Chapter 50
RYLEIGH
My eyes started to flutter open as the thoughts of last night made me never want to again. I looked over to see Jax sleeping in the chair next to me. It was a madhouse, and this is the only place I knew I could be safe. It’s like he sensed that I was awake because he darted over to me.
“Ry, are you okay?” I nodded and then the pain from my body took over.
“What happened last night?” He asked me. And then it hit me. Tears flooding out of my eyes.
“They’re dead, they are all dead.” I managed to croak out. I sobbed harder mourning the loss of my pack.
“Your mate?” He asked and I cried even harder. He sat on the bed pulling me into his arms.
“He died saving us,” I said, clinging to his now damp shirt. I looked around frantically.
“Where are my kids!?” I screamed. I tried to get up, but he held me to the bed.
“They are okay having breakfast right about now. I need you to tell me everything. Well, both Alizac and I when you’re up to it.” I nodded and this time he allowed me out of bed.
“Can you bring me some clothes? I need to tell you both right away because those fucking humans killed my entire pack, and something needs to be done.”
He nodded and exited the room quickly. I bent over the bed and cried more to myself. How didn’t we see what was going on? There were no signs of an attack like they’ve been planning it for years to the point we had no room to react. They got everyone and my heart filled with so much sorrow. About twenty minutes had passed and Jax came back in with a set of clothes that weren’t torn like I am sure mine was.
“Do you need any help?” He asked nervously. I wanted to say no, but I was hurt so bad that it wasn’t up for debate. With a simple nod he helps me change into some losing fitting clothes and what I assumed was his shirt. It will do.
He had taken me over to the palace so that we could meet with Alizac who was in his office waiting for us. When we got in there were two women with one being my mom and the other being Aliza with my kids. I limped over pulling my son in my arms who was scared. Before getting up and taking my daughter from my mom’s arms.
“Thank you for looking after them,” I told her.
She gave me a half-smile not knowing what would set me off, but I wasn’t that person anymore. Alizac looked at me and there wasn’t so much hate like he had last time like maybe he grew up.
“You look grown up now,” he said. His hand was on his chin just staring at me and down to my daughter who was sleeping in my arms.
“You had kids.” I tried not to roll my eyes, but it was so hard.
“Yeah, usually what happens after getting married. This is my daughter Alyssa who is only 9 months. And that is my son Dylan who is 4.” Dylan was just in the corner with a book in his hands which was upside down.
“May I?” He asked as he looked down at my daughter. It was weird but allowed him to take her from my arms and rock her for a bit.
“So, want to tell me what happened?” He said while staring at her. I choked back the tears before I explained.
“We were asleep and then there was a loud bang and screaming that woke us up. I went and gathered my kids when Anthony went down and looking out the window there were humans everywhere mixed in with rogues, attacking our pack. They were strong and we were outnumbered. They got into our house. I held my kids in my arms and they attacked us, but I didn’t move. He managed to get them off me and told me to run but they killed him quickly when I ran out the door...I ran but they kept coming. It was instant. Everyone was dead. They attacked the packs next to ours and I had no choice. That's why I came here, for the sake of my children. They were strong Alizac because I am sure they teamed up with the rogues to take over our kind.”
He walked over and placed Alyssa back in my arms.
“I guess he wasn’t so bad after all. I am glad you’re alive and your kids. We will get to the bottom of this, and you can stay here in the meantime.”
The door pushed open, and my brother and father came rushing in. My brother wrapped his arms around me.
“I am so glad you’re alive. It’s been so long.” He moved back realizing what was putting space between us.
“And who is this cutie?” he said while rubbing her hands.
“This is my daughter, Alyssa, and that’s my son, Dylan.”
He looked over to my son and I think he was more excited than I was. But nothing made it worse than my father seeing my mother. He never knew that she was alive and now he did. With tension already on the rise, it was about to get even worse. But we all had a common denominator and that was our human and rogue problem.
“I know we all have our personal lives, but we won’t have one unless we take back what’s ours. I lost my mate and my entire pack and there is nothing more I want to do than cry. But there is no time for that. So please save it to the end.”
They all nodded.
“You were made to be a Luna, Ryleigh, huh?” Alizac said to me.
