Chapter 66 Chapter 66
Kieran’s POV
Just when we thought the ship was going to crash it took off and then disappeared. I looked over at Jess who had fallen to the ground with her head in her hands. Bob was about to go over to her, and I shook my head as I started to pack up our gear.
“She will be blaming herself” I whispered to them both “We need to pack everything up and then head back to camp and regroup”
They both nodded as they sat down close to Jess while I packed everything away. I had just finished when Jess looked up and realised that I had packed everything up. She was shocked that I had packed everything up what confused me. She would know that we now needed to get back to camp and come up with a plan. But she was feeling too down and felt that it was over, and we had lost. Why would she think that? We were winning and they knew it, we already knew that their species was dying out. They needed to come back as they needed us, we just had to make sure that we were better organised next time.
Jess threw her gun over her shoulder while I packed away her ammo and bedroll. We then all made our way back to camp. As soon as Alice saw Bob she came running over and jumped into his arms. I smiled at them, enjoying the show of affection. Jess left them to it and made her way over to John. I started to follow and realised that Justin was right beside me. I gave him a nod as we reached John and Jess asked him what the plan was. He was on the same page as me and thought that they would be going back to their planet to get reinforcements and then they would be back. They needed our women, and we needed to make sure that they didn’t get them.
We decided that we would head back to town as we needed to contact the other departments and see if they were attacked in the same way. John thought they might have targeted us since we were a small country. That made sense to me as we were the only country to find an alien and capture it. If the other countries were fine, then they might be able to send us some reinforcements to help us win. After all it would be the whole planet that they blew up not just our country.
John walked over to the humans to let them know that they could all go home. I guess that some of them would go back to meet with the women in the hotel. We needed to get back to the warehouse and try to contact the other agencies. I watched John and realised that now we were heading back I was homeless. I just hoped that Jess meant what she said earlier, and she would be ok with me living with her. If not, I guess I would have to make myself a room in the warehouse until I could find somewhere else.
John came back and it turns out that the humans did not even question anything. They were all just happy to get to go home. John had told the humans to place their guns that they borrowed by a rock. He sent me to collect them while Jess and her family started to pack everything up.
“Is it really over?” one of the men asked me as he handed me back his gun.
I looked at him trying to gauge if I should be honest or not. I decided that they should know “No” I sighed “The aliens need our women to keep their race from being extinct”
“So, they will be back?”
“Yes, but hopefully we will be more prepared next time”
“We almost won” he grinned “We will make sure we kill all the fuckers next time”
I grinned back “I like your attitude” I pulled a card out of my wallet and handed it to him “If you decide to want to me a more active player in the war contact me”
He looked at the card and smiled “Will do Agent Storm” He then walked off to the group of men, and I watched as they all packed up their packs and got ready to leave. I packed away the spare guns and slung my rifle over my shoulder before making my way back to Jess. I leaned my gun against the tree and sighed. I was so pissed off that we managed to let the aliens get away, now we were back to the waiting game of when they would be back. Then Jess asked me where I would be staying when I got back. I was shocked as I has been booked into a hotel before the aliens attacked, but I am guessing that would not work now. I was going to mention I could stay in the warehouse but then she started to mumble about her house having plenty of rooms and I figured out that my darling fiancé was trying to ask me if I wanted to move in with her. She looked so nervous, like she thought I would say no. Why on earth would I turn down an offer to be able to wake up with her in my arms every day. I had been waiting for her to ask me to move in since she decided to give me another chance. But she did not have to worry about the extra rooms, I would be staying in her room with her every night.
We sat down with our arms around each other as we waited for everyone to finish packing. It was decided that we would all head back to meet the women at the hotel. After that the men were on their own and we would head back to the warehouse. I was guessing that Jess’s friends and family would also be coming with us. William left with his family telling us that they would meet up with us again in town. I could not blame them as it must be hard for them to be around humans who looked at them with fear even though they just helped save them.
