Jess’s POV
The next couple of months flew by. I studied as hard as I could and when I was at work I was learning how to shoot and survive with only nature around me. I loved it and I was a natural. Grahams told me that it was because of my gift it made learning easier. Soon it was time for the exam results to be released. I sat at the dining room table waiting for the results to be posted online when mum and dad came in.
“Close your eyes love”
“Mum come on I am trying to wait for my results without having a nervous breakdown. Why would I want to close my eyes?”
“Because I have a present for you now close your eyes”
I did as she asked giving a big sigh as I did to show her that I was not happy. Then I felt something warm been placed in my lap.
“Ok open your eyes”
I opened my eyes and saw the cutest Border collie puppy in the world. He looked up at me with big brown eyes.
“Well, aren’t you the little heart breaker”
“Do you like him?”
“I love him thank you so much” Just then a notification popped up that my results were available. I clicked the link and waited for it to open. I slowly read down my results and then I started to scream and jump up and down with my new friend followed my lead and started to bark and jump on the spot too.
“Well how did you do?”
I could not even talk I turned the laptop to face my mum, and she joined in with the screaming and jumping. Just then agent Grahams turned up.
“By the way you are acting is it safe to say that your results are good then?”
I instantly calmed down “Well sir if you class straight A’s as being good then yes sir, I did good” I had to smile then. Straight A’s I could not believe it.
“Very well done. I have asked Yates to bring one of your presents for you” As soon as he spoke, I saw my kombi turn on to the street.
“What do you mean presents?” My mother asked
“Well Jess has become a valued member of our team, so we have bought her a little cottage and a new car to say thank you and to welcome her as a full time employee”
“Wow well done Jess looks like you have found a good job” My dad smiled at me with a look that let me know that he could not be prouder of me. Just then the puppy jumped into my lap and started to lick my face
“Ok I will introduce you. Sir I would like you to meet Romeo”
“Romeo ay, cute name”
“Thank you this is what my parents bought me. I think that he will love my new place. There will be lots of room for you to run around” I gave Romeo a kiss on the top of his head. “Wow so school is over. I am moving into my own place. I am about to start working fulltime and I have a cute little puppy to keep me company. The only thing missing from this picture is Kieran” I gave a sigh. He told me that he would keep in touch, and I had not heard a thing from him and didn’t answer my calls or my texts. I had not received one email from him where Hayley emailed me every day. I felt a tear trickle down my cheek and absently wiped it away. “Ok I am going to pack my clothes and stuff into my new car”
“What are you going to do with your old car?” Justin asked
“I doubt you would want it do you?”
“Um no, that thing will leave a huge carbon footprint. I will stick to riding my bike thank you”
“Fine I will give it to Christina then. I know that she has been saving or trying to save for a new car. I will ring her now and let her know the good news then I am going to pack. Hey, sir, do I need to stop off at a shop to get food or is the place got food and plates and all that crap”
“It’s not crap we have filled it with the best quality products out there. We have filled the cupboards and the fridge for you. It should last you a few months until you get into the swing of buying your own food”
“Thank you. You are the best boss a girl could ask for”
I came back to the present we had made it to the top of the mountain as I had been talking.
“Then you can guess the rest. I moved into my new house with Romeo here and worked full time learning how to kill and survive and Kieran never came back or even contacted me once”
“Are you sure that he is still alive. I mean you guys deal with some crazy stuff, what if he pissed off a werewolf or something”
“Thanks for that Justin, but no he is or was still alive. He reported into grahams, but when he finished an assignment, he would always ask for another that was away from me. Any way enough about that. Can you guys please set up camp? I am going to see if I can see a base where the creeps are taking our women”
“Did you know this was going to happen? As you were not really that well prepared”
“No, we had a satellite set up so that it would alert us of any vessel trying to get too close to earth but it never went off” Just then my cell phone rang. “What the hell I did not think that these would still work” I looked at the screen and almost cried “Christina my god, are you ok?” Christina talked quick and in code that we had not used since we were all at primary school. I told her in code where we were and she told me that her, Amber and Hayley will meet me there in 24 hours. I hung up the phone and felt hope.
