Chapter 27 The schedule
Naomi
He asked me a question, and I needed to answer him. He didn't come to class this morning, nor was he present during our training. I took my things out from the locker and changed out of my training attire. I decided to go to his office to check if he had come to school.
The door was locked. I tried the handle, and it opened. I saw him. He was slumped over his desk like he was sleeping. I didn't want to disturb him, so I decided to tiptoe back and let him sleep. He was probably tired.
"Naomi," he called, making my heart skip a beat. How did he know I was the one? I turned, and he was still lying on the desk.
"I can smell you, even from afar. Don't stand there and wonder how I knew you were the one."
He could even read my mind.
"Come over here and tell me what brought you to my office."
He sat up. I wasn't so sure, but it looked like he had contact lenses on. He ran a hand through his hair and looked at me.
"Did you come here to stare at me?" He stood up and started walking towards me.
"I came with regard to what I told you last time. You haven't given me a schedule yet, so I decided to come and check."
I needed to learn how to fight on my own, to use my human strength. I didn't want the other side of me to take over. I wanted to forget that something like that ever existed.
"Is it that urgent?" He smirked, adjusting the collar of his shirt. If only he knew how urgent and important that was.
He abruptly stopped. I looked up to see a twist in his face, like something was hurting him inside and he was trying to stop it.
"Is something wrong, Mr. Rex?" was the only thing I could ask.
"No... I'm..." He stumbled over his desk. He started breathing hard and clutching his chest. I ran over to him, but he raised his hand, telling me to stop right where I was.
"Don't come close, Naomi."
He started coughing, but I couldn't just stand here and watch him like that. "I'll go get help?" I said, turning to leave. This was not the first time I had seen him like this. What was happening to him? Was he sick? If so, why hasn't he gone to the hospital yet?
"Don't do that, Naomi. I'll be fine."
Looking at how pale he was turning, being all right was the least of what he was right now. He tried to move but was unable to take a step.
I rushed towards him without thinking and placed my hand on his lower back, trying to help him. And just like the last time this happened, he turned to face me, and all the paleness from his face disappeared. He looked like someone who hadn't been sick moments ago.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that."
I let go of him and stepped aside, ignoring the strange sensation I felt the moment my hand made contact with his skin.
His eyes remained on me as though he wanted to ask me something.
"Could you please touch me the way you did?" I gave him a skeptical look, but my body willed me forward, and I did. I placed my hand on his lower back. He took a deep, satisfying breath, like that touch had healed some part of him that was hurting. I had to quickly step back when I felt that strong pull, just as I did at first.
I left his office after he told me he was going to give me a schedule tomorrow.
I watched my grandmother as she ate off her plate. I wanted to tell her about what happened with Teacher Rex today, the feeling I had when I touched him. But I knew that was going to fall on deaf ears, so I didn't even go through with it.
"How are school and work going?" She placed her spoon in her plate and looked at me, giving me all her attention as if she wanted nothing but the truth.
"Everything is going on just fine, Ma'am. Nothing to worry about." She gave me an unsure look before resuming her eating.
We ate in silence. I washed the plates before going to bed to ease my work the next morning. Ma'am told me she had an early shift today. I didn't see her when I woke up to start preparing for school.
I took my bath and got dressed. I started off to school with the hopes that Mr. Rex must have made a schedule for me. I really wanted this. I wanted my physical strength to be able to fight and defend myself from people like Calix. I truly needed this.
I reached campus and started to make my way to class when I heard it.
"It was taken to the lab, but it disappeared."
"Maybe it transformed into a human and ran out of the lab."
What were they talking about? I couldn't ask, so I made my way to class. If there was anything, I was going to hear about it there. I could ask Benita to tell me.
But I heard it before I could even enter the class. The werewolf they had secured last night had been taken away, although no official news had announced if it escaped or someone took it from there. But it was at Xylos, with tall and protected walls. How did it go missing? Something must be up, and they needed to investigate it.
I stayed put, waiting for Mr. Rex with my schedule. I would greatly appreciate it if he did this for me. I wouldn't hold back if anyone tried to come in my way and cause trouble.
I exhaled and waited. A lot of things had been on my mind, so much that I almost forgot to talk or ask questions about the person that had taken me away when the werewolves wanted to attack again.
What had the others think? When I suddenly left? Did Calix knknowbout it? She would have texted. She wasn't in school. Anyways, it was gping to stay like that. And who ever it was, I was surely going to find them someday. I suspecting that, it was thesame person who had the scent and those blue eyes. Hopefully they will get tired of the games they were playing and come to light. A few minutes later, Mr. Rex stopped in front of the classroom. I took noticed of the piece of white paper in hid hands. "I came with your schedule. Hopefully you will stick to it and we can get it done."
He walked into class and slammed it on my desk. I picked it up. My brows furrowed when I noticed the venue wasn't thesame as that of our usual trainings.
"We need a quiet environment with no distractions. That's why I choose that area."
He smiled at me for a long time before tapping his finger on my desk and walking away.
