stock drop by a billion dollars today!"
Lila's eyes were bloodshot as she furiously typed code, her determination driving her to breach Hart Enterprises' firewall in record time.
At the entrance of Nightshade.
Killian stormed towards the opulent, gold-trimmed doors, but Charles, holding his phone, urgently called out to him.
"Mr. Hart, bad news! Hart Enterprises is being hacked by the top hacker on the list. Client data is leaking, and the stock price has dropped five percent in three minutes!"
Hart Enterprises' stock was worth thousands per share, with a massive base.
That five percent represented hundreds of millions of dollars lost in three minutes.
"The top hacker? Why would he target Hart Enterprises?"
"He hasn't been active online for a long time. This sudden attack is unexpected..."
"Isn't there anyone in the tech department who can fend him off?"
"Mr. Hart, he is too strong. Even the second-best hacker wouldn't stand a chance..." Charles wiped his sweat.
"Useless bunch!"
With the company being attacked by a top hacker, the losses would be immeasurable if it weren't stopped.
Killian cursed and ordered, "Get me a laptop!"
Charles quickly prepared one and secured a quiet private room.
Inside, Killian's fingers flew over the keyboard, his dark eyes reflecting streams of blue code.
Lila was indeed formidable, her attack fierce and his IP well-hidden.
Even after a round of battling, Killian struggled to gain the upper hand.
