Chapter 24

JANINE’S gaze lingered on Ken’s reflection in the mirror as the salon staff expertly attended to her hair. There was no denying that Ken exuded an air of sophistication and elegance.

His expensive suit accentuated his well-toned physique, and his features were strikingly handsome—sharp jawline, intense eyes, and a captivating smile that could make hearts skip a beat.

Seeing Janine’s captivated stare, Adelle couldn’t resist a playful tease. “Well, well, Janine. It seems you still have a soft spot for Ken, huh?”

Janine’s attention snapped back to Adelle, her cheeks flushing slightly. She shook her head, trying to dismiss the thoughts that had momentarily consumed her. “No, Adelle. It’s not like that. I was just...admiring his appearance, that’s all.”

Adelle raised an eyebrow mischievously. “Admiring, huh? Well, he certainly looks like a wealthy man. Maybe he’s trying to impress you.”

Janine sighed, her thoughts drifting back to why she had left Ken in the first place. The memories of his sexual obsession, the dark secret that had shattered their marriage, still haunted her. It was a part of him that she couldn’t accept, no matter how deeply she had once loved him.

“Adelle, it’s not that simple,” Janine replied, her voice tinged with sadness and determination. “There are reasons I walked away from Ken, and I can’t forget or ignore them.”

Adelle’s playful expression softened as she reached out and squeezed Janine’s hand. “I know, Janine. I understand that it wasn’t an easy decision for you. Just remember to stay true to yourself and what makes you happy. You deserve to be with someone who accepts and cherishes you for who you are.”

Janine nodded, grateful for Adelle’s support and understanding. “Thank you, Adelle. I appreciate your friendship and your words of wisdom. It’s just...seeing Ken like this stirs up conflicting emotions within me.”

As the salon staff finished their hair treatments, Janine caught Ken’s eyes again in the reflection. There was a fleeting moment of connection as if he sensed her gaze. A small smile played on his lips, but Janine quickly averted her eyes, a mixture of curiosity and caution swirling within her.

She knew that her encounter with Ken and the growing presence of Paulo in her life had the potential to complicate things further. But deep down, she couldn’t deny the spark that still flickered between her and Ken—a reminder of the passionate and complicated love they once shared.

Yet, she also longed for a stable future and a partner who would accept her completely. Someone like Paulo, who had shown her kindness, understanding, and a genuine desire to build something meaningful together.

Lost in her thoughts, Janine’s mind became a battleground of emotions and desires. And as she stepped out of the salon, her heart heavy with indecision, she knew that the path she would choose would shape her happiness and the lives of those around her.

AS Ken stepped out of the salon alongside Janine and Adelle, his gaze fell upon Janine’s radiant beauty.

The salon’s expert touch enhanced her features, accentuating her natural grace and elegance. Her silky hair cascaded down her shoulders, framing her face like a delicate veil. The soft glow on her skin made her appear ethereal as if she belonged in a dream.

Ken couldn’t help but reminisce about their time together in France when they were deeply in love as husband and wife. He recalled the intimate moments they shared, the stolen glances filled with affection, and the warmth of their embraces. The memories flooded his mind, tugging at his heartstrings with longing and regret.

But amidst the rush of nostalgia, Ken’s smile faded as he confronted the reality of their divorce. He couldn’t escape the truth that it was his flaws and sexual obsession that had driven them apart. The pain of their separation still lingered, a constant reminder of his shortcomings.

Lost in his thoughts, Ken was brought back to the present when he heard Janine’s voice calling his name. He blinked, focusing on her as she spoke.

“Adelle and I will take the taxi,” she said. “Thanks, by the way, for bringing us here. Send me the receipt and your bank account to transfer the cost.”

Ken shook his head. “I’ll drive both of you home. We don’t know what Paulo’s fans can do.” He could sense her hesitation, her desire to maintain a distance between them. However, e chimed in, expressing her eagerness to experience a ride in a sports car like Ken’s.

“Janine, please?” Adelle begged her friend. “It’s my dream to ride a car like this.”

A playful smile tugged at the corners of Ken’s lips as he considered Adelle’s request. He saw an opportunity to alleviate the tension and make Janine more at ease.

With a gentlemanly gesture, Ken extended his hand to Janine, a silent invitation for her to accept the ride. “Come on, Janine,” he said gently. “Let me give you both a lift. It would be my pleasure.”

Janine hesitated momentarily, her eyes searching his face for hidden motives. But in the depths of Ken’s eyes, she saw a flicker of genuine concern and a glimmer of the love they once shared. With a soft smile, Janine accepted his offer.

As they settled into the luxurious comfort of the sports car, the engine purred to life, and the vehicle effortlessly glided through the city streets.

At that moment, Ken vowed to himself that he would do everything in his power to win back Janine’s heart, to prove to her that he could change and become the partner she deserved.
