Chapter 25 Fury
Fury burned deep in my veins as I drove home. I stopped in front of the cramped apartment I rented for myself while here in Teran. Getting out of my car, I spotted lights in my room through the glass window. There was a shadow looming around. She hadn't left. I told her to leave before I left, but she was still in my house. I hurried up the stairs and made it to the door.
"I asked you to leave," I said with a frown, my eyes looking at my clothes she still had on. It was like she had no plans of leaving Teran after she came here without telling me. She came right to my school. This could literally blow my cover. I had no idea what she told them that allowed her to come see me.
"I wanted us to have one more time together before I left, but you took too long coming. It's almost 1:09 a.m., Zeev. Where have you been?"
Okay. I didn't have time for this right now. She had to leave. I walked past her to the room. I took a quick shower and changed into some fresh clothes.
"Are those bruises around your neck?"
"Go change out of those clothes. I will accompany you to Aetheria," I said, ignoring her question. It wasn't that important. Lanken had questions to answer the moment I stepped foot in Teran. It was like he didn't get the warning I gave last time.
He has been acting so foolishly. This was to be a discreet mission. And I wouldn't have any of them ruining this for me, especially now that I found Naomi. If she found out who I was, that meant my chances of healing from this curse would be close to nothing. She was my mate. She had no idea about it, neither did anyone in my family know about it.
Aside from that, I still had more digging into her background to do. I needed to know exactly who she was. She could be one of us or maybe something else, and she was hiding in Teran... maybe for protection or running away from something or someone.
These were the things I needed to look into before anything else. Also, I needed to keep Naomi close to me. I wanted her to start getting closer to me so that it wouldn't be hard in the future if something should happen.
"It looks like you have been going through something and hiding it. Are you seeing someone? The girl I met in your office or something else?"
"Something else."
She kept nagging. I didn't say anything as I drove to Aetheria and to her father's house.
"Don't make that mistake of coming to Teran without my notice. Else this thing between us..." I waved a finger between us, and her eyes widened, "...would be over."
She started yelling again, but I made a U-turn to the house. I shouldn't have said that to her, but I was too pissed to care right now. Everyone kept trying to ruin my plans. It was beginning to feel like they didn't want to see me heal.
"Where is Lanken?" I asked the moment I stepped into the living room. It was void of anyone. "Where did he go?"
"Did something happen?" My eyes moved to the stairs to see Fenrir. His name was Ian, but Fenrir was the one my father had chosen for him to use regularly since he was the last one of the house. He was naked, with only a white towel around his waist. And I couldn't miss the sweat dripping down his body.
There was definitely no change with this one. That's how he spent his time. Sex with anyone who cared.
"Where is he?"
"Well, I don't know. Some hunting or whatever. Know how much he likes that." He waved me off and walked back to his room.
I was not wrong after all. It was him yet again.
Just when I turned to go outside, I bumped into him. Blood was dripping down the side of his hands; the wound was already fading. His black hair was all messy with dry leaves in it. He shrunk back when he saw me. He opened his mouth to talk but received a punch instead. He stumbled to the ground and I followed him.
"You should stop what you are doing already if you do not want me to put a knife to your throat."
I didn't give him a chance to speak but continued to punch him until I felt arms around me, pulling me away from him.
"You should ask him why he keeps interfering with my work. There was a reason why you put me in charge and not him."
My father had his head down, a hand on his temple like he was already tired of us and didn't know what to do.
"You had to beat my son into a pulp because he went out there to do what you have been unable to do?" his mother lamented across the table. Her eyes were red from crying.
"Then tell him to stop interrupting."
My father didn't say much, neither did I stay back to hear what he had to say. I told him to take care of the situation; else, he would not like what would happen to his son when he tried that again.
When I reached school the next morning, the first thing I did was summon Naomi to my office. She had been trying to tell me something for the past few days, but I hadn't had the chance to talk with her. There was a knock on the door before it was opened from the outside.
She walked in with her hands behind her back, her eyes mostly on the floor. I immediately rose from my seat and joined her. My eyes immediately moved to the back of her head.
"You didn't tell me what happened to your head the last time you came here."
The plaster was already off her head and the spot looked like there was nothing there.
"I didn't see any reason to tell you that."
There she went again. I nodded and moved to lean against my table with my hands across my chest. She was getting more difficult as the days went by. I should start doing something to get her closer, else I was going to miss it all.
"You wanted to tell me something the last time we met. I was wondering what that was."
She visibly relaxed like I had just hit the nail on the head this time around. She looked up at me with pleading eyes.
"I was wondering if you could teach me how to fight."
Oh! I didn't expect that. But why did she want that? I had seen what she can do. She could literally use that against anyone who got in her way. Or was she trying to run away from that part of her? Didn't she want people to know about it? I didn't pry much into that, neither did I ask her the reason.
"Okay then. I will give you a schedule."
A smile broke across her face and she turned and ran away from the office.
This wasn't something I should be doing, given that it was not included in my mission here. However, she was the reason I decided to go to that school. I was only supposed to work as a spy and take information back to Aetheria, but Naomi made me stay back; hence, I was going to find out everything about her.
I stood behind the house, looking up at her window with nothing in mind to say nor do. I paced around for a while until I heard a door click at the front yard.
I tiptoed to the corner of the house. Someone was leaving her house—an older-looking woman. She was dressed in black. She gazed around like she didn't want anyone to see her. When she was sure of her environment, she darted out of the compound.
Was she staying with Naomi? Her mother? And where was she going at this time? It was almost midnight. I didn't waste any time as I followed behind her. She must be up to something. I was not going to miss this opportunity. It could be the gateway to what I was looking for. This could give me some clues about Naomi. And the fact that she was leaving the house at this time and acting so suspicious meant something.
