Chapter 56 Chapter 56
Kieran’s POV
John placed me, Alice, Bob and Justin with Jess as snipers. I was not sure how good her family would be, but I knew that Jess and I would be an amazing team. Amber was going to be in the front line fighting like she loved, and Christina would be back at base to heal the wounded. I felt sorry for her as I think she only joined this side to be with her friends, but we all know that she is not a fighter. Romeo of course will be with Jess as we all knew he would be.
John sent Jess to the group of men who knew how to shoot but didn’t have guns. I had ten spare guns in my backpack. I watched her walk around the group with most of the men ignoring her and that pissed me off. She was one of the people who saved her arse, yet they were acting like dicks. After a couple of minutes, the men she chose started to walk over to me and I grabbed the guns out of my bag and handed them out. They were all just pistols so the men would be on the front like with everyone else.
Jess came over and scared the shit out of me by telling me I was breaking a lot of policies. I know it was stupid as John was the one who told me to pack the guns, but it still scared me. Then she made a comment about me being a higher rank then her and I had to laugh. Did she not realise that after her training we were both the same rank? Why on earth would she think that I was higher than her? I was about to correct her, but John beat me to it causing Jess to ask about equal pay. I had to laugh at her, we got any car we want, a house and very good pay packet. What more could she possibly want? She smiled at John as she walked away from us and over to her mum.
“Ok we need to get ready to start moving” John sighed “It’s at least a day’s walking, but I am going to say more two, as most of these men do not have our endurance training”
“We will need to take as much as we can from here” I told him as I glanced over at Jess who was talking to a scared looking Alice.
“You go and start packing get Justin and Bob to help you. I will go and start rallying up the men ready to start moving”
“Should we feed everyone first?” I asked
“I will start cooking while you boys start to pack and organise the men” Alice told us as she walked over with Jess.
“I will help you cook” Christina told her as they both walked off to the makeshift kitchen
“We will need more supplies” Jess sighed
“We pass more towns on the way, we will raid some shops on the way past” John told us.
“How far away is the closest one?” Jess asked “It might be easier to just find a store and get everyone to feed themselves”
“That’s not a bad idea” I nodded as I pulled out my tablet
“They had a kitchen and food at the alien camp” William told us as he walked over “Why not just go and eat that. It looks like they fed the humans well while they held them captive”
“Mum, don’t worry about cooking” Jess chuckled “We will eat at the alien camp, so we will just get everything packed up and then get moved”
It did not take us long to get the camp all packed up and we all set off back to the alien’s base. William was right and they had plenty of food. Everyone helped themselves to what they wanted and then we packed away the rest in packs that we found. We even found some more guns that Jess handed out to people she felt would be the best suited. Soon most of the men had a pack full of supplies and we were on our way.
John was right and the trip took longer than the one day. The men all had to stop every few hours, so we ended up stopping for every meal and having to stop for the men to sleep during the night. We finally arrived near where the spaceship was situated after three days of traveling. John, Jess and I huddled over my tablet to discover the best place for us to set up camp. We need a good viewpoint of the ship, but we needed to make sure that they didn’t notice us getting there. We found a decent size clearing that was elevated above where the ship was located.
“Ok men” John called out “We have located a good place for us to set up camp. Follow us” He started walking with Jess and I beside him. With her family and friends right behind us, the vampires were lurking around us as they kept having to find animals to feed on.
We arrived at the clearing just before night fall and everyone chose a spot and curled up and fell asleep. Jess and I walked to the side and zipped our sleeping bags together before snuggling up and falling asleep in each other’s arms.
I woke up before Jess and gave a kiss on the nose to wake her up.
“When this is over, I plan on hiding away in my house with you and not leaving again until I have had my fill” she chuckled as she pecked my lips.
“Well, I am currently homeless” I chuckled “The department sold my apartment when they knew I would not be back. Now that the department is kind of fucked, I am not sure what I will do”
“Marry me and live with me” She chuckled “I kind of gathered that’s what was going to happen anyway”
She was right, why would I need my own place when I was going to be spending every night with Jess anyway.
