Chapter 59 Learning to control it

Chapter 59 Learning to control it
Aloria
The healer’s words hang in the air like a storm cloud, heavy and ominous. “Aloria, it’s not that simple,” she replies, her voice steady but firm. “You aren’t becoming a vampire in the traditional sense. The essence of the vampire poison you’ve have been i fetched with is fighting with your own spirit. It’s a battle of instincts, and while it can amplify your hunger, it doesn’t mean you’ll turn completely.”

“But what if I can’t fight it?” I press, panic rising in my chest like a tide threatening to swallow me whole. The thought of losing myself… of becoming something dark and predatory… fills me with dread. I think of the way I nearly attacked River, of the frantic hunger that had driven me to bite him. “What if I hurt someone again?”

River, who has been standing silently by my side, steps forward, his expression resolute. “You won’t,” he assures me, his eyes blazing with a fierce determination. “You’re stronger than this, Aloria. You’ve faced challenges before and come out on top. I believe in you.”

His words wash over me like a balm, but the uncertainty lingers. “How can I be sure? What if this darkness inside me grows?”

The healer interjects, her voice steady. “You must learn to embrace the duality of your nature. You are both wolf and vampire now, and while the vampire essence may crave blood, your wolf craves balance and harmony. They can coexist if you allow them to.”

“But how?” I ask, desperation creeping into my voice. “How do I embrace something that terrifies me?”

“By acknowledging it,” she replies, her gaze unwavering. “You must confront the darkness without letting it define you. The hunger is part of your new reality, but it does not have to control your actions. You can channel it, transform it into something powerful and beautiful.”

I take a deep breath, feeling the weight of her words settling in my chest. “And what if I can’t?”

The healer steps closer, her hand resting on my arm, grounding me. “Then you will learn. You will practice and grow stronger. You are not alone in this fight. River will be by your side, and I will help you.”

I glance at River, and the fierce loyalty in his eyes gives me strength. “We can do this together,” he says, his voice steady and unwavering. “I won’t let you face this alone.”

A flicker of hope ignites within me, and I nod, though uncertainty still gnaws at my insides. “Okay,” I whisper, trying to summon the courage I need. “I’ll try.”

“Good,” the healer says, her voice warm and encouraging. “Now, let’s focus on calming the hunger. I will guide you through some techniques to help you find balance.”

Over the next hour, she leads me through a series of breathing exercises and visualizations, urging me to connect with my wolf’s instincts while grounding myself in the present moment. I close my eyes, focusing on the rhythm of my breath, the pulse of life coursing through me.

“Imagine your wolf,” the healer instructs. “See her running free in a vast forest, wild and untamed. Feel her strength and the bond you share. Allow that connection to fill you.”

I visualize the wolf, her fur gleaming under the dappled sunlight, powerful and majestic. I can feel her spirit within me, a fierce protector, and the hunger that had once felt so overwhelming begins to fade into the background.

“Now, bring that strength into your core,” the healer says, her voice resonating like a heartbeat. “Let it anchor you. You are not just the hunger; you are the wolf, and you can control it.”

As I focus on that connection, the chaos within me begins to settle, like a storm giving way to calm. I feel more at peace, more in control, and the gnawing hunger transforms into a warm ember, manageable and no longer frightening.

“Good,” the healer praises, her eyes twinkling with approval. “You’re doing wonderfully. Remember, this is a journey, not a race. You will have setbacks, but that doesn’t mean you can’t succeed.”

I nod, feeling a renewed sense of determination. “I won’t give up. I’ll learn to control it.”

As the session comes to an end, I feel lighter, more empowered. The healer offers me a small vial filled with a shimmering liquid. “This will help ease the hunger for now. Use it sparingly, and remember to nurture your wolf. You’ll need her strength.”

I take the vial, feeling its weight in my palm. “Thank you,” I say, my voice filled with gratitude.

As the healer prepares to leave, she turns back to me one last time. “Remember, Aloria. Embrace your duality and trust in your strength. You are more than just the blood that courses through you.”

Once she departs, I turn to River, who has been watching me intently. “Did you see that? I actually felt stronger!”

A smile breaks across his face, and he pulls me into a tight embrace. “I knew you could do it. You’re incredible, Aloria.”

The warmth of his body against mine ignites something deep inside me… an instinctual pull that makes the hunger stir again, but this time, it feels different. It’s not a ravenous beast clawing at my insides; it’s a whisper, a gentle reminder of the balance I must find.

“I can’t promise I won’t struggle,” I admit, pulling back to meet his gaze. “But I will fight for control. I won’t let this darkness consume me.”

River nods, his expression serious yet supportive. “And I’ll be right here, every step of the way. We’ll figure this out together. You’re not alone in this.”

I take a deep breath, feeling the weight of his words sink in. The journey ahead won’t be easy, but with River by my side and the healer’s guidance, perhaps I can forge a new path… one where I embrace both the wolf and the vampire essence within me.

As I look out the window at the moonlit sky, I realize that the darkness may be a part of me, but it doesn’t define me.
