Chapter 171 I needed to hear your voices
Chapter 171 I needed to hear your voices
3rd Person POV-
Emerald stood up and reached her hand out to Andrew; he took her hand in his and stood up. The two of them laughed. Andrew’s legs were tight from sitting cross legged under Emerald, he shook his legs out and pulled his pants up, he didn’t fasten his buttons.
“To the bathroom.” Andrew said.
Emerald nodded, bent down, picked her clothes up off the floor, and tossed them in the small linen basket by the bathroom door. Emerald and Andrew went into the bathroom, cleaned themselves up and came back out to the bedroom. Emerald threw on a silky, short nightgown and crawled onto the bed.
“I’m going to stay in here. I don’t feel like being around Spinel right now.”
“I understand, Kitten. No worries. I’ll come and check on you after a while.”
“Thank you, Andrew.”
Emerald laid down on the bed and turned onto her side, as Andrew walked out of the bedroom. Once she heard the door close, Emerald grabbed her phone from the nightstand and called Declan.
Declan answered before the second ring, “Hey Sunshine, everything ok?”
“I guess so, I miss you.”
“I miss you, too.”
“Are you busy?”
“No, Sunshine. I’m never busy when it comes to you.”
“Is Dante with you?”
“Yes. He’s sitting next to me, we’re going over some reports from our trackers and scouts regarding the Alpha Germo stuff.”
“Oh.”
“Sunshine are you sure everything is alright?”
“I don’t want to talk about it. I needed to hear your voice. I’m tired, being back here has been a lot. Since the two of you are busy you don’t have to talk to me, just put the phone on speaker so I can hear you and Dante talking while I try to fall asleep.”
Emerald couldn’t see it, but both Declan and Dante had huge smiles on their faces.
“Whatever you need, Sunshine.” Declan slid the speaker button on his phone into the ON position and placed the phone on the desk. Him and Dante went back to reading and discussing the information that had been reported to them. Emerald put her phone on speaker, laid it next to her on her pillow, and fell asleep listening to the voices of two of her Lycan mates.
In the Living Room of the weekend rental
Andrew walked down the hallway and right into the living room, he sat down on the couch, his eyes pinning Spinel where he stood.
“Are you mental, Spinel? How on the Goddess’s green earth did you misinterpret what that girl told you so badly?”
Spinel scoffed, “Worked out pretty well for you, didn’t it? Playing Mr. Nice Guy Mate, Mr. Mate-to-the-Rescue, whatever you want to call it, it got your dick wet.”
“WOW! I thought Kane was an asshole; man, you take the cake. Kane needs to step his asshole-ness game up to compete with you. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you’re jealous.”
“Guys! Come on. Stop. Andrew, is she ok?”
“She’ll get over it, Jet. Right now, she’s lying down in bed with her phone on speaker listening to Declan and Dante go over some shit from Alpha Germo regarding the Omegas. I heard her tell the two of them she needed to hear their voices so she could fall asleep.”
“Damn.”
“She doesn’t want dinner?”
“No, Spinel. She doesn’t want dinner. She doesn’t want to leave that room and have to look at you. When I went in there, she was sitting on the floor, knees to her chest, crying. Help me understand, Spinel.”
“Did she tell you about the conversation at the motel?”
“Yea, she did. Did Spinel tell you about it, Jet?”
“Yea, he did. I had the same reaction you did, which is very much the opposite reaction of what Spinel had.”
“You two do understand that she snapped that pic, kept it, and used it to help her body and mind calm the mate bond between you three. Humans don’t have a significant pull to us, like we do them. The fact that she had to look and hold a picture of you two, so she wouldn’t run to you, tells me she’s known for a long time that there was something between all of you. She was trying to respect whatever it was she thought your relationship was.”
“But she ran away and used that same picture to stop herself from coming back to us, back to me!” Spinel hissed. “When she ran, she knew she was our mate, she wore our marks.”
“I know, Spinel. I was there when she ran. I was present when she gave her little “reject me” speech. I saw her get shot, I ran her to the hospital. She’s made it very clear that she regrets running. She didn’t put up a fight when we came here to get her and bring her home.”
“She left! She was gone for four months! I spent four months feeling like a zombie, drinking from blood bags, worried if I was going to lose the two best things that ever happened to me. I watched one of mates drown himself in a bottle, leave our shared home and forget that he was the CEO of a major corporation. I sat at my desk and tried to focus on work, but all I could focus on was the pain in my chest, making sure it stayed a low, dull, ache because if it got stronger than that, that would mean she was permanently GONE! And her…she went through her life day after day, looking at a snapshot and convincing herself she needed to stay gone, that we didn’t need her! That I didn't need her! That little, tiny human woman broke me, Andrew! She fucking broke me! I thought I forgave her, but coming back here and seeing all these people gush over her, miss her, bending over backwards for her, opened a deep wound, a deep fucking wound here, right here!” Spinel used a closed fist and banged it on his chest. “It reminded me that while Jet and I were hanging on to our sanity, she was living her best life, in this po-dunk town of Nebraska City, NE.”
Jet jumped to his feet and embraced Spinel, as soon as Jet pulled Spinel into him, Spinel started sobbing. Andrew didn’t know what to do, that was real, raw, and emotional.
“I don’t want to be mad at her anymore. I want to let it go, I want to forgive her, completely forgive her. But she hurt me to my core, she left me, she didn’t love me enough to come back.” Spinel sobbed into Jet’s chest.
“Spinel, baby…I… just let it out, let it go. You have a right to feel the way you do, hell I’ve felt the way you do, but Emey and I talked about it. I don’t know what to say. I feel like anything I say is going to sound like some kind of excuse for what she did.”
“It would.” Emerald whispered from the hallway, tears streaming down her face.
