Chapter 55

RYLEIGH

I was angry. I was determined. My mate and pack won’t go down as those who just lost. We held on for so long and let them control us. We are at the top of the food chain and that is going to be remembered again. Alizac let out his growl and just like that everyone started attacking from all sides. Screams and whines could be heard all over, but I stood in front of Alizac protecting him as our king.

An arrow came darting through, but I caught it with my mouth and threw to the side. He shifted into his wolf, and we went dashing in. I had so much anger piled up inside that I was tearing through humans. I was being hit and shot at, but with the amount of adrenaline running through my body, it didn’t faze me.

This was going to be a long night. Everything was such a blur that I had gotten separated from Alizac and Jax. I went into an apartment complex fighting off all the men and not the women and kids. Making my way out I went to the church that once held Alizac and most people were hiding there so I decided to leave it alone. I was looking for the man I saw kill my mate. He was hiding really well. I’d be too after everything.

“Ryleigh, we need your help.” Jax mind-linked me. I sniffed out his scent and made my way over to that area but not before I had some obstacles. I felt an arrow go through my shoulder which caused me to shift. I don’t think they had time to lace it because I was able to take it out without any effects. I did what Alizac told me not to do but I had to. I was ambushed by many of the humans surrounding me.

“I can’t come, I am surrounded. I had to shift back.” I told Jax. I looked around remembering what I know. Take all my anger that I bottled up and unleash it like I am a Pokémon. Weird thought, but it will have to do.

I went charging and shifted back into my wolf ripping the throat from on while someone hit me on my back. I turned back and threw him off me while kicking others. I finally made a path to head over to where the men were and by my speed and those human legs, it’ll be a minute before they could catch up.

I passed many streets avoiding the fights all around and not focusing on the fact that there were dead wolves too. I have finally gotten there and looked at the area and they were barely hanging on with how outnumbered they were. I need to think of what I could do. I looked around for a way I could distract them but came up short. I thought about my kids, and I know we’d be dead if the humans were alive. I crouched down wiggling my but to get a better stance on the ground. Letting it all come forward I darted over to a group of the humans who had arrows and guns in their hand from up above.

I jumped up, knocking it out of their hands before I attacked them causing them to fall off the highway bridge. I let out a loud and angry growl which caught everyone's attention. Enough to distract the humans and give them a break. I jumped from the bridge landing on my feet and raced over to fight off the humans which wasn’t hard. They weren’t shit without their weapons. Slashing and tearing until guts fell all over the floor. They took a second to breathe while I did all the handy work. My brother came flying in and helped in the process. We were all tired and we knew we could win but just like humans, we got sore and breathless. I stood in front of Alizac and Jax breathing excessively. The humans on the other side stopped too. No one was fighting anymore.

“ENOUGH!” One of the men screamed out. I quickly shifted and walked closer.

“We don’t want this. We just want the head of the ones who attacked our people, and we will leave you alone,” I screamed.

The man was dirty and tired, and it looked like he was giving in.

“Okay. We will bring you them if you agree that none of my people die.” I put my guard down in a sigh of relief.

“Ryleigh, look out!”

I saw everything flash before my eyes. I looked down to see Jax as he collapsed with an arrow straight in his heart.

“JAX!” I fell to my knees. I went to touch the arrow, but it was laced in vervain.

“No! No!” I looked at Jax and was petrified.

“Kill them all!” Alizac had ordered. I scooped him in my arms, and I let the tears pour out. He wasn’t going to make it.

“Please, you can’t leave me too. Please don’t leave me!” I reached for the arrow not caring it was burning me and broke off the tip and slid the rest of him. I applied pressure to his heart, but I knew he was dying. He died for me.

“I told you I wanted all your baggage,” he managed to choke out. How could I have lost two mates in this process? Why is it that the world was so cruel to me? I bent down to kiss his soft lips which he returned. Not caring that people were fighting all around me. Until I felt his lips drop down from mine and his body lay limp in my lap.

“Please don’t leave me. Please. I promise I will be better to you and treat you like the perfect mate. Please come back, I love you, Jax.”
