Chapter 81─Clara and Rose investigate the wolf ladies
Clara was anxious on her way to Rose’s house.
“I hope she doesn’t think that I’m making things up. But then, her own gardener gave me the information. I hope he agrees that he informed us,” she thought to herself when she got off the taxi and walked over to Rose’s gate.
Rose was standing out on the front porch already, looking out for her.
“Good, she didn’t forget that I was coming,” Clara told herself with a sigh of relief. She knew that Rose could look into supernatural things, but Clara did not feel free to confide in Myrtle about werewolves or supernatural knowledge.
“Oh it’s good that you came so soon,” Rose commented when Clara walked into the gate.
Clara smiled in response as she walked up to Rose.
“Yes, I heard from your gardener that some wolves were out to intimidate the humans in our area,” she commented as she walked into Rose’s lounge.
“So, do you have any idea about who those wolves are?” Rose asked.
“I think it’s the same ones that Mishka and Gillian ran into in the woods yesterday,” Clara responded. “There was one which was watching the house quite closely yesterday and it was daring enough to show up twice,” she added with an anxious look in her eyes.
“So, does Mishka know anything about werewolves?” Rose asked, studying Clara’s face closely.
“I really don’t know, but yesterday she and Gillian took our gardener along to go and search for wolves before sunset.
I did tell Gillian about werewolves one day, but not in too much detail. I think she must have told Mishka about what I said, though. They tell each other everything, you know,” Clara replied.
“Then, let’s assume that they both know enough to take our warnings seriously if something is wrong,” Rose commented.
“I don’t know if Mishka’s grandmother knows anything about werewolves, that’s why I didn’t tell her that I was coming to see you. She doesn’t know about my knowledge of them,” Clara explained.
“So, my gardener found out from secret sources that those same wolf ladies are out to cause a sickness which will affect only humans, you say?” Rose asked. Clara had phoned her and explained the situation before coming over to her place.
“Yes and since I don’t know when this is going to happen, I thought that I should come over for advice. You might be able to use your skills and find out exactly what was going on?” Clara asked, looking at Rose with big eyes, full of hope.
“Okay, I will take a look into this and maybe contact someone else if I can’t find out who these people are myself,” Rose responded with a reassuring nod.
“That will be helpful for all of us, if you can do that, please,” Clara asked with her eyes lighting up slightly.
“Then wait here and I will go and see what I can do. I won’t be too long, don’t worry,” Rose promised before she got up from her chair and walked out of the room.
Rose walked through the passage and the kitchen before she reached the small cottage at the back. She still could not believe what she had heard from Clara.
“Can werewolves really be out to cause trouble?” she asked herself as she walked.
“So, I can’t tell Myrtle that Clara is here,” she murmured to herself further.
“Let me then just see what’s going on with this new movement amongst the wolves. Trying to intimidate us in more ways than stalking. How daring,” she commented as she closed the door behind herself.
After staring into the crystal bowl for a few minutes without seeing anything, Rose closed her eyes and sang a song from years ago, when the other clairvoyants were still with her and Myrtle. It made Rose feel at ease.
“Now I’m ready for whatever I’m gonna see,” she said at the end of the song, before she opened her eyes again.
This time the blurry figures of two individuals were immediately visible. Rose stared until the picture became clearer.
“Oh, it’s them again!” she hissed out.
“They are planning something way on top of a mountain. Wait, they seem to be doing something already,” Rose murmured and continued to look into the crystal ball with her heart beating faster in her chest.
“They are blowing something into the air. Oh, so that’s supposed to affect normal humans, I suppose. And what can it do to unusual humans?” Rose asked as she studied Jean’s cold facial expression through the crystal ball.
“I don’t think that her spell or whatever she’s doing is supposed to affect enlightened folks. I wonder,” Rose whispered as she continued to watch.
“Her friend seems to be just watching, but she’s still an accomplice,” Rose muttered through clenched jaws.
“Anyway, both Myrtle and I now know how these two look. So, I will give a description of them to Steven and he will make some enquiries amongst his friends who know wolves personally. We will catch these girls and ask them what they were sending from the hilltop,” Rose told herself. There was nothing new coming up in the crystal ball.
“Let me get Steven’s help and then I can ask Myrtle to look into this. Maybe she will see more or maybe she can reverse whatever these two jealous girls have been doing,” Rose commented out loud as she replaced the crystal ball into its secret cupboard in the cottage dining area.
Clara jumped up when she saw Rose return to the lounge.
“Did you find out something?” she asked with large, anxious eyes.
“I found out that the girls who have been stalking Myrtle and myself are busy with potentially dangerous stuff,” Rose responded in a low tone of voice.
“Yes, that’s what I understood from your gardener who saw them when he was collecting mountain plants for your garden,” Clara responded, sighing in despair.
“But, if we find out exactly what those women were doing we can reverse their work and intentions,” Rose remarked before she sank into an armchair.
“It’s a pity that it’s only myself and Myrtle who know how to look into people’s hidden business,” she mumbled with a frown as she tried to concentrate.
“So, Myrtle also knows how to read people’s destinies?” Clara asked with her breath held.
“Yes, I thought that you would know that after working for her for so long?” Rose asked with her brows raised in surprise as she stared at Clara.
“One can make guesses, but she’s very secretive,” Clara remarked as she stared down at the floor.
“Are you now going to look at her differently? Are you gonna be afraid of her?” Rose asked with a concerned frown between her brows.
“I never really got to know her well,” Clara muttered as if speaking to herself.
“Oh, but now you can have an entirely new relationship with her. She can help you sort out some of your problems,” Rose remarked as she gazed at Clara closely to see what she was feeling.
“Well, Myrtle doesn’t know that I knew certain wolves in the past either,” Clara remarked as she looked up at Rose with one of her brows raised.
“Oh, you did? But then you can easily find out what their descendants are doing lately, can’t you?” Rose asked with her eyes stretched wide as she looked at Clara in surprise.
