Chapter 73 Sinners
Chapter Seventy-Four
Kurt was at a loss of words himself, but he refused to back down before Lucian Graces.
He cleared his throat ominously, and straightened his jacket.
The fact that Elara Vaughn was dead , and he was almost now in her place, made him feel like he was at equal levels with Lucian Graves.
“Elara Vaughn. who used to look down on me previously, is not here.” He thought to himself gleefully, “You thought she was the only one worth noticing whenever we were together. Well, everything she has is mine now. Let’s see how you can be so disrespectful.”
He helped his head high and said, “Mr Graves, Mrs Graves. It was just an honest mistake when we barged in here. Why are you trying to make a big deal out of it?”
Lucian and Aria scoffed in derision simultaneously. Kurt, trying to pull off his confident aura was failing badly.
Kurt sensed their derision and his face flushed with anger. He gritted his teeth and pointed at them as he spoke, “Even though you’re the owners here, it’s just this shopping mall.” He uttered fiercely, “Stop acting like you own all of the shopping malls in Crestmont.”
He stopped, adjusting his jacket once more. Vera, seeing that Kurt was becoming more and more confident, quickly pulled herself ip and mustered up the cottage to speak.
She hooked her hand in the curve of Kurt’s arm, “You’re right, dear. It’s not like you own the shopping malls in the entire country. Stop acting so…”
“It doesn’t matter if we don’t own the shopping malls in the country,” Aria interrupted, making Vera bristle with annoyance, “What matters is that we are the owners of this one and you’re trespassing. Is that so hard to comprehend?”
“You!…” Vera was immediately angered, “Stop acting so cocky. Do you know who Kurt is?” She scoffed, then raised her head haughtily. “He’s soon going to be appointed as chairman of Vaughn Empire. How dare you look down on him? Do you know how many shopping malls the Vaughn Empire own?”
Aria’s face became rock hard at the moment, “Soon to be appointed?” She asked in an icy voice. She scoffed, “Stop deluding yourself, Kurt Eugene and Vera Hale. The Vaughn Empire would never belong to you, no matter how much you try.”
As she’d suspected, the board of Directors were stalling. They definitely thought Kurt was not qualified to be the Chairman and taking over Vaughn Empire affairs.
But knowing Kurt Eugene, he’d definitely try to use whatever method to make sure he’s appointed Chairman at the next shareholders meeting.
He’d probably try to bribe them or worse, have them taken out the way he’d done with her.
“Which means I have to hurry,” she muttered to herself, “There isn’t much time or Kurt Eugene would take over everything my parents and I built with our sweat. I cannot let that happen.”
Kurt had immediately gone red at Aria’s words. He wagged a thick finger at her as he yelled, “Are you done talking?!”
“It’d be in your best interests to keep your voice down, Mr Eugene.” Lucian uttered coldly, his eyes boring into that’s of Kurt’s, “You might want to save your yelling for when you’re being thrown out.”
Kurt could not believe what was just said to him, “Me? Thrown out!” He asked, pointing at himself as he laughed incredulously, “I am the Chairman of Vaughn Empire. Do you think you’d be able to bear the backlash if you, the Graves family, goes against us?!”
“You’re not yet appointed the Chairman, but yet you say it with so much confidence.” Lucian replied quietly, tucking his hands in his pockets.
Aria threw Kurt a dirty look, unable to help it. His audacity infuriated her.
Kurt shrugged, getting more and more raucous, the way he always was whenever he gets to confront his low self esteem.
“Why should I hide it when it’s something that’s sure to happen?” He uttered, laughing mockingly.
In his heart of hearts, he knew it was something that was not sure to happen, but he would die before he ever admitted that before Lucian Graves.
“Hmm. I don’t know Mr Eugene..” Lucian uttered calmly, “The way you speak, it’s almost as if you wanted Elara to be gone so you can be in her position.”
Suddenly, the entire room went cold.
Even Aria turned to look at Lucian in surprise at the words he said.
“Does he…does he know anything?” She thought in a wonder.
Kurt eyes had widened in shock.
He narrowed his eyes at Lucian trying to read him, but Lucian was as blank as a whitewall.
“Damn it, does this bastard know anything?” He thought to himself in a panic.
Even Vera had gone pale by his side.
The next second, Kurt quickly recovered, masking his reaction with a dismissive scoff.
“Mr Graves, I suggest you stop whatever it is you’re trying to insinuate,” he uttered, trying to sound indifferent but failing miserably, “Elara was my fiancée and I’d never tolerate any disrespect towards her or our love.”
Aria laughed, unable to keep the bitterness from spurting deep within.
“Your fiancée? Your love?” She asked in an incredulous tone. She laughed once more and Vera clenched her fists in anger, pissed behind measures at Aria’s reaction.
Her smile faded and her eyes grew darker as she continued, “Is that why her best friend is hanging all over you and you are so comfortable with it? How did your so called love for Elara die so quickly after her death?”
Vera immediately realized that she was still clinging to Kurt’s arm.
Dammit, Kurt had still not been appointed the Chairman of Vaughn Empire.
The plan was for Kurt to be the Chairman first, and then he’d slowly introduce her to society as his romantic partner, even getting married.
No one would be able to do or say anything to them then because Kurt would have all the power then.
But not now.
If word gets out that she was found in an intimate position with him, it would ruin their plans.
She quickly disengaged and pushed away from him, “Mrs Graves, what on earth are you insinuating? I’m innocent of whatever it is you’re trying to accuse me of.”
Aria smiled coldly, “The sinner runneth when no one pursues them.”
