Chapter 66 New warriors
Aloria
The sun hangs high in the sky, casting a brilliant light over the training grounds. I find myself perched on a sturdy log, my eyes glued to River and Kellan as they spar, their movements fluid and powerful. The way they fight is almost mesmerizing… like a well-rehearsed dance of strength and skill. Each punch and kick is executed with precision, their bodies glistening with sweat, muscles rippling as they push themselves to their limits.
River’s confidence shines through every strike, while Kellan’s agility keeps him on his toes, dodging and weaving like a shadow. I can’t help but smile, my heart swelling with admiration. This is more than just training; it’s a testament to their commitment to our pack and to each other. I lean forward, captivated by the rhythm of their combat, the way they anticipate each other’s moves, their camaraderie evident even in the heat of battle.
“Look at that!” I hear a voice beside me, and I turn to see Arly and Arthenon hurrying toward me, wide-eyed and full of excitement. “Can you believe how fast they are?”
“They’re amazing,” I reply, my gaze flickering back to the two warriors. “It’s like watching poetry in motion.”
Arly’s face lights up with determination. “I want to learn how to fight like that! Can you teach us, Aloria?”
I chuckle softly, my heart filled with warmth for my brothers. “I think you’d have to ask River and Kellan instead. They’re the experts here.”
We watch as River lands a decisive blow on Kellan, who stumbles back but quickly regains his footing. Kellan smirks, clearly enjoying the challenge. I can see the boys’ eyes sparkle with admiration, and it fills me with pride. They may be young, but they are eager to learn, and I know that if anyone can teach them, it’s these two.
As if sensing our gaze, River looks over, wiping sweat from his brow. A grin spreads across his face when he sees the boys. “Hey there, future warriors. What do you think? Want to join us?”
Arly’s eyes widen, and he practically jumps with excitement. “Yes! Please… Can we learn from you?”
River exchanges a glance with Kellan, who nods, his expression thoughtful. “Alright, but we have to make sure it’s age-appropriate. We don’t want anyone getting hurt,” River says, looking directly at me. “Is that okay with you, Aloria?”
I take a moment to consider it, my protective instincts flaring. But I can see the determination in their eyes, the desire to become stronger and capable of defending themselves. “As long as you’re careful and it’s suitable for their ages, I don’t see a problem. It might be good for them to learn how to defend themselves.”
“Awesome!” Arthenon jumps up and down, his energy infectious. “What are we going to learn?”
River steps forward, cracking his knuckles. “First, let’s start with the basics. How to stand, how to throw a punch, and how to protect yourself.”
Kellan adds, “And remember, the goal isn’t to hurt your opponent but to outsmart them. Fighting is as much about your mind as it is about your body.”
They guide the boys into position, showing them how to stand firm, feet shoulder-width apart. I watch intently as River demonstrates a simple jab, teaching them the correct form. I can’t help but smile as I see Arly mimic River’s stance, his brow furrowed in concentration. Arthenon, on the other hand, is bouncing on his toes, eager and ready to spring into action.
“Now, Arly, you try,” River encourages, stepping back to give him space.
Arly throws a punch, and though it’s not perfect, the determination in his eyes makes me proud. Kellan steps in, showing him how to follow through, and I can see the boy’s confidence grow with each attempt.
“Great job! Now, let’s add a little footwork,” Kellan says, demonstrating how to sidestep and create distance. “Remember, it’s about being light on your feet.”
I can’t help but laugh as Arthenon tries to keep up, his movements a bit clumsy but filled with enthusiasm. “Like this?” he asks, grinning widely as he stumbles.
“Exactly!” River laughs, and it’s a sound that fills me with warmth. “You’ve got the spirit; just focus on your balance.”
They continue to practice, Kellan and River taking turns coaching the boys, ensuring they understand the fundamentals while also keeping it fun. I watch as River kneels down beside them, offering tips and encouragement, his patience unwavering. I can see how much he cares for them, how he wants to pass on his knowledge.
As the sun climbs higher, casting bright beams of light through the trees, I feel a sense of peace wash over me. This is home. This is family. Watching River teach my brothers, I can see a future where they’re not just fighting for survival but thriving, growing stronger together.
“Okay, let’s try some light sparring,” River announces, and I hold my breath, nervous yet excited for my brothers. “But remember, it’s all about technique, not brute force. You’re not trying to knock each other out.”
Arly and Arthenon exchange glances, thrill coursing through them as they step forward, ready to take on the challenge. I can barely contain my excitement as they engage in their first sparring match, River and Kellan guiding them, showing them how to react and defend.
I cheer them on, my heart racing with pride as they move in sync with each other. They stumble and laugh, their spirits high, and I can’t help but feel grateful for this moment. Each punch thrown and each laugh shared only strengthens our bond.
With every passing moment, I realize that this isn’t just training; it’s a way for us all to grow closer. As River watches them with that proud glint in his eyes, I know that he will be an amazing father one day.
