Chapter 68 Chapter 68
Jess’s POV
My mother had overheard the last part of the conversation and pulled me into her arms.
“Oh, honey happy endings do happen. Look at you and Kieran. He came back to you after all this time, and you are both still madly in love. Is that not a happy ending?”
“I suppose your right; I am just beating myself up because they got away, so now we have to come up with a plan to stop them doing the same thing all over again”
“I know. So, John, should we start to pack again then and head back home?”
“Yes. Go and pack and then we can all meet back here in half an hour and start back to town”
“What are you going to do about the humans who have guns? Are you going to get them back?”
“Yes, I am. I have asked them to put them by the rock. Kieran can you please go over and make sure that they are all there and put them back in the pack”
“Sure boss” Kieran gave my hand a reassuring squeeze as he walked away
“Come on sis lets go pack” Justin patted me on the back and pushed me towards my sleeping bag. It did not take me long to pack. I had decided to leave my gun out and carry it over my shoulder. You never know when I might need it. When Kieran had finished packing away the spare guns he walked over to me. I saw that he also had his gun over his shoulder. He took it off and leaned it against a tree as he sat down.
“You, ok?”
“Yeah, I’ll be fine just a bit pissed off that the aliens got away”
“Yeah, me too. But hey we can stop them from doing this again. Next time they come we will be ready and waiting for them”
“I know we will be” He agreed
“Hey on to a brighter note. Where are you going to be staying now that you are back in Christchurch?”
“Well before the aliens decided to come and take over, I was booked in to a hotel in town. How come?”
“Well, I was kind of thinking. I have plenty of room at my place if you want to come and stay with me”
“Jess, are you asking me if I would like to move in with you.”
“Um” I blushed and turned my face away from him. I am such an idiot we had only just got back together and here I was asking him to come and move in with me.
“I would love to move in with you Jess. To be able to wake up next to your every morning would make me the happiest man alive” I put his hand on my cheek and moved my face so that I was looking at him again. “I love you, Jess. You don’t need to ever get embarrassed to ask me anything” He leaned over and kissed me. When he pulled away from the kiss I rested my head on his shoulder. He put his arm around me, and we sat like that until everyone else was ready to hit the road.
“Ok everyone. We are going to go to Nicole’s place that she told us about. When we get there, I am going to update her on the situation. After that everyone can go their own way. Does anyone have any questions?” John stood in front of everyone. It reminded me of a school camp with the principle standing out the front giving the kids orders.
“We are going to head off on our own if you do not mind and we will meet up with you when you get back to town” William told him while avoiding looking at the humans
“No worries. Thank you for the help, William. You were a big help”
“Glad to help” William walked over to me and gave me a hug before he left with all his family apart from Hayley following.
“I was hoping that you would not mind if I tagged along with you guys”
“We would love you have you” I reached over and gave her a hug. I noticed some of the humans give me a look of disgust, but I ignored it. Nobody else had any questions so we all put on our packs and started walking. The humans all walked in small groups. John led the group with Justin next to him asking a million and one questions.
“I think that we might have a new member in our team” I pointed at Justin and Kieran laughed
“Yeah, he does seem very interested in all of this”
Mum and dad walked off to the side of Kieran and I. Amber and Hayley and Christina walked on the other side of us. Romeo walked right in front of me. I was happy it might be a bad situation that had brought us all together but everyone who I cared about was with me. Since we were not hiding from anything this time we walked along the main road. We stopped at a dairy for lunch and made ourselves some food. I grabbed a tin of dog food for Romeo. I was glad that it had a ring pull as I could not see any can openers. I found a bowl and filled it up with water for him. No one in the group owned up to owning the dairy so we guessed that it must belong to one of the people who were with Nicole. After lunch we hit the road again. Everyone seemed a lot happier after having some real food. Most of us had grabbed an extra drink for the road. I had grabbed a box of dog chocolates and kept giving one to Romeo every now and again. As we got closer to town everyone started to get more upbeat. Most of the men missed their women as they had not wanted to fight, so had gone with Nicole. I was glad that I had Kieran with me.
