Chapter 146 The attack V

Chapter 146 The attack V
NANCY’S POV

The cold edge of the knife pressed harder against my skin. Not enough to cut me, but enough to remind me how fragile life really was and how one slit in the wrong spot could lead to silence for all of eternity.

I’d always said I wasn't afraid to die and that I would be happy as long as I was able to take Hudson to the grave with me, but now that I was truly faced with death, I realised how terrifying it really was.

I wasn’t even as scared the night that Mr Landon had been trapped in the house with bullets raining around us. This moment led me to realise just how secure I had actually felt with him against what I said back then.

My chest rose and fell rapidly, and despite breathing in and out multiple times, I couldn’t get my heart to stop racing, which only served to heighten my fear, because what if I breathed in or out too deeply and the knife slashed my throat.

Thinking of it now, I couldn’t blame only myself for not acting fast enough and waiting until this moment to take action when I could have made my move a while back.

This thought reverberated in my head for a long while until it stopped. Everything stopped, and the realization that I couldn’t have acted even if I wanted to hit me all of a sudden.

Yes, I had no reason to blame myself.

If killing Hudson were so easy, then I wouldn’t be here in the first place. I wouldn’t have felt the need to escape all the way to Florida either. I would have just stayed in New Jersey and ended him once and for all.

When that thought settled, calm washed over me. I felt a sense of calm like I hadn’t felt in days, and it overshadowed every other feeling.

“Do it then,” I muttered, twisting slightly to glance at Hudson, whose grip on the knife immediately loosened.

That small action told me that he wouldn’t necessarily kill me unless he had to, either. If he wanted to win over Mr Landon, then I was his best asset.

And that was the exact reason why I couldn’t let him have his way.

“Kill me. Let’s get it over and done with,” I spat out through clenched teeth.

His pupil widened slightly, like he hadn’t expected me to say those words or hadn’t thought that they were words I could ever say, and that made me bolder.

“Aren’t you tired of this back and forth?” I asked, nudging my shoulders. “I am, so you might as well put me out of my misery and kill me.

His hold on me faltered, then tightened again, like he was warring within himself.

“Kill me,” I urged, swallowing down every feeling of fear that told me to say otherwise.

The knife trembled against my throat, and I heard him let out a shaky breath behind me.

I thought he would let me go, since he didn’t seem like he could actually kill me, but his next move was one that I could have never expected even if I tried to guess at it.

He laughed.

It was a deep, throaty laughter, the kind someone who was thoroughly amused would give, and it made me pause.

“What are you laughing at?” I asked before I could stop myself.

He didn’t respond; he kept on chuckling, and his laughter lasted a couple of minutes before it ceased.

“Can’t you tell?” He snorted with a voice full of amusement. “I’m obviously laughing at you.”

My gaze changed, and my jaw clenched slightly.

“You’re gullible if you really think I will kill you,” he continued, voice dripping with sarcasm. “Why would I kill you and give up my leverage?”

“You should have heard Landon’s voice when I told him I had you. He sounded frightened. Why would I give you up when you’re enough to back him into a corner?”

“Also,” he drawled out, reaching up to run his finger over my exposed neckline. “Did you forget that I haven’t gotten a taste of you yet?”

“Before I kill you, I need to know what your pussy will feel like gripping my rock-hard cock while you drain the cum out of me. Say it, Nancy, don’t you want to know how that feels too?”

I could swear the air left my lungs.

I’d never heard of someone being so disgusted that they forgot how to breathe, but I guess I could be considered the first.

Hudson’s vile statement irritated me so much that at that moment, I wasn’t opposed to him actually killing me.

I couldn’t even bring myself to imagine the picture he created. I felt like I would puke if I tried to.

“Dream on,” I hissed, thoroughly incensed.

His chuckle rang out, and my hands balled into fists.

Before I could say more, hurried footsteps echoed from the hallway.

Both of us turned slightly, and again, my breath caught in my throat when I saw who it was.

It was my Mom, and one of Hudson’s guards. She was being held by the latter, and it was when they stood right in front of us that I realised her hands were tied behind her back.

I had to admit, I had totally forgotten that she was somewhere in this building. It wasn’t until this moment that I realised she hadn’t gone home yet.

My gaze swerved back to Hudson.

“Why is my mom tied up?”

It wasn’t the fact that she was tied up that made me question him, it was how disheveled she looked.

Her hair was roughed up, and her face was pale with fear. She wasn’t looking up either, and it made me wonder what had been done to her.

I didn’t waste time asking.

“What’s wrong with her? What did you do?”

Hudson didn't need to answer. My mom lifted her head, and I finally met her eyes.

As if she’d just realised I was there, her face widened with horror.
