Chapter 47 - The Tycoon Alpha's Temptation

ALPHA KING JOSH’S POV

I knew she had been on my tail.

Rose might have backed down yesterday after I commanded it but she was a woman who knew how to get what she wanted… Just like she got me that night in the dark.

And because of that trait, I pulled myself back yesterday when things became heated between us in her room. I thought I should give her some space and she would come to me when she is ready to have me.

I wanted her. That was a fact.

And I would keep chasing her until she is ready to be mine and also share her fears with me.

However, I needed her to show me some green light. I wanted her to show signs that she wanted me to keep chasing her.

After all, I had feelings too. I get hurt. My ego gets bruised and my heart also suffers just like everyone else no matter how ruthless I have made others believe I was.

“What if she finds a way to follow us here, Josh? It wouldn't be good for her to see or hear what will be discussed here today and is this even a good location?”

Max worry about Rose who had become my stalker since Adam told her that I was meeting another woman. I smiled thinking back to the dumbfounded expression she had on her face yesterday when she asked me for clarity.

I would have provided her with that but seeing that she showed her jealousy and also became a tad bit possessive, I couldn't tell her that there was no other woman. I chose to let her mind wander and that way she would become more expressive with her feelings.

At least that was what I assumed–

And it happened like that until this morning. I realized Rose wouldn't take her eyes off me even when we were on the training ground with numerous warriors.

Adam also noticed and we both realized that we needed to shake her off. After all, we were meeting with the spies that I told Adam to hire. There was no one I would let Rose be anywhere near those unpredictable creatures.

Imagine my relief when her group of warriors grabbed her attention and gave me the chance to slip away from the training grounds without alerting Rose. I was certain she wouldn't find me here.

That confidence made me respond to Max, “She can’t find me, Max and this is a perfect location. No one comes to the isolated and cursed lakeside. She also won't be able to find her way here.”

The lake had many rumors surrounding it and my pack members have avoided the lake like it was cursed. It was a mystery how the lakeside was able to remain clean even though no one used it.

The lake was also clean and I was tempted to dip my toes into it but Adam voiced, “We have to be careful, My King. we arent certain the lake isn't–”

“Demonic like the pack has claimed? Are you scared I will be grabbed by a mysterious hand and it will drown me? You care about me, Adam? Awnn.”

I teased Adam with a hushed tone just like he did. The look on Adam’s face cracked me up but I stopped myself from laughing since we were supposed to be whispering according to Adam.

Adam whispered again, “They will be here very soon. We shouldn't have come to this eerie place this early. It’s all her fault.”

My Beta blamed Rose. truly, we shouldn't be here now. We were supposed to meet the spies here in the next twenty-five minutes but we couldn't let the opportunity to avoid Rose’s eyes slip.

“She wouldn't have been like that if you didn't tell her I was seeing another woman, Adam. You put a cute stalker on my back.”

I whispered back to my Beta. we could be using the mind link but whispering like this was more fun and I loved how my hushed voice echoed in the forest.

“I can see you are enjoying her attention, My King.” Adam said under his breath just as I heard a subtle sound from behind us.

I called Adam’s attention to the sound and opened the mind link between us, “Did you hear that sound?”

Adam rolled his eyes, “I didn't know you were a timid Alpha King.” Adam laughed but when I glared at him, he added, “I can’t perceive anyone so it must be a rat or some other animal.”

I signed, “For a moment, I thought she has found us.”

“Impossible. Rose wouldn't be able to find this place and who would want to come to this eerie place?” Adam retorted.

I couldn't believe he was shaking because of the stories he had heard about the lake. I mean, he chose the location for crying out loud. After standing by the lake for about fifteen minutes more, we heard strong footsteps from the other side of the lake.

“They are here.” Adam announced but I looked back instead of keeping my eyes on the path that the spies would take to us.

I couldn't shake off the feeling in my gut. I could have sworn someone was staring at me but when I inhaled to check if someone else was there, I perceived no one but animals and the lake.

“Greetings, Alpha King Of The Northern Territory. Good to finally see you, Beta Of The Northern Territory.”

A deep unusual voice boomed as the five figures strolled towards Adam and me. I stood straight with my chin held high. This was one of the times I had to put my guard up and eradicate any form of emotion within me.

This was a serious moment.

Adam responded to the voice, “Welcome–” Adam didn't seem to know how to address the spies as they walked into the light showing us their masked faces.

I snorted. Why would they keep their face hidden when they are meant to work for me? How will they gain my trust if I can’t look them in the eyes?

“You can give us code names, Beta Adam. We are nameless and would like to remain like that.”

The same one that spoke upon their arrival voiced out again, making me assume the rest of them were mute.

I countered him, “You want to work with me but I can’t see your face nor can I know your names or anything significant about you all. That's absurd.”

My voice was harsh and my eyes were probably void of emotions.

Before the speaker could respond, I etched, “And do the rest speak or do I have to give them voices too? Does this look like a joke to you all?”

There was no way to differentiate the five guys. They were of the same height. They had the same body frame. They had no perceivable scent. They were dressed in the same dark robes and equally black masks that made them appear terrifying.

But if I knew anything about masks, I would understand that they hid the weakness and emotions of untrained people.

Adam stuttered in my mind, “My K-king, the-these g-guys were born with a mutation that makes them skilled as spies. Th-ey are different from us despite being born by a werewolf. They are also quintuplets, My King.”

“If you weren't too busy arguing with Rose, you would have known to tell me about these details!” I snapped at Adam and glared at him despite the company we had.

Adam knew to recognize my mood and roll with it, “Forgive me, My King.”

Before I could reply, one of the other four that hadn't been speaking finally spoke and he has the same voice as his brother who had been speaking.

Was I even surprised?

They must have programmed them.

Max chipped in, “Or they are robots.”

“We do speak, Alpha King Josh. We had to scan the surroundings to determine the safety of the location.” Those were the words of the second one.

And another one of them announced, “And this place doesn't seem to be safe enough for us to show our face or discuss the purpose of this meeting.”

“What do you mean by this place isn't safe?”

Adam queried with a frown.

The fourth one answered, “We are being watched and listened to.”

Adam and I shared a look as she said to me through the mind link, “It has to be the spies your brother sent to the pack. We should catch them and eliminate them.”

“Let’s do that.” I agreed with my Beta.

And I faced the five spies, “Your first assignment is to catch them all.”

“It’s just one but your words are our commands.” The fifth one declared and the five of them swung into action, moving towards the same spot like they were telepathically connected.

“There you are.” One of the spies snarled as they all rounded a nearby tree.

Max chimed, “Is the spy within the tree? Are they okay?”

My wolf beast and I questioned the normalcy of the spies Adam had hired but that changed when an ear-piercing scream reverberated through the forest.

There was really a spy?

“That’s no spy.”

Max argued firmly as the so-called spy was pulled out from her hiding place. Turned out it was my jealous stalker. How on earth did she follow me here?

“Rose?” Adam called out.

I gritted ferociously when I saw her kneeling before the spies with their weapons pointed at her, “Why the f*ck are you here!”

But rather than answer my question, Rose simply seethed at my Beta… I couldn't believe her.

Rose might just be the end of me before my brothers get to me.
