Chapter 48: Much to Reveal

Magnus

The prison cell was a dreadful place. I never thought someone like me would fall so low, but none of that mattered now because I was free.

Every step outside those walls was a tangible reminder that the battle was not yet over. We were heading towards the next encounter in court, and anxiety and determination mixed in my chest. The grand finale was approaching, our next encounter would be decisive, we would finally know who won the lawsuit.

“Magnus, we need to be prepared for what’s coming,” said Miranda, her gaze reflecting the seriousness of the moment.

I nodded, knowing that every detail of our case needed to be examined thoroughly. As we worked together on the legal strategy, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for every moment I spent by her side. Freedom was a precious gift, but the true wealth was in sharing those moments with her.

“We’re going to win this, Magnus.” Miranda squeezed my hand, conveying confidence.

“There’s no other option. I can’t allow Richard to keep getting away with it, not after everything he’s put us through, this has to end.”

“And so it will, he’ll soon realize he shouldn’t have messed with Magnus Anderson.”

“And he’ll wish he hadn’t bothered Miranda Reynolds.”

The days became a mix of legal preparations and stolen moments of peace. Amid paperwork and strategies, we found refuge in mutual affection. Being close to Miranda was my anchor in the storm that was brewing.

It seemed that being with her was the only respite in my day, the moment when I felt most alive.

“Magnus, whatever happens, I want you to know that I’m here with you,” she told me one night, her gaze somewhat absent.

“I couldn’t ask for better support, Miranda.”

The night before the final encounter, we immersed ourselves in the documents, reviewing every detail.

Although uncertainty hung in the air, so did mutual trust. We loved each other, and that was our greatest strength. I didn’t care that Josh was getting in the way, Miranda and I were looking to sort out all the paperwork for her divorce, I wanted her to be my wife, I wanted her to be mine.

“Tomorrow, we’ll finish this,” I assured Miranda, knowing that the final battle was about to begin.

“We still have a little time.”

“It’s better to rest, I think I’m seeing some smoke from your head.”

Her laughter had become my favorite sound.

That night, in the quiet before the storm, we embraced, seeking comfort and strength in each other’s warmth. Dawn would bring the final decision, and together we would face whatever was necessary to protect our future and that of our baby.

The dim city lights illuminated the path to a new stage. We had decided to go out for dinner, looking for a moment of relaxation before the final showdown in court. Miranda and I walked through the lit streets, words floated between us, charged with palpable tension.

“Magnus, I think this break is all we need.” Miranda looked at me with eyes that revealed the weight of the journey.

“I just want to please you today, darling.”

I understood the need to disconnect for a moment. We chose a cozy restaurant, with tables arranged under dim lights. Dinner passed between subtle laughs, and comments that barely scratched the surface of what we truly wanted to tell each other. I could feel the tension between us, seeing her in that dress only made me want to take it off.

“Magnus, I don’t want this situation to change us too much.” Miranda toyed with the wine glass, conveying her concern.

“I promise that, whatever happens, I will remain the same. Nothing will separate us.”

“I don’t think you’ll need me when the lawsuit is over.”

“I think I’ve always needed you.”

After paying the bill, we decided to return to the apartment. As we plunged into the darkness of the hallway, the tension between us increased.

Every glance, every accidental touch, was a reminder of the palpable connection we shared. I was grateful that neither Josh nor Hannah were around at this moment.

“Miranda, I think I can’t wait any longer.” My words hung in the air, heavy with meaning.

She nodded, as if she had been waiting for me to say those words. The apartment, once the door was closed, became a refuge where the accumulated tension exploded. The passion we shared was a burning fire, a release from the pressure that had built up over time.

“Magnus, I don’t want this to change between us.”

Miranda whispered between gasps, her gaze seeking the security she could only find in my eyes.

“Nothing will change, Miranda. We’re in this together, whatever happens.”

The night passed between whispers of love and promises whispered in the darkness of the room. We slept together, breaking down the barriers we had built around ourselves. In the dimness of the room, we found mutual refuge, a moment of peace amidst all the chaos that lurked in our lives.

My eyes opened in the dimness of the room when the insistent sound of the phone broke the peace of the night. I stretched my arm towards the bedside table, clumsily searching for the device.

“Hello?” I murmured, still immersed in sleep. Hannah’s voice, tinged with anxiety, resonated on the other end of the line.

“Magnus, I’m sorry for calling you at this hour, but Richard… he’s not well. I don’t know what to do, I’m scared, and Josh is just like me.”

A chill ran down my spine. The fragility of the situation became evident, and a knot formed in my stomach. I should have guessed she would be with Josh.

“He’s earned it, your brother is an idiot.”

“I found him badly hurt, he doesn’t even know I’m here, you have to help me.”

“I’ll be there soon.”

I hung up and hurried to get dressed. The silence in the room was only broken by the soft murmur of the city outside. I looked at Miranda, who was still asleep, oblivious to what was happening.

I knew this was my chance to get rid of Richard once and for all, he would no longer be around and I would win in court, it would be like killing two birds with one stone.

“Miranda, I need to leave. Hannah called me, Richard is not well.” Miranda sat up, blinking sleepily.

The reflection of the city lights was mirrored in her eyes as she processed the information.

“I’ll go with you, you’re capable of committing any crime without me by your side.”

A whisper of gratitude escaped my lips as I headed towards the door to wait for her. The night still had much to reveal.
