Chapter 566 Who Else Would Want Her Besides Me

When word got out that Nancy was leaving, the Forbes family quickly gathered around her. Mary grabbed Nancy's wrist, her voice filled with urgency, "Nancy, where are you going?"

Nancy saw the worry in her mother's eyes and gently patted her hand. "Mom, I'm heading to Brown Manor. Edward's gotta be there."

"I'll go with you!" Royce stepped forward immediately, grabbing his jacket from the back of a chair, his tone leaving no room for argument.

"We're coming too!" Chris and Edith quickly followed suit.

Nancy looked at the concerned faces around her and calmly said, "I'll take Chris and Edith with me. The three of us can handle it. Dad, Mom, everyone, please stay here. Don't worry, I'll bring Edward back."

Frank sighed heavily and pulled his car keys from his pocket, pressing them into Nancy's hand. "Take my car. When you get there, don't rush in. Find Edward first and contact us. George is already arranging backup."

"Right," George stepped forward, pulling a black card from his wallet and handing it to her. "There's money on this card. If you need to grease some palms or handle an emergency, don't hesitate. Keep your phone on and stay in touch. We'll be tracking your location."

Nancy gripped the car keys and the black card tightly, then turned and walked briskly out of the banquet hall with Chris and Edith.

As the car pulled out of the hotel parking lot, Nancy drove while speaking to Chris in the back seat. "Chris, see if you can hack into the Brown Manor's surveillance system."

Chris nodded and quickly began typing on his laptop.

A few minutes later, he looked up regretfully. "The power to the cameras has been cut. There's nothing to see."

After driving for over half an hour, they finally arrived at the Brown Manor. They searched the entire house but couldn't find Gavin or Edward.

Chris, pushing his wheelchair, scanned every corner of the villa carefully. Suddenly, his gaze fixed on an ornament in the corner.

It was a bronze knight figurine, with a helmet that was worn and showed the underlying metal, indicating it was frequently handled.

"Nancy," he called her over, "this figurine might be a switch. Try turning it."

Nancy walked over and gently grasped the knight's helmet, turning it to the left.

With a soft click, the wall behind the figurine slowly moved aside, revealing a dark entrance with a musty smell.

"Found it!" Edith immediately pulled out her phone and turned on the flashlight, illuminating the steps leading down.

Nancy took a deep breath and led the way down the steep stairs. At the bottom was a long corridor, with faint light at the end and the sound of men's voices.

Nancy slowed her pace, inching closer. The voices became clearer—it was Edward and Gavin!

"Tell me, what do you want?" Edward's voice was calm, showing no sign of panic, which eased Nancy's worry a bit.

Then came Gavin's near-maniacal laughter. "You're about to marry the woman you love, while the woman I love is locked in a mental hospital. It's not fair! I want something simple: release Aria and promise never to bother her again, and I'll let you go to your wedding. Otherwise, Nancy will be a laughingstock for life at the wedding!"

Nancy peeked through the door crack and saw Edward tied to a chair, his wrists chafed and bleeding from the ropes, while Gavin stood in front of him, playing with a fruit knife that glinted coldly in the light.

Edward narrowed his eyes, his gaze icy. "Releasing Aria is easy, but you know how obsessed she is with me. Do you think she'll be content to be with you once she's out?"

"That's none of your concern!" Gavin gripped the fruit knife tightly. "Aria only has me now! You and Nancy are married, and she's mentally unstable. Who else would want her?"

Edward chuckled softly. "I didn't realize you loved her that much. Fine, I'll agree to release her, but you gotta make sure she doesn't mess up my life."

Gavin laughed in satisfaction. "You don't need to say that. The last person who wants her to see you is me."

Gavin quickly pulled Edward's phone from his pocket, unlocked it, and dialed the mental hospital director, putting it on speaker and holding it to Edward's ear.

Edward spoke into the phone, "Hello, Dr. Palmer? This is Edward Smith. Release Aria immediately and let her leave the hospital. I'll handle the paperwork later."

The director hesitated before responding, "Alright, Mr. Smith, I'll arrange it now."

After hanging up, Gavin smiled contentedly.

He tossed the phone back to Edward. "I'll come back to release you once Aria is settled. Don't try anything funny. If anything happens to Aria, you and Nancy will pay!"

With that, he hurriedly grabbed his car keys from the table and headed out. As he passed through the corridor, Nancy and the others hid in the shadows of the stairwell, waiting until Gavin's figure disappeared through the front door before emerging.

"Edward!" Nancy rushed into the room, her eyes welling up as she saw the wounds on Edward's wrists. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?"

Edward's cold expression softened instantly upon seeing her. "I'm fine."

Edith quickly untied the ropes around Edward's wrists while Nancy checked for other injuries. Chris then took out a first aid kit to treat Edward's wounds.

Edward's gaze remained fixed on Nancy, holding her hand. "I'm okay, don't worry. Gavin went to get Aria. I need to contact someone to catch them."

Nancy helped Edward out of the basement, where several police officers stood with guns drawn, scanning the area cautiously.

Seeing them, the lead officer stepped forward. "Are you Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith? We responded to the call. Where is the suspect?"

Edward pointed towards the door. "Gavin Brown, who kidnapped me, just left. He went to the mental hospital on the outskirts. You can intercept him there."

The lead officer quickly organized his team to pursue Gavin. Afterward, he turned to Edward and Nancy. "Mr. Smith, Mrs. Smith, please come to the station to give a statement. We'll need your cooperation for the investigation."

Nancy looked at Edward, who nodded, and she agreed. "Alright, we'll go with you."

Half an hour later, news came from the police station that Gavin had been arrested at the mental hospital while picking up Aria.

Aria, due to her unstable mental state, was temporarily sent back to the hospital for treatment. Her responsibility would be determined based on her condition. Gavin, charged with kidnapping, was taken into custody and would face legal consequences.

After giving their statements, the Forbes family was already waiting at the station entrance.

Seeing Edward and Nancy come out, Frank stepped forward and patted Edward's shoulder. "Glad you're back, glad you're back."

Mary held Nancy's hand, looking her over. "Nancy, are you okay? Are you hurt?"

Nancy shook her head and smiled. "Mom, I'm fine. Edward's fine too, just some minor injuries."

Edward bowed deeply to the Forbes family. "Thank you all for today. I appreciate it."

"We're family, no need for thanks," George patted his shoulder. "Go home and rest. We'll talk about the wedding later."

On the way back, Edward held Nancy's hand tightly. "I'm sorry, I ruined the wedding."

Nancy shook her head, leaning on his shoulder. "As long as you're okay, that's all that matters. Besides, it's not your fault. No one expected Gavin to be like this."

Edward looked down at her. "How about we go back to the hotel and finish the wedding? I don't want to wait any longer."
