Chapter 695 Both Sides’ Parents Meet
Chapter 695 Both Sides’ Parents Meet
Wendy rolled her eyes inwardly but didn't call him out. Instead, she went along with it: "I know you take this seriously. You're making it sound like I don't care at all."
After saying this, she stood in front of her closet and pulled out a black dress. "Honey, how about I wear this dress today? It'll match you really well."
"Looks great, wear that one." Caspian confirmed, then changed into his suit.
In the dressing room, the two of them got ready—mainly Caspian though. Wendy changed into her dress, picked out a platinum necklace, and was done. Caspian spent over ten minutes just choosing a watch, then agonized over which shoes to wear, whether to wear a brooch, and whether to wear cufflinks. Finally, Wendy got so fed up and annoyed that he hurriedly made his choices and stopped fussing.
Standing in front of the mirror, they looked perfect together—the man tall and handsome, the woman petite and lovely. A truly well-matched couple.
Leaving the house, they got in the car and Marcus drove toward Wendy's parents' place.
"Honey, call your dad and ask how your mom's doing today," Caspian said anxiously.
Wendy said, "While you were taking forever earlier, I already called. She's doing okay—not super happy, but she won't make things awkward either. Don't worry, since my mom agreed to let us be together, she won't cause any more trouble."
"Yeah, I don't really care for myself, I just don't want our parents to feel uncomfortable."
"My mom knows how important today is. She won't."
Caspian nodded and quietly let out a breath. Wendy looked at him with amusement, finding him adorable like this. He always got so nervous before these kinds of occasions.
"Here." She handed him a tissue with a smile. "Wipe the sweat off your forehead."
Caspian took it and wiped carelessly a few times, then said to Marcus, "Turn up the AC more."
"Yes, Mr. Wade."
The car stopped at the entrance to the residential complex. The two got out, and Wendy took Caspian's arm as they walked in.
It was Saturday, so there were quite a few people around. They ran into Curtis right away.
From far away, Curtis shouted at them in his booming voice: "You two are dressed so formally today—is there some good news?"
When they got closer, Wendy said, "Curtis, it's been a while since I've seen you."
"What's the occasion today?" Curtis asked Caspian.
Caspian said proudly, "Curtis, come to Wendy's and my wedding next month."
"You're getting married? That's great news!" Curtis said happily. "I'll definitely be there."
They walked on a bit further and ran into Remy and some others—all Jessica's former colleagues who also knew Caspian.
"Hello, teachers," Wendy and Caspian greeted them.
The two teachers looked at them and said, "Wendy, your mom told us you've set a wedding date? That's wonderful. Caspian's finally getting what he wanted. We're rooting for you two."
"Thank you!"
After parting with the teachers, Wendy said with some surprise, "My mom actually told them about us? That's not easy."
"We're getting married—the neighbors would find out sooner or later anyway. Might as well tell them now," Caspian said. "Honey, see? The neighbors are really supportive of us. They all really hope we'll have a good outcome."
Wendy said, "My mom will invite all these old neighbors to the wedding."
Caspian and Wendy arrived home to find Patrick and Jessica sitting on the sofa waiting for them.
Patrick wore a suit, tall and upright, with presence that matched Caspian's. Jessica wore a purple dress that showed off her elegant figure and refined manner.
"Wow! Dad, you look so handsome. Mom, you look beautiful," Wendy said admiringly.
Jessica stood up and lightly touched her upswept hair, then said expressionlessly, "Let's go," and headed out the door first.
Wendy followed behind, stuck out her tongue at Caspian, and said, "Look at my mom being all cold."
They got in the car and drove toward the hills. Over an hour later, they arrived at the Wade Manor.
Kaia and James were also formally dressed, sitting in the front courtyard waiting. Seeing people get out of the car, they quickly stood up to greet them.
Caspian made introductions: "Dad, Mom, these are Wendy's parents."
"Mr. Lewis, Mrs. Lewis, this is my dad and my mom."
The four elders met for the first time, all smiling. They shook hands and exchanged greetings.
Kaia said with a smile, "Like mother, like daughter. Wendy is beautiful, and you're a great beauty too."
Jessica smiled shyly. "You're too kind."
Patrick said, "Caspian is a good kid, very well-mannered. You can tell he was raised well."
"Not at all," Kaia said. "Before he met Wendy, he was quite naughty. Since he's been with Wendy, he's improved so much. I really need to thank you for raising such a wonderful daughter who's been such a good influence on Caspian."
James said, "Let's not stand here chatting. Come inside."
The four elders talked as they headed in.
Wendy said, "Honey, see? The atmosphere is pretty good."
Caspian wiped the sweat from his forehead and said, "In the car just now, I saw your mom looking so serious—I was really worried. But just now when we met, the smile came to her face so naturally and smoothly. Clearly that serious expression was for my benefit."
"Who cares who it was for? As long as it wasn't for your parents, that's what matters. Come on, let's go in." Wendy pulled his hand and they went inside too.
Jessica sat on the sofa, chatting with Kaia while discreetly observing everything in the villa. From the decor to the furnishings, from the well-trained servants to Kaia and James's refined behavior and appropriate conversation—it really was beyond what ordinary families could compare to.
Honestly, because of her bias against Caspian, she'd assumed his parents would be just like that too—not much better than nouveau riche. But seeing them now, old money was old money—she was genuinely impressed. At the same time, she wondered how Caspian turned out the way he did—he seemed so far off compared to his parents.
After some pleasantries, they turned to discussing the wedding.
Kaia smiled and said, "We've set the wedding date for July 28th. Do you two have any concerns about that?"
Patrick said, "Wendy told me you consulted a fortune teller for an auspicious date. We're not particular about these things—that date works for us."
"Good," Kaia continued. "We've prepared a wedding gift for Wendy as a token of our appreciation."
Patrick and Jessica were both stunned, not having expected them to give so much.
Kaia said, "Please don't feel any pressure. I don't mean to show off. I just thought that after they have children, expenses will be even greater, and I don't want the child to go without. Whatever wedding gift you give is fine with us. This money is for them. We're all just thinking of them. Don't you agree?"
