Jess’s POV
Justin grumbled a lot but then started watching how we did it and soon picked it up and managed to keep the same pace as us. As if to prove a point Romeo kept running around us with a big grin on his face. Mum and dad seemed to pick up the pace fine. They were laughing and joking with each other like this was a leisurely stroll on the beach.
“How come dad is not struggling with walking at this speed?”
“Mum has cast a smell on him. He is older than you. He does not need to train on how to walk this way. You on the other hand want to join the team. So, this is part of your training. The majority of this job involves walking on rough terrain. Now is the best chance we will ever get of training you”
“This job does not look so fun anymore”
“It’s not all about been a hero, Justin. Most of the work that we do goes unnoticed by the public”
“Yeah, I know that sis I am not totally stupid. I just didn’t realise that we had to walk fast. I mean I am pro walking instead of driving, but that does not mean that we must walk at warp speed” He walked away from me towards mum and dad.
“He is so going to get your mum to cast a spell on him too so that he does not have to deal with sore legs” Kieran was looking towards Justin with a disgusted look on his face.
“Hey, give him a break. He is not used to walking like this. Sure, he usually walks everywhere but not like this and nowhere near this far at this speed. I remember the first time that I had to walk like this. God, I abused the hell out of poor John”
“Yeah, he told me about that. He also told me that he told you to bloody quit then if you were too much of a girl to handle it”
“Yes, he did and I lost it. I decided then that I had to prove to him that I was better than any of the men on his team including you”
“Yeah, and you sure did that. Didn’t you beat the record time in completing the elite rough terrain course?”
“Yes, I did. I kicked some guy called Kieran’s arse big time. I beat his score by like an hour”
“Yeah, I heard about that too. I got a lot of shit from the people I was working with about that”
“You deserved it for leaving me”
“That’s true but if I had not left you would not have had the drive to beat me”
“That is very true. I still wish that you had not left, but maybe it was for the best. I might not have been the same agent if you had been here distracting me”
“Yes, and we are together now what is the main thing” Kieran reached out and took my hand. My heart gave a little flutter. I could still not believe that we were finally together again. We stopped talking after that and just walked in silence holding hands. All through this Hayley, Amber and Christina had been walking and watching us. John was right we made it back to my place in only two and a half hours.
As soon as we turned into my drive Romeo started running towards the house. We all laughed at him as he reached the house and started to run around it. He had managed to run around it 15 times by the time we reached the house. He raced me to the front door and stood there waiting for me to unlock it. As soon as the door was open, he went running in to make sure that the house was as we left it and safe. After he had completed his inspection, he came running back to us at the door wagging his tail letting us know that it was safe to enter. I entered the house first and the musty smell hit me straight away. I had left all the curtains closed so no sun or air had managed to get into the house. I walked around and opened all the curtains while mum went and put the kettle on. Since I lived out in the country, I always made sure that I had some powdered milk in the house in case I ever ran out of real milk. Mum made us drinks while Hayley, Amber and Christina went and put their packs in the rooms they were going to be staying in.
“I should show you around since you have never been here before” I took Kieran’s hand and showed him around the house. He put our packs in my room when we got to it, and Kieran stopped.
“So, this is where you rest your beautiful head at night?”
I laughed at him. “Yes, it is. Come on we better get back to the lounge. I am sure that mum will have been able to find some food for us in my cupboards” I took his hand and led him back towards the lounge. When we got here, I noticed that my friends where all on their cell phones. “Who are they talking to?”
“Their boyfriends” John was sat down in a chair with a cup of coffee in his hand.
“Oh ok” I sat down on the couch and Kieran came and sat next to me. I sat watching my friends. They all looked so happy. I was mentally kicking myself for not realising that they had boyfriends. I was trying to think back to how I had acted. I could not believe that they had not told me as they thought that it might hurt me. I wanted my friends to be happy. Hayley was the first to finish.
“Move your butt over girl. There is room on this couch for 3” I moved over, and she sat next to me. “Oscar is going to be here tomorrow. That’s ok ay?”
“That’s fine. I have already told you guys that it’s fine for you to have your boyfriends here. It just means that I might have to go shopping tonight. Are you going to have to go back to your place to get some clothes?”
