Chapter 82 A spy for a spy
THIRD PERSON'S POV.
“So? Anything interesting?” The man, smoking a cigar, asked his subordinate who entered the room.
The subordinate looked at the beta, unsure whether to answer the question since their alpha wasn't facing them, but when the secretary nodded, the subordinate cleared his throat.
“Sir, the information is legit. This man that Miss Angelica always feared, Jarvin Morocco, has joined hands with the rogues of Amoled City. They are planning something big against her and the Martino brothers,” the subordinate said.
The Alpha didn't turn to look at his subordinate even when he stopped speaking. He just kept looking out the window with a complicated expression.
“You may leave. We will contact you if we need more information. Till then, check the security,” Matthew ordered on behalf of his Alpha.
It was only after the subordinate left that the alpha turned to look at his beta.
“Sir, what's going on in your head?” Matthew asked.
“Redemption,” Tyler said, walking to the desk as he looked at all the documents scattered on the table, taking a deep whiff from his cigar that contained herbs meant for werewolves.
It was numbing and stimulating at the same time. The more he looked at Angelica’s photo on the desk, the more he remembered the happy days they spent together, which all went down because she wasn't his mate, and he couldn't tell her anything about him being a werewolf.
Matthew pressed his lips into a thin line. He knew his alpha was in love with Angelica. They all saw it when they were attending university to maintain the facade to blend in with humans perfectly.
But he also had a pack to lead and protect. Till when would he keep obsessing over the woman who was clearly the Martino brothers’ mate?
He would have to choose a mate for himself eventually to produce the next alpha and heir for the pack.
“So what are you going to do next?” Matthew asked.
Tyler sighed.
“I know you are worried about the pack. I am too. It's my pack, something my ancestors built from scratch and maintained for centuries. Take this as mentioned, repenting for my sins of hurting Angelica.” Tyler shuffled through the documents before grabbing one.
“She was like an angel in my life. I risked my men’s lives for this information because I heard their sister was back and that they had been focusing only on her. Which obviously means they don't have any focus on what's going on around them. I will warn them about this, and after this, they are on their own,” Tyler said.
Matthew raised his brows.
It was a bit hard for him to believe his boss was really going to let go of his obsession with Angelica, but it was good news nonetheless, and he immediately lit up at the news.
“When are we leaving to meet them, sir?” Matthew asked enthusiastically, since it would be the last time.
“Now,” Tyler said.
He had asked his men to gather information about Angelica and found out she was in a hotel on the outskirts of Harold Fields.
It was strange because he thought the Martino brothers wouldn't let her live alone, especially when she bore their mark on her neck.
But maybe she was on vacation.
After a journey of five hours, Tyler and his people finally reached the Harold Fields, and he breathed loudly before looking around.
“Is there a problem, sir?” Kael asked Tyler when he saw him stopping and looking straight at the forests.
Tyler paused. He didn't know why, but for some reason, he felt like the energy in this place was a little weird.
The others might not have been able to feel it, but as the alpha, he could sense something bad in the air.
Not particularly bad, but a weird omen that he couldn't pinpoint.
“You guys go inside and check in. I want to look at the forests. My wolf is getting anxious. He probably wants to be left alone,” Tyler said to his men.
“In that case, I'll check in and see which room Miss Angelica is staying in and keep everything ready for your meeting with her,” Matthew said, wanting this to be over as soon as possible.
“Okay. You do that,” Tyler said before he moved his hand through his hair and walked towards the forest, letting his Alpha senses guide him.
Inside the forest in the middle of a clear ground, Angelica stood with her eyes blindfolded by none other than Alchemist, who stood 10 m away from her with twenty maple leaves in his hand.
He tilted his head.
“Okay, you are ready for the next lesson now. I am going to throw some leaves at you, and with your sword, you'll slice them and prevent them from hitting you. Can you do that?” Alchemist asked.
