Chapter 567 The One Who Poisoned Is Her?

Chapter 567 The One Who Poisoned Is Her?

Nancy noticed the twinkle in Edward's eyes and couldn't help but grin. "Alright, let's head back now. We'll make it just in time for the dinner party."

After hashing out their plans, they decided to split up. Edward headed to a nearby private club to change into his formal attire, while Nancy returned to the hotel to freshen up and rest. As soon as she walked into the hotel, Lisa approached her with a bright smile.

"Nancy, congrats! Who would've thought you were the long-lost daughter of the Forbes family? But, have you done a DNA test? You wouldn't want people thinking you're just trying to marry into the Smith family by claiming a connection."

Nancy stopped in her tracks, her smile fading. "Whether I'm the Forbes family's daughter or if I've done a DNA test is none of your business."

"I'm just trying to give you some friendly advice," Lisa said with an exaggerated sigh. "You should be fully prepared for everything, so you don't end up with nothing. Like today, you thought you'd marry into the Smith family and become the lady of the house. But where's Edward? He hasn't shown up yet. Cinderella stories aren't that easy, you know?"

Nancy felt no emotional stir. She looked up, her tone calm. "Ms. Evans, if you're so free, why not focus on your own affairs instead of meddling in others' lives?"

Seeing Nancy not react, Lisa became even more smug. "No wonder I never heard of you in Harmony City before. You must've been running wild out there."

Nancy looked Lisa up and down, then sneered. "The Evans family is quite reputable in Harmony City, yet they produced someone as uncouth as you? Are you so excited because you think if Edward doesn't marry me, you'll get the chance to be the lady of the Smith family?"

"You!" Lisa's face turned red with anger, her voice rising. "Even if it's not me, it won't be you! You'll be abandoned on your wedding day and become the laughingstock of Harmony City. I can't wait to see how you'll manage to stay here!"

"My affairs are none of your concern, Ms. Evans." Nancy didn't bother arguing further and walked past her straight to the lounge.

After changing into her white wedding dress, the makeup artist carefully touched up her makeup and adjusted her veil. The girl in the mirror looked radiant, her eyes sparkling with a gentle smile, still the stunning bride.

As she stepped out of the lounge, fireworks suddenly lit up the sky outside the hotel, their brilliance reflecting off the banquet hall's floor-to-ceiling windows.

The doors to the banquet hall swung open, and Edward, dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit, walked in with a gentle smile, heading straight for Nancy.

The guests who hadn't left yet erupted in excitement, whispering among themselves:

"Mr. Smith is here! He finally arrived!"

"I thought something had happened, but he made it just in time for the dinner."

"Good thing I didn't join Lisa in mocking Nancy earlier. Look at this scene; it doesn't look like she's been abandoned at all."

"Maybe Mr. Smith had an urgent matter. Look at how tenderly he gazes at Nancy."

Nancy lifted her dress and walked briskly towards Edward. Under everyone's watchful eyes, they embraced. Edward lowered his head, planting a soft kiss on her forehead, then gently bit her lower lip, his tenderness compensating for his earlier absence.

The applause and cheers around them drowned out any previous doubts, replaced by a sweet atmosphere.

Though it was a dinner party, Edward made sure to go through the missed wedding rituals: vows, exchanging rings, toasting friends and family—nothing was left out.

When the emcee invited the bride's family to speak, the hall fell silent, then erupted in astonishment as Frank, who hadn't appeared in public for a long time, stepped onto the stage.

"Oh my God, isn't that Frank, the former chairman of the Forbes family? He came in person!"

"I thought the Forbes family would only send George. I didn't expect the old chairman himself. Nancy's status in the Forbes family must be significant."

"So Nancy really is the long-lost daughter of the Forbes family. What luck! She not only married Edward but also has the Forbes family backing her. She's truly a winner in life!"

"I used to think she wasn't good enough for Mr. Smith, but now it seems Mr. Smith hit the jackpot!"

Lisa listened to the surrounding chatter, her teeth grinding in frustration. She stared at Nancy on stage, surrounded by the Forbes family, her face glowing with happiness, and jealousy grew like wild weeds in her heart.

On stage, Frank held the microphone, his voice tinged with emotion. "Today is my daughter Nancy and my son-in-law Edward's big day. On behalf of the Forbes family, I thank all the guests for coming. Nancy is the daughter we've searched for over twenty years. She has endured much hardship, but from now on, the Forbes family will do everything to cherish and protect her. I hope Edward will treat her well. If anyone dares to bully her, the Forbes family will be the first to object!"

Standing below, Nancy's eyes welled up. The once blurry image of her father in her mind now had a clear outline.

The surprises weren't over. When Zachary wheeled out a transparent display stand, the room fell silent. On the stand were keys to three luxury cars, deeds to ten downtown mansions, a 5% share transfer certificate of the Forbes Group, and a check for one billion dollars!

"Oh my God! These wedding gifts are too generous! Three cars, ten houses, shares, and cash—the Forbes family is incredibly generous!"

"Those girls who admired Mr. Smith must be heartbroken now. Compared to Nancy, they fall short in both family background and looks."

"If I were Mr. Smith, I'd laugh in my sleep, marrying such a wonderful wife and having great in-laws!"

The girls who had once harbored feelings for Edward were now silent.

As the dinner party progressed, many wealthy ladies approached Nancy, showering her with compliments. "Ms. Taylor, you're so outstanding—not only beautiful but also kind. Mr. Smith is lucky to have you."

"Let's keep in touch. We should have afternoon tea together sometime."

"My daughter-in-law is about your age. Maybe you two could become friends."

Lisa also squeezed in, her face plastered with a fake smile, her tone ingratiating. "Nancy, congratulations! You and Mr. Smith are a perfect match. Wishing you a lifetime of happiness and many children! Don't mind my earlier comments; I didn't mean them."

Nancy coldly laughed at Lisa's quick change in attitude. "Lisa, you sure know how to talk. I remember you saying I was Cinderella, foolishly dreaming of finding a prince, and that I'd become Harmony City's joke. How come you've changed your tune so quickly?"

Lisa's face turned sour, her smile awkward. "Haha, it was all a misunderstanding, just a joke! Don't take it seriously."

Seeing her hypocritical face, Nancy felt more wary. From their first meeting, Lisa had shown inexplicable hostility towards her. Even knowing she was the Forbes family's daughter, Lisa still occasionally mocked her, and she seemed particularly fixated on the "lady of the Smith family" title.

Her behavior suggested two possibilities: either she liked Edward, or she coveted the position of the Smith family heir.

Edward's poisoning incident had yet to reveal the culprit. If Lisa had such ambition, could she be the one behind it? After all, if Edward were out of the picture, her husband might seize the opportunity to become the heir.

After the wedding, Nancy shared her thoughts with Edward.

Edward's brows furrowed slightly, pondering for a moment before speaking seriously. "You make a good point. I hadn't focused on Lisa during my investigation. I'll have someone look into it again."
