Chapter 14 Fourteen
Seren felt heat rushing toward her core, her face turning several shades redder at Kael’s words. His breath on her neck only made it worse.
How could he be so blunt about such things and why was he actively changing the topic?
Vexed, Seren called him out, struggling to escape his embrace.
“Quit changing the topic! Can you expel the Burndels or not?!”
The moment the words left her lips, she realized she’d just revealed one of her trump cards.
Her eyes widened. She clamped a hand over her mouth.
Kael paused, his lips still close to her skin. When he looked at her, his expression was one of intrigue rather than anger.
“My little moon,” he murmured, his tone teasing yet sharp, “it seems you know something. What exactly do you know?”
Seren hesitated, then decided against her better judgment to trust him. Partly because he was her mate… and partly because he was the Alpha.
“You might not believe me,” she began carefully, “but Nova and the Priestess are blood-related. Mother and daughter.”
She was met with silence from Kael but his gaze deepened. His grip around her waist tightened but not enough to injure her.
When he finally spoke, his voice was unnervingly calm.
“What proof do you have?”
Shock filled Seren. Kael didn't sound suprised nor refute her claims but asked for proof.
Well, Newsflash,She didn't have no proof, wolfman.
She can't just tell him that Selune appeared in her dreams when, given her records, she didn't have a shred for Divine Magic that would make The being who grants it to pay her a visit in her dreams.
She didn't know if it was thing for Selune to causally visit wolves but she sure wouldn't casually talk about it and possibly put the spotlight on herself.
She avoided his gaze. “I don’t have any right now… nor the means to get it.”
Kael chuckled softly and patted her hair.
“I wonder how you found out, then. Did you spy on them?”
Seren bristled instantly. “Who’s a spy?! Your whole family’s a spy!”
Kael laughed again, low and amused. “You’re my mate, which means you are family.”
Seren gritted her teeth. “We’ll only be family if we get married legally and don’t concern yourself with how I found out about Nova and the Priestess. Just focus on the part where I’m right.”
Kael grinned, wicked and boyish all at once. “So you’re suggesting we get married.”
Seren groaned, glaring at him. “Does your brain filter what it wants to hear?”
Deciding he’d teased her enough for now, Kael’s tone shifted. “I already know they’re related. What I don’t know is why they’re here.”
Seren blinked. “You know?”
He nodded slowly. “But I’m waiting for confirmation. My most trusted wolves are monitoring them. I suspect something deeper.”
“What have you found out so far?” she asked, curiosity cutting through her irritation.
Kael’s lips thinned. “The Priestess has been in contact with a rival pack.”
Seren rolled her eyes internally. ‘Of course there will be rival packs. I didn't get to complete the book to know what pack it is.’
“Maybe they are people from the rival pack sent to infiltrate our pack since she's having contacts with them.", Seren reasoned.
Kael looked at her with newfound light, “Well would you look at that? I didn't think of that.”
Seren's novel plot brain was reeling with ideas, "Then if she really was sent to infiltrate Crescent pack, it'll make more sense for her child to be the Luna!”
She almost leaped out of Kael's lap, "That way the infiltration with be at the very heart of the pack!"
Kael’s expression darkened thoughtfully. “You make a very good point, little moon. What reward should I give you for such insight?”
Seren froze. “Re… reward?”
“Yes. Say the word,” Kael replied smoothly.
“Elevate my family’s status!” she blurted—then instantly regretted it.
He chuckled. “I already plan to. So you’ll have to choose something else.”
Seren narrowed her eyes. “Can I have time to think about it?”
“No. The offer expires in ten minutes.”
Her jaw dropped. “That’s unfair! I don’t even know what I want!”
Kael’s smile deepened. “Shall I help you come up with something?”
Alarm bells rang in Seren’s mind. Trap. But she was literally trapped in his arms. “...Fine. Help me.”
He leaned closer, his breath hot against her lips.
“You could ask for another kiss.”
Seren’s eyes widened. This man had zero shame. She had clearly underestimated his shamelessness.
And yet, her body betrayed her with how much it wanted that very thing.
She nodded, trying not to look too eager.
Kael’s smile turned feral. “Thought you’d never agree.”
Before she could second-guess herself, he cupped the back of her neck and crashed his lips against hers.
The kiss was nothing like the first. it was deeper and laced with an ache that made her toes curl. He ravaged her like a hungry man…well, wolf in this case. His tongue brushed hers, coaxing and demanding access which was granted.
Her knees trembled, her fingers clutching at his coat for balance. She felt his satisfied hum vibrate through her chest as he deepened the kiss further, his hand threading through her silver hair.
A helpless sound escaped her throat, and she melted against him.
Kael’s hands roamed to her waist, pulling her closer until she could feel every inch of his restrained strength.
Her fingers found their way into his hair, tugging lightly as the fire between them built. The air in the study thickened, hot and heavy.
Seren didn’t know when her rational mind gave up but by the time Kael’s hand slid up her side, she was lost in the haze.
His touch lingered, bold and deliberate. He caught her breathless gasp with another kiss, one that sent a shiver spiraling through her spine.
When his fingers brushed over the thin fabric covering her chest, she whimpered softly, the sound swallowed between them. Kael growled low in his throat, his control slipping for a heartbeat.
Every nerve in her body felt alive burning with the bond between them.
Kael's finger pinched her nipples making her mewl with pleasure and Kael felt his dick harden even further.
