Chapter 176 Untitled Chapter
Chapter 176 Untitled Chapter
As soon as the door was unlocked, I held the door handle and pushed it back with all my strength, knocking down the guy.
He staggered backward, and he fell on the floor. The officer jumped on him and handcuffed his hands behind his back.
“I am doomed!” he cried out, wriggling to free himself from the officer. And yes, he is doomed. Thank goodness he knows.
“Where is my daughter?” I pointed the gun at him and squatted in front of him. “Where is Sophia?” When I pressed the gun to his head, he broke down in tears, quivering.
“Over there,” he pointed at the door facing the exit door. “She is in there. And the keys to the door are inside my pocket.”
Just imagine. My own daughter is locked inside a room. I swear, this guy will spend the rest of his life in the cell underground. That lace is so dark that even a cat's eyes can never light it.
I removed the keys from his pocket, got up, and headed to the room. As the keys turned inside the keyhole, the rhythm of my heart beat echoed with it. I hope nothing has happened to my daughter. The moment I pushed the door, my daughter was lying on the floor, lifeless.
“Sophia!” I screamed her name, running towards her. But she didn't move. I ran my fingers below her nostrils but felt nothing.
They've killed my daughter. Noah finally sent her to her early grave. What did I do to deserve this torture from him?
“Detective Lizzy?” the officer called, pinning the guy to the floor. “Send for an ambulance at once,” I sniffled, getting up from the floor. “And a backup from your division. I want this place sealed.”
I carried Sophia on my arms and walked out of the apartment. Outside, I tried all I could to revive her, but nothing worked. She wasn't breathing, her heart wasn't beating, and her body was turning pale.
But even with that, I know that Sophia isn't dead. She cannot die, not now. She must live, even if I have to sacrifice myself to give her life. My baby has a long way to go in her life.
She wants to become a detective when she grows up, and I swear, I must make that dream of hers come true.
A few minutes later, the ambulance arrived, and the siren brought out everyone in the estate. I wanted the whole thing to be a secret so Noah wouldn't get a hint that I had found Sophia. However, everyone was flashing their phones towards the kidnapper as he was being dragged into the patrol cars.
Their cameras were all pointed towards us, and I could have stopped them if not for the fact that my attention was on Sophia.
“Lock him up in the underground dungeon and do not allow any of the officers in the headquarters to get access to him until I return.” I passed the order to the officers and entered my car.
Since it will all be over the news before the day ends, no need to take the criminal to the division or the guestroom; he doesn't deserve that. He must be tortured before the real torture comes up.
“Detective Lizzy?” Doctor Felix, who was present outside the emergency unit, called, hurrying towards me. “My daughter, I found her, but she isn't breathing.” I held his hand, pointing towards the ambulance.
“Please, Doctor Felix, help me save Sophia.”
As he placed his hand on my shoulder, I covered my face, sobbing bitterly. My heart feels so heavy, and I want to cry out loud.
“I will do anything to save her, Lizzy, trust me.”
He stepped away, gesturing at the nurses who were rolling out Sophia from the ambulance. “Be fast,” he ordered, rolling up his white coat sleeve.
As the bed was being pulled inside the emergency unit, I followed swiftly, but I was stopped when the curtains were dropped.
“Trust me, Detective Lizzy, your baby will be fine,” he assured me for the last time before going inside.
I inhaled deeply, exhaled, and turned my back against the curtain. I really wish and pray my daughter comes back alive if she is dead.
If I lose this girl, Noah and that dude must die in my hands. And even if she survives, they will still die because I will do whatever I can to seek justice for my daughter and whoever must have fallen into their hands.
“Where is Sophia?” the officer asked as soon as he arrived at the waiting area where I was seated, head down. I lifted my head slowly, sighing. “Doctor Felix is on her head, attending to her. He assured me she would be fine.”
“I hope so, Detective Lizzy. And about the guy, I had him locked underground just as you've ordered. What else do you want me to do?”
Ooh, there are a lot of things he will do for me. But first, I must make sure Sophia is okay. As soon as she gets better, I will chase Noah and continue digging deep into the kind of business he is in.
Also, why would he kidnap Sophia? It wouldn't be because he needed money from me, right? If he was after money, he would have long demanded a ransom, and Sophia would have been released long ago.
There must be a reason he held her captive, and whatever it is, Sophia will tell me when she wakes up, unless they've already messed with my baby’s brain.
“Detective Lizzy?” Doctor Felix called, hurrying towards me. My heart started pounding against my chest as I saw him hastening towards me.
I hope nothing bad has happened to my daughter. I pray she isn't dead.
“Where is she?” I held his hand, staring into his eyes in anticipation.
“Lizzy?” he sighed, shaking his head. “Tell me already, Felix!” I snapped, fighting back my tears. “What happened to her? Is she dead?”
“Absolutely not, your daughter isn't dead.”
Thank goodness! What a relief. He scared me so much. But if my daughter is alive, why does he look this way? And why does he look sad?
“Give it to me straight, Felix. Is there anything wrong with her?”
“Uhm… like I said, Sophia is alive, but she has gone into a coma.”
