Chapter 69 Alchemist
ANGELICA’S POV
It was raining.
Drops of water rolled down the windowsill, dissolving on the ground, the soft noise resonating with the bit of chaos in my head.
I don't know what this feeling exactly was. It was hard to pinpoint what my mind and heart were exactly feeling, and for the first time in a long time, it wasn't related to the twin alphas.
It was related to me.
I placed my hand on the window, gazing at my reflection on the glass. The girl who looked back was no longer the same girl she had been the night before.
Something felt changed inside me; was it because of the marks on my neck or… I looked at my hand.
The image of that floating man still haunted my mind and those words…
Führerin. I tested the word, raising my brow at how easily it rolled off my tongue.
The language almost felt natural.
According to Dylan and Ericsson, this language was used by a cult of mages, probably the cult my father was the leader of.
I walked to my toy laptop and started surfing the net to see if I could find anything.
Wait. There was no way I would find anything relatable in a human's database.
With a sigh, I picked up my phone and called Tiara.
“Hello, Luna,” the girl's chirpy voice came from the other side.
“Hey, I wanted to know if I could get access to the supernatural database. I wanted to know more about the species and—" I didn't know how to continue, not because I was stuck on what to say but because my gaze met with the same man who had appeared at my balcony the night before.
I ended the call and looked at him, my hand reaching out for the dagger I always kept in my back pocket.
The man's gaze followed my movements like a hawk. He was too observant and too confident, which put me in even greater danger.
His gaze shifted from my hand that was holding the dagger to my eyes, and a slight smirk appeared on his face.
He was beautiful. Not in the way I would want him for myself, but in the way that would mesmerize you. Something about him screamed mystery and magic.
“You shan't be afraid of me, Führerin,” he said.
I raised my brows. What was with his accent and his voice… Why did it feel so familiar?
Where have I heard it before?
I furrowed my brows.
Sorry, Führerin, I am late. The words echoed in my head, and my pupils dilated.
“Y-you, you are the same person who saved me that night,” I said.
The man smiled, the smile reaching his green eyes that squinted into a crescent moon shape.
I didn't know how old he was, but he definitely looked the age of my father. His blonde hair and pale complexion, along with his green eyes, gave him a somewhat older appearance.
“It's my duty to protect you, Führerin, just like it's your duty to protect us,” he said.
My duty to protect them? Them? I can’t even save my ass, for heaven’s sake. I forced a smile, biting back the words that were at the edge of my tongue.
I kept looking at him for some time before glancing at my hand, which wasn't aching like it had earlier.
For once, I didn't want to run from anything because I was afraid. For once, I wanted to face everything head-on and prove myself worthy of being the Luna for the twin alphas, establish myself as the daughter of Alpha Ronaldo and Luna Marlyn, and prove myself to be the daughter of a great mage, James, no matter how much the possibility of the future scared me.
“The responsibilities you talk about—what are they? I don't know anything about the culture. It would be practically impossible for me to accept anything I am not aware of,” I said.
The man nodded his head. Maybe to him, I made a reasonable point, but to me, I was trying to buy more time, afraid he would take me away if I didn't.
A man who could kill so many rogues without even showing himself, with a mere metal string that sliced people off like vegetables, wasn't someone I wanted to have a truffle with. It was best to act cleverly.
“You don't need to be cautious of me, Führerin. I am here, your father's accomplice, his worshipper, to fulfill his wish, that when his daughter's coming of age happens, I shall be there to guide her, protect her, because for all I know, the lady is clueless to our world,” the man said.
His words made me raise my brows. Was it my father's wish?
My mind went back to what my mother told me about how my father arranged for a human lookalike of himself to accompany me in my early years so I wouldn't have to grow up thinking no one was by my side.
This definitely sounded like something my father would arrange for me.
I looked at the man who was waiting for my orders, and I shrugged.
“I don't know,” I said.
The man smiled, a genuine smile, before he floated towards me, and I clenched my hands on my dress to not appear so scared, which I really was, when he stopped right before me.
“It's okay, Fuhrerin. We are in no rush. For now, let's start with why your hand is aching, shall we?” He asked and extended his hand.
I looked at his pale hand that held a jade bangle.
I extended my hand, which had been aching and making me feel uncomfortable for the past couple of days, and he helped me put on those jade bangles.
The jade bangle that dangled around my wrist glowed a vibrant blue, and I looked at the man in surprise.
The glow of that light was visible in his green eyes, making them even more mesmerizing and enchanting.
“You'll have them too,” he suddenly said, snapping me out of my thoughts.
“Hmm?” I asked.
“Different eye colors, based on your emotions. That's why you have always been attracted to eyes. Our eyes are a reflection of our emotions and the chaos in our minds, and as a mage, you have always tried to read them,” he explained.
His words surprised me. I didn't know there was ever a reason behind such small actions.
There was just so much to learn. And it scared me.
Would I be even half as good as my father? Would I become a good mage, like the leader’s daughter they expect me to be?
My father told me to be patient and accept everything because that was my legacy, but…
“Doubt kills talent,” the man said, as if reading my mind, and I gave him an awkward smile.
“What's your name again?” I asked.
The man let go of my hand once the bangle changed its color from green to white and looked back at me.
“You can call me Alchemist,” he said.
I nodded at him and was about to ask him what this jade bangle on my hand was supposed to do when I heard the sound of the front door opening, making me turn around.
“I think you should—” I stopped mid-sentence when the man I wanted to meet my twin alpha mates was nowhere to be seen.
With a sigh, I walked to the window. This was definitely going to take some time before I got used to this.
“Mi vida,” His scent reached me before his voice, and my neck tingled just at the way he said the same endearing name he has been using for me ever since we met.
“What is it?” I asked Ericsson.
He nuzzled his face in the crook of my neck before sniffing my hair.
“The Luna ceremony—we are holding it tomorrow,” he said.
I pulled away from his hug, my gaze turning confused and unsettled.
“What are you talking about? We just received some awful news in our pack. People are mourning. How can you hold the Luna ceremony?” I asked.
Ericsson smiled and cupped my neck, pulling me close. I stumbled forward, placing my hand on his chest as he looked at me intensely.
“Life goes on, Mi Vida. What happened was tragic, but this is a ritual that can't be delayed. Our alpha wolves need to acknowledge the woman they marked, or they'll go rampant, and no one would like to see it. And… I loved the way you said our pack,” he smirked before dipping his head and capturing my lips in a passionate kiss.
It started softly, almost as if he wanted to pour his emotions into that kiss, but then his hands began to roam over my clothes, trying to move them as if they were the most significant hindrance between us.
I closed my eyes, starting to enjoy the feeling of his peppered kisses, and was about to ask him where Dylan was when he stopped abruptly.
“Now would you like to tell me who was the man in this room before I got here?” Ericsson quirked his brows, his gaze dark and unpredictable.
