Chapter 123 She Has To Go!
Chapter One Hundred And Twenty-Two
“What?!” Kurt’s jaw tightened with anger, “You can’t do that!”
Executive Director Evans arched an eyebrow at him. His smile was cruel, “Watch me.”
Kurt swallowed hard, his fists tightening all the more. He was breathing hard now and it was all he could do not to punch holes in the table before him out of anger.
He could not believe what he was hearing.
A probation was definitely going to ruin his plans! This was just another ploy of the board to get him out of the company!
Executive Director Evans went on when he saw that the message had sank in fully in Kurt’s head.
Of course, the fool would not be able to refute in the first place. He knew better than to try that.
“You will secure measurable recovery within sixty days, Mr Eugene.” He uttered, his authoritative voice leaving no room for argument.
“Exactly,” the other directors murmured, nodding their heads slightly in agreement.
Kurt looked from one to the other as the weight of what was happening finally began to dawn on him.
Director Alex leaned back on his chair, enjoying the look of extreme discomfort on Kurt’s face, as he added, “Revenue replacement, reputational repair, and strategic positioning. You Fail—”
“—and then we initiate a leadership vote.” executive Director Evans finished, looking round at the others as he spoke.
Not one of them said a word in disagreement.
Kurt exhaled slowly, as his eyes closed in defeat.
This was going to be tougher than he’d expected.
A leadership vote.
That meant removal.
He leaned forward, and said through gritted teeth, “You remove me now, this company destabilizes. You know that.”
“Please, Mr Eugene,” Executive Director Evans scoffed in disbelief, “You think too much of yourself.”
“I built the expansion channels. I know the battlefield!” Kurt went on heatedly, looking round at all of them, “This is my turf!”
The other shareholders watched him in disdain, some scoffing in disbelief while others thought he was plain ridiculous.
Everyone knew that he was only where he was today because of Elara’s help. Even with piggybacking on Elara’s success all this years, he still did not know squat about handling a conglomerate like the Vaughn Empire and it was very glaring.
He was not fit to lead them, and that was it.
But Kurt was oblivious to all that the board members was thinking at the moment.
He leaned forward, his eyes desperate no matter how much he tried to conceal it.
“Give me the window.” He said in an husky voice, “Give me one more chance. I’ll restore leverage.”
“Is this a joke, Mr Eugene?”
“I’ve never been more serious about anything in my life, Executive Director Evans,” Kurt uttered, his voice raw, “Just one more chance is all I ask.”
Executive Director Evans looked away from him, with calm disdain, and with the air of someone who had already made up their mind.
He stood up from his seat, and calmly buttoned up his jacket, “Sixty days,” the Chairman said, “No extensions.”
With those words, he strode out from the boardroom, accompanied by his guards.
Kurt remained in his seat, a rushing sound in his ears from anger.
One after the other, the other board members stood up from their seats and walked out of the room.
They moved in an unhurried fashion, holding their heads high and in an haughty manner when they walked past Kurt.
“This will be the end of him.”
“He’d better set things straight or he faces the wrath of the board.”
“We should just throw him out already. What on earth are we waiting for?”
“If only Elara had not brought him in…She was so smart yet so dumb in this aspect!”
“Don’t speak ill about the dead!”
As the last of the shareholders made their way out of the huge double door, an oppressive silence fell on Kurt.
He remained on his seat, his face a tight mask of fury, while his own nails made tiny half moons in his palms.
After a while, he exhaled slowly then stood up from his seat. He made his way to one of the huge floor to ceiling windows in the room, then looked down at the city below.
The skyline of the city of Crestmont was devastatingly beautiful. Far below him, the hustle and bustle of the occupants of the city could be heard.
Everyone was obviously going about their very mediocre lives, while he had to be the one to face such a situation.
“Why?!” He muttered to himself, rage boiling in him once more, “Just why?!”
He took a deep breath in an effort to control his emotions. When he finally opened his eyes once more, he was more composed.
Of course he knew the answer as to why things was this way.
It was Aria Beaumont and her interference, throwing spokes into his wheel of success, and setting things away from their original track.
Suddenly, his expression darkened, as he pulled out his phone.
He quietly dialed a number, then waited patiently for the person on the other end to pick up the call.
“Mr Eugene, how very convenient.” It was Nathan, “I was just about to reach out to you.”
“Aria Beaumont…” Kurt uttered calmly, his hands tucked deep within his pockets, “…she ruined my plans. She’s got to go, and I want it done fast.”
“Of course, Mr Eugene,” Nathan uttered, “We were only waiting for your agreement before we come up with something ourselves…Or did you have anything in mind?”
“Aria Beaumont has cost me my position in the Vaughn Capital Group,” Kurt went on, the muscles in his jaw ticking badly, “I want her to go through the same thing. Oh and also, I want Nexus Logistics back.”
