Chapter 96 Not A coincidence!
Chapter Ninety-Five
“Alright, that’s enough excitement,” Lucian said gruffly, eying Zach with irritation, “I asked you to make a report on her not go there to get gossip fodder!”
Zach eyed him back, “As though you’re not excited as well.” He grinned clownishly, “You’re not just excited. You’re scared. Right?!”
“What?!”
“Haha! Lucian, there’s no need to be so uptight!.” Zach laughed good naturedly, “You’re scared for your wife right? That she won’t be able to hold up?!”
Lucian glared at him, “Aria is very capable. Today is no exception,” he smirked, “Nathan should use this opportunity to rethink his decision to go against her in the future.”
“Wow, what devotion. You already think she will win this fight.” Zach mused warily.
Lucian only shrugged as the man was not far from the truth.
Zach could not help but sigh, “But you know she took some kind of risk over there, right?” He asked, suddenly serious, “Taking on the Nexus project? Are they even worthwhile? That’s a lot of money to waste on them.”
Lucian leaned back on his seat, inhaling deeply.
Yes, Aria had made a big risk with that one. He also did not think Nexus was a viable or worthwhile project, but at the moment, the only thing he could do was just believe in her.
If she could wake him up from his coma, then she could turn around a dead project and make it whole.
“And one more thing,” Zach went on uncomfortably, “That Nexus project is one in which the Vaughn Empire has their eyes on.”
Lucian paused at that, then looked up at Zach, his brows drawn in a frown.
“Is that so?” He asked, “And why is that?”
Zach shrugged, “Maybe for the same thing which Aria is seeing in the project as well.” He answered, “Cone to think of it, why would a giant conglomerate like the Vaughn Empire be interested in that tiny startup? Maybe they have something which no one else sees.”
The moment he said it, it clicked and they both looked up at each other in alarm.
“It’s a goldmine!”
This was a term they normally used to refer to projects which did not seem very profitable from the onset for everyone else, except the key players.
Although, Lucian did not know what was making Nexus a goldmine, he was sure Aria knew about it. If not she would not have gone for them, and the Vaughn Empire would definitely not be vying the it as well.
“Well, I guess the only thing we have to do now, is to wait patient,” Zach uttered, “I’m very sure Aria would pull it off though. What about you?”
Lucian shrugged, his eyes calm and unimpressed, “We will see.”
Zach made a face at him, aware that he was trying to seem cool, whereas he was overly excited for his wife.
“Love sick puppy.” He muttered under his breath.
“What was that?” Lucian asked with a dangerous arch of his eyebrow.
Zach started nervously, “Nothing.” He laughed nervously, surprised that Lucian had heard that.
Lucian eyed him with irritation, “Is there something else you would like to report to me?”
Zach shook his head, “Nope, I’ll be at my desk.” He uttered and started walking towards the door, where his desk was located right outside.
“Come back.”
Lucian’s voice made him stop and he turned back towards the desk gingerly.
“You do have something to report to me.” Lucian uttered coldly, “Spit it out.”
Zach frowned in surprise, “No, I don’t.”
Lucian sighed, rubbing the space between his eyes in tiredness, “I asked you to look into Elara Vaughn’s case.”
“Oh that! That’s right, I do have that to report to you!” Zach uttered, laughing nervously, while Lucian just glared at him.
“‘Oh that?!’” He mimicked, “You’re seriously not going to get your head on straight, right?”
Zach clasped his hands together, looking contrite as hell, “I’m sorry, sir.”
Lucian waved off his apology dismissively, “Just get on with it.” He looked up at him with his cold blue-gray eyes, “What did you find?”
Zach fished out his cellphone and placed it on the desk in front of Lucian,“I think it’s better if you see it yourself.” He uttered as he clicked on the screen before him.
He went straight to the gallery and started flipping through pictures, slowly showing them to Lucian.
They were pictures of Kurt Eugene and Vera Hale in intimate positions, in hotels, foreign countries on vacations, and even in the city.
They looked very much like a couple, and Zach made Lucian see the time stamp on the photos. Some of them were taken recently and some of them were taken before Elara died.
“Kurt Eugene was cheating with Vera Hale right before and even after her death,” Zach uttered, his voice cold, “The scumbag certainly did not respect her before or after her death.”
Lucian turned away from the pictures calmly and pushed the cellphone back to Zach, “This is not new.” He uttered calmly, “Is that all you got?”
Zach did a double take, “Wait…you knew about this all along?” He asked in wonder, then frowned in puzzlement, “Why then did you ask me to look into her death?”
Lucian gave him a flaming look, “Os this in any way related to her death?” He asked coldly, “Did she die from a broken heart or something?!”
Zach scratched his head, “Well…she could have….”
Lucian finally threw his hands up in exasperation, “For God’s sake, man, have you lost your touch or something?!”
Zach chuckled at Lucian’s outburst. “Relax, I was only pulling your legs.”
“Do you have a death wish?!”
His smile paled at once, “No, sir.” He answered solemnly, “Well, I certainly think this two are involved in her death, and this is quite enough proof.”
Lucian narrowed his eye, “How so?”
“Three days before and after her death, Kurt Eugene and Vera Hale were no where to be found in the city.” Zach explained, “They do have an alibi protecting them and their whereabouts but technically when Elara was kidnapped, they were supposed to call it in. They did not because they were not around. I don’t think that’s a coincidence, sir.”
