Christina also passed the obstacle course.
“I did it I did it” she jumped up and down on the spot. Nick had waited behind to watch her, and she went running straight into his arms. “Now I get to train with you” She carried on jumping as Nick led her towards the shooting range. I smiled as I watched them leave. I had a feeling that with Nicks help Christina could turn out to be a pretty good solder. I wiped the smile of my face as I turned to address the group in front of me.
 “Ok those of you who passed the running test and have now passed the obstacle course can now go and see Agent Grahams at the shooting range” I watched as most of the people stood up and started to move “Ok guys I do not take well to cheating. We know who has passed and who hasn’t. If you go to Agent Grahams when you have not passed both courses, you will be punished” I smiled as most of the people decided to sit down again. “Now that’s more like it. Hayley can you please shoot this list over to John just so he can make sure that he only has those who have passed with him. Can you please bring back the ones that have not passed but have snook over. That way I can get my darling husband to use them as an example of what happens to people who cheat”
“That would be my pleasure boss” Hayley showed a bit of fang as she smiled just to add to the scare factor.
“Ok now I want the rest of you to spread out. I want you to be at least an arm’s length away from the people around you” I waited while they got themselves sorted “Ok now we are going to start on the fitness training. I want you all to be aware that you do not stop until I tell you to stop. You do not complain. If you cannot handle it, then I suggest that you go pack your bags and leave. I am not going to be nice. I am going to push you to your limit and then I am going to keep on pushing. Now let’s start by getting you all nice and warm. Let’s start with star jumps.” I joined in and watched them. They had learnt not to show off this made me proud they all kept up with me and watched me waiting for the next command. “Ok well done. Now I want you do lunges. I want you to do one to the side then one to the front. I want you to lunge with your left leg first” I showed them what to do and they followed me. I was shocked at how well they were following orders. So far, I had not had to cope with one smart arse. Maybe a war against another species brought out the better in people.

I looked out across my group. All of them where on the ground groaning in pain. I had known that they were out of shape, but this was crazy. We had only been working out for two hours and they all looked like I had made them fight a bunch of Vampires.
“Come on guys get up” I ordered
“You have just made us do exercise after exercise for the last two hours. You have got to be dreaming if you think we will even be able to move for the rest of the day” I blonde lean looking guy spoke from near the front
“Am sorry but I was working right along with you, and I am still moving. That was just a warmup”
“You have got to be kidding. That is not a warmup. Most people exercise for half an hour. The keen ones only usually go for an hour. Not two hours”
“What’s your name?”
“Karl with a K”
“Well Karl with a K we are about to go to war. This is not a human war where you can just shoot each other. This is a war where we are going to have to fight in hand-to-hand combat. We will have snipers, but they will only be shooting the aliens trying to escape. How are you going to cope in a war if you cannot even cope with two hours of standard exercises?”
“I guess we are going to have to toughen up then ay?”
“Yes, you are. Now if you want to stay here get up. NOW!” I shouted. Everyone jumped up and stood waiting for the next order “I want you all to run around the compound. I will make a good challenge. If you can beat me, I will give you tomorrow off”
Everyone got excited about the challenge and started giggling and muttering among themselves.
“Ok now that I have got you all excited and motivated. I would like you all to follow me to the start line. This will also be the finish line. You have to run around the whole perimeter. If you cut corners, you will be doing extra exercises. Does everyone understand?”
I heard a few yeses and a few, hurry up and get this thing started.
“Ok. Hayley since you have the best eyesight can you please be the judge?”
“It would be my pleasure. Ok everyone please get into your starting positions. Ok on your marks, get set. GO”
I laughed as I watched everyone set off at a sprint. They had all ran this race. They knew how long it was. The fact that many of them had not even finished it proved to me that they were not very quick learners. When I reached the quarter mark. I was starting to pass people. I could hear them muttering to themselves and cursing themselves for not pacing themselves. I carried on laughing as I passed more and more people as I reached the halfway marker. By the time I reached the ¾ marker. I was in the lead. I finished the race over five minutes before anyone else. I stood waiting at the finish line until everyone was there. Not all of them finished. Most gave up as soon as I overtook them.
“Is that really all that you have? You have done this course before. You know what it takes, yet most of you did not even complete it again. Get to the muck room now. I do not even want to look at any of you right now. I will let Agent Grahams deal with you” I turned and walked away from them.
