Chapter 189 Forty-Six
Chapter 189 Forty-Six
The two new cases had names by Saturday morning.
Diallo had the preliminary files from the counterpart contacts by Friday evening and had forwarded them to Zara at seven with a covering note that said these are the forty-fifth and forty-sixth and they are both in the preparation phase and both need to be reached before the adapted template completes its work.
She read the files at the kitchen table on Saturday morning with Damien across from her and the specific quality of a weekend morning that understood it was not going to be an ordinary weekend morning and had made its peace with that.
The forty-fifth family was the Aboah family.
A civil engineering consultancy operating in the second international territory. Not the same territory as the Amara family and the Yeboah family and the Mensah-Asantes and James Darko. A different city within the same territory, three hours from the city where Grace Amara worked and lived and where the second territory framework was being built.
The company had been operating for sixteen years. The founder was a man named George Aboah who was fifty-nine years old and who had built the consultancy from a two-person practice into a firm with twenty-eight employees and a project portfolio that included three significant infrastructure contracts with regional government clients.
The supplier replacement had begun five months ago. Two changes completed. A third in process.
The forty-sixth family was the Mensah-Diallo family.
No relation to Dr. Amara Diallo though the surname connection had produced the specific quality of resonance that the investigation had taught her to receive without over-interpreting. A food technology company in the first international territory where Dr. Al-Rashid was working and where three completed acquisitions had already been identified.
The company had been operating for eleven years. The founders were a husband and wife named Joseph and Adwoa Mensah-Diallo who had built the company together from the beginning with the specific complementary dynamic of two people whose combined capabilities were stronger than either alone.
The supplier replacement had begun six months ago. Three changes completed.
She read both files twice.
Then she called Grace.
Grace answered on the second ring.
Zara told her about the Aboah family. The location. The sixteen years. The twenty-eight employees. The supplier replacement five months in. The proximity to Grace's city which was close enough that the contact could be made by Grace and Priscilla rather than requiring Samuel or Zara to travel.
Grace was quiet for a moment.
"Five months in and three changes," she said. "The preparation is not as advanced as the Quartey case."
"No," Zara said. "Which means there is more time. But the adapted template was used from the beginning which means the standard tracing tools will not see everything. Dr. Diallo's counterpart contacts are already working through the corporate structure."
"I will call them today," Grace said. "George Aboah. I will call him today."
"Tell him about the dress," Zara said.
A pause.
"Yes," Grace said. "I always tell them about the dress."
She ended the call and called Dr. Al-Rashid.
Al-Rashid answered immediately.
The Mensah-Diallo family. The location within the first territory. The eleven years. The six months of supplier replacement. The three changes. The adapted template.
Al-Rashid listened with the focused precision she brought to everything.
"The adapted template," she said. "In the first territory as well."
"Yes," Zara said. "Boateng is not limiting the adaptation to the second territory or to the domestic cases. He is applying it wherever he is active."
"Which means every active case needs to be reassessed against the adapted template," Al-Rashid said. "Not just the new ones. The cases already in progress. The Darko case. The Amara case. The Yeboah case."
"Yes," Zara said. "Patricia is building the assessment framework today. I will send it to you when it is ready."
"Good," Al-Rashid said. "And the Mensah-Diallo family. I will contact them personally. Joseph and Adwoa have been through six months of this and they deserve to hear the truth from someone who has been inside the investigation rather than from a formal notification."
She ended the call and looked at Damien across the kitchen table.
He had been reading his own documents while she made the calls with the specific ability he had developed across the months of being in proximity to the investigation of following his own work while remaining available for hers when the calls ended.
He looked up.
"Forty-six," he said.
"Forty-six," she said.
He looked at the files on the table.
"The adapted template in both territories," he said.
"Yes," she said. "Boateng is not limiting what he built to any specific geography. He built a tool that works across jurisdictions in the same way the original templates worked across jurisdictions. And he is deploying it wherever the network has active cases."
"Which means the investigation cannot focus on one territory at a time," Damien said. "The response needs to be simultaneous across all active territories."
"Yes," she said. "Dr. Diallo's coordination framework. The counterpart contacts in the two additional jurisdictions. Grace and Priscilla in the second territory. Al-Rashid in the first territory. Seline and Patricia in the domestic cases." She paused. "All of them working simultaneously against the same adapted template in different geographies."
"The framework is designed for exactly that," Damien said.
"Yes," she said. "I am going to find out today whether it is fast enough."
She picked up her phone.
She called Diallo.
Diallo answered on the first ring.
"The assessment framework for the adapted template," Zara said. "I need it applied to every active case in every territory simultaneously. Not sequentially. Simultaneously."
"Yes," Diallo said. "I have been anticipating this since last night. The counterpart contacts are already positioned. Give me the framework when Patricia has it ready and we move all at once."
She looked at the kitchen table.
At the forty-sixth file.
At everything still to be done.
She got up.
She went to work.
