Chapter 18

It’s been about 24 hours since the first rogue boy was captured by border patrol, and we believe the drug is finally out of his system. So here we were, all crowded into his solitary cell while he was cuffed and chained to a chair to avoid any escaping, and or attempted attacks. Honestly I felt kind of bad for the boy, he looked terrified. Which is understandable. He came to in an unknown room by himself and then someone came in to chain him to a chair and a crowd followed soon after. That would be scary for anyone, let alone a boy who was drugged and brainwashed to commit murder.

“Do you remember how you got here?” The Alpha asked.

“Not entirely, sir. Everything is a bit of a blur.” The boy responded.

“Ask him his name.” I told Jackson.

He nodded before asking the boy his name.

“Carlos, sir.”

“Well Carlos, can you tell us what you do remember?” He asked.

“The last thing I remember clearly is this girl approaching me as I was walking home from school. I’m part of the Lunar Light pack, you see. It's not very big and I had never seen her before, but she didn’t smell like a rogue. She said that she was traveling with her pack and got separated.”

“Why wouldn’t she just mind link them if that were true?” A guard questioned.

“She said that she was a late bloomer and hadn’t shifted yet, so she hadn’t developed a mind link. She asked for directions to the pack house so she could meet her Alpha there. But as soon as I turned to show her where to go I felt a pain in my neck, after that, everything is a bit of a blur.”

“Did you catch her name?” Christian asked.

The boy nodded. “She said her name was Jillian.”

Upon hearing that name, Jackson tensed beside me. I looked at him confused by his reaction. Does he know her?

“Everyone out, we’ll come back later to try and find out more. He needs rest.” Jackson demanded, and soon after everyone was filing out of the room.

As Jackson, Christian, and I were walking back to the pack house, Christian also noticed Jackson’s tension.

“Are you okay? Do you recognize that name?” I asked.

He nodded in response before stopping and taking a deep breath.

“I had a childhood friend named Jillian, she had ended up finding her mate soon after she turned for the first time, but he was killed by a rogue when he was on patrol. A couple years later she had confessed her feelings for me, and when I explained I didn’t feel the same and that I was waiting for my mate, she ran off. No one in the pack has seen her since.” Jackson explained.

“I hope you don’t get angry by me asking, but do you think that she is capable of doing this?” Christian asked cautiously.

“I mean it’s possible. After her mate died, something changed in her, she was never the same. Her dream was to be the next pack doctor, but when she couldn’t save him it was like something snapped and died inside of her. I thought she was getting better, but after I rejected her I don’t know what went through her mind.”

“My question is why? Why is she revealing who she is now?” I asked.

“It was a message to me, that it's my fault that this is going on. She wants me to know what it feels like to not be able to protect my mate.”

“And if she succeeds, then she thinks you’ll finally want to be with her...” Christian added.

As this new information and realization sunk in, you could practically cut the tension in the air with a knife. We now knew who was doing this and why. Now all we needed to figure out was the ‘where’ and the ‘when.’ Where was she hiding, and when was she gonna make her next move?

“Do you have any pictures of her? We need to send it to the surrounding packs and let them know she’s out there and is dangerous.” I signed frantically.

She not only got to the Blood Moon pack's territory and the Lunar Light territory, but she made her way here, almost undetected.

“I have her school photos from before she ran off. I think they’re in my closet somewhere.”

“Well let's go see if we can find them.” Christian said.