Angelica thought about it for some time. Generally, if she hadn't been training with Alchemist for so long, she would've laughed in his face because of how impossible it sounded.
How would he be able to throw those leaves at her from that distance, and how was she supposed to slice them with the large sword in her hand?
However, one thing she learned from Alchemist’s training sessions was that nothing was impossible in this world as long as you put your mind to it.
If you have the ability, you can ace anything.
And since she had the witch powers inside her, she could ace them too.
“I'll try my best,” Angelica said.
Alchemist shook his head at her, even though she couldn't see him.
“That's where you are wrong. You don't have to try it. You have to do it because your life is at stake here. These are not normal leaves. They cut sharper than blades, and one lethal cut can end your life just like that,” Alchemist warned her.
Angelica burst out laughing at his words.
“Come on, Alch. You and I both know you won't kill me,” she said with a smile.
It was Alchemist's turn to laugh now.
“For a girl who is blindfolded and at my mercy for finding out who she is, you are quite confident. You only know the truth I feed you. What if I kill you so the kingdom can be mine?” Alchemist asked.
Angelica removed her blindfold in that sentence.
“You won’t do that. If you were behind my kingdom, you wouldn't be here training me.”
“Or maybe I just want a fair fight before claiming what I have my eyes on?” Alchemist countered.
Angelica’s eyes began to change color slightly.
“What did you say?” She asked.
Alchemist smirked, and then, without a warning, he threw three leaves at Angelica.
Unprepared for the sudden attack, Angelica swung her sword at the last second, barely saving herself from the two leaves. The third one sliced her hand, and she stumbled back at the impact.
She looked at the blood dripping down from her hand but not falling on the ground and looked up at Alchemist.
“What? That's liquid gold flowing from your veins. Do you know how many supernaturals would kill to have that single drop in their veins? You don't know the extent of your existence, and I have every intention of teaching you,” Alchemist said.
“While I might not be your enemy, don't forget that there are many lurking nearby. So rather than laughing at what is possible or not, fucking concentrate on getting better. You don't want to be discarded from your coven just like those alphas discarded you for their sister, right?” Alchemist asked.
It was as if he hit some kind of sensitive nerve in her. As soon as he said those words, the bangles around Angelica's wrist turned pitch black from pure fury, and her fingers on the sword started trembling.
“What? Angry? Why not put that anger to use?” Alchemist asked.
“Shoot!” Angelica shouted in anger.
Alchemist nodded and released all the leaves in the air that turned to her like arrows ready to pierce her bones.
He then clicked his fingers, and a blindfold appeared on her eyes.
“Go! Use your powers to give you a sight beyond what your eyes can see!” Alchemist said.
Angelica closed her eyes amidst her anger and concentrated hard. It wasn't long before she could see where the leaves were exactly positioned, like a negative reel from a camera, even with her eyes closed.
“I… I can see,” Shock consumed anger.
Alchemist smiled at the girl. He knew James' daughter couldn't be so useless as not to figure it out.
“Now fight,” Alchemist said.
Angelica got into the fighting position before she took a deep breath and started countering all those leaves one by one.
Her limbs felt as if they were moving on their own, and she didn't even realize her body was rising into the air, a swirl of leaves moving around her as the creatures of the forest stopped to look at the beautiful scene before them.
At the same time, Tyler, who was looking for her, paused when he saw the girl he believed was human rise into the air with a swirl of leaves, her eyes blindfolded as she moved the sword as if she were some ancient fighter.
To say he was surprised would be an understatement.
“Angelica?” He whispered, barely audible, but Angelica immediately caught it, and her concentration broke, resulting in her falling on the ground with a thud.
Alchemist immediately disappeared into the shadows, and Angelica removed her blindfold, annoyed.
However, as soon as her gaze met Tyler, she froze.
“What are you doing here?” She asked.
“You tell me. What's going on, Angel?” Tyler asked, flabbergasted, his heart skipping a beat for a reason entirely different.
