Chapter 13 Thirteen
“I want to reject our mate bond, Kael!”
That was the first thing Seren blurted the moment she closed the door behind her.
Kael turned around slowly, his tall frame casting a shadow across the room. His lips curved into a calm, knowing smile.
“Good afternoon to you too, Seren.”
Seren blinked, caught off guard. Goddess, why does he have to smile like that? she thought bitterly, annoyed at herself for noticing how devastatingly handsome he looked.
“Well—thank you,” she said, recovering fast. “Now, how do I reject you? Do I just say it?”
Kael’s smile deepened, his eyes gleaming like dark amber in the light. He began walking toward her with the slow, dangerous ease of a predator.
“Seren, my dear, why the sudden change of heart?”
“Change of heart?!” Seren backed up as he advanced. “I didn’t have a choice to begin with! It was just dumped on me…this whole mate thing!”
Her back hit the door with a quiet thud. Kael stopped only a few inches away from her, his height forcing her to tilt her chin up just to meet his gaze.
Up close, she could see the faint scar tracing his jawline, the way his eyes seemed to see through her. His presence was overwhelming and magnetic.
He reached out, brushing his fingers lightly through a strand of her silver hair.
“Your hair color has changed,” he murmured, voice smooth as silk. “Did you change it for me?”
Seren’s breath hitched. Too close… way too close.
She yanked her hair from his grasp. “Who did what for you? Don’t try to change the subject!”
Kael chuckled softly, a low sound that reverberated through his chest.
“You’re blushing. Are you perhaps shy?”
Seren glared up at him. “Who is shy? Your whole family is shy!”
He laughed again, unbothered, his tone infuriatingly tender. “Being shy isn’t a bad thing, my sweet. You look adorable when you’re flustered.”
“Kael!” Seren snapped. “I want to reject the bond!”
The smile faded from his lips, replaced by something quieter—more dangerous.
“Rejecting a bond isn’t easy,” he said, his fingers grazing her cheek in a featherlight touch. “Especially when you’re mated to an Alpha.”
Seren frowned. “You seemed perfectly fine rejecting Nova last night.”
Kael tilted her chin up until she couldn’t look anywhere but into his eyes. His voice dropped to a whisper.
“Nova was never my mate, Seren. You are. Don’t you feel it, the pull between us?”
She hated that she did. The air between them felt electric, her heartbeat pounding against her ribs. It wasn’t affection but raw, consuming lust.
“Kael,” she said slowly, forcing her voice steady, “this is just lust. It won’t last forever.”
His lips twitched, amusement glinting in his gaze. “Who said lust doesn’t last forever? As long as you’re mine, I’ll make you love the fire between us. I’ll make it your second nature.”
Seren swallowed hard. The way he said mine did dangerous things to her pulse. Her mind screamed run, but her body seemed rooted to the spot. This self quest was just going sideways and the talkative system was suddenly silent. It was not this silent when she and Kael were in the woods last night.
And she did believe him. But he was a dangerous sexy hunk of a man or a wolf and she can't deal with the responsibility of being his woman in other words, Luna.
She had alot on her plate as it was. She needed to expel the Burndels and run away to the Academy and master her newly found gifts.
Kael seeing her stormy grey eyes whirling around and planning a come back smiled deviously, “It seems like you don't believe me. I'll make you believe me."
And before Seren could tell him that she did believe him, Kael grabbed the back of the neck and pulled her closer to him then his lips were on hers and she instinctively closed her eyes.
Kael's lips were softer than she remembered and she felt a part of her she didn't know existed growl within her.
That was her wolf. That bitch didn't make her presence known normally but chose to appear when Kael kissed her.
And honestly, she was enjoying the kiss. She felt her legs grow weak and threaten to give away beneath her, so she held onto Kael's coat.
It seemed to please him because he let out a satisfied hum and deepened the kiss. His hand weaved through her hair making her let out a moan.
Soon her hands were around his neck and one was weaving this his hair.
His lips were so soft. She felt like she was in heaven. She didn't want the kiss to stop.
Not long after she came to that conclusion, Kael pulled out leaving a trail of saliva between their lips. She opened her eyes and was immediately sucked in by Kael's lust filled ones.
Kael rested his forehead against hers for a while breathing softly, his voice filled with barely concealed lust, “You see the connection between us, don't you Seren?"
Seren nodded quietly. She really couldn't insist she doesn't because it was so obvious but she needed to gain something out of this literally forced relationship.
“I won't reject our mate bond", she started softly, also breathing softly, “On one condition."
He arched an eyebrow. “If it’s within my power, I’ll grant it. What do you want?”
Seren steadied herself, her expression hardening. “Expel the Priestess and Nova from the pack.”
Kael’s amusement faltered, surprise flashing briefly across his face before he masked it with a calm smile.
“Seren,” he said softly, “are you seriously talking about other women right after that kiss?”
Seren rolled her eyes. “Can you do it or not?”
Kael sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Come, Seren. Sit and tell me why you want them gone.”
Kael offered his hand, and she took it reluctantly. Kael smiled indulgently at her as she quietly followed him to behind his oak desk.
Kael sat down on the chair whilst still holding Seren and to Seren's surprise, he pulled her onto his lap and made her straddle him.
“What are you doing…you…you rogue!”, Seren protested.
His fucking hard on was poking her!
Kael brought her into his arms for a hug and took in her scent whilst nibbling her collarbone, “We are mates. Isn't this position
nice?"
"Nice my foot!”
“Can you feel what you did to my body? Does it turn you on too, hmm?"
