Chapter 20

The next day when I woke up, Chris was not beside me on my bed. We would sleep together at the night. Chris would not let me get out of his sight for a moment. He would always keep me by his side.

And it was understandable. A wolf, also his lover living in the vampire realm was not something that would make sense to the other vampires.

And once I was almost kidnapped by his friend. So, he did not want to take any risk.

Even if he would wake up before me, he would stay in the room waiting for me to get up.

Not finding a trace of him in the morning was a bit unusual for me. I was yawning and came downstairs to ask Felix where Chris went.

But when I came downstairs, I was struck. The person sitting in the hallway was the least I could expect.

"Liliana?" I asked surprisedly. I was not being able to fathom how she made it here this far and how could she find this castle alone.

"Rose!" She cried out my name and came to me running.

She hugged me tightly. "I thought something might have happened to you. I can't believe my eyes," she started sobbing.

I was still confused. I was never this close with her before. It was true that I came to this territory to save her but how could I forget that she was the one because of whom I got rejected. If it was not for Chris, my life would end the day she would get marked by Eris.

I pushed her away and asked frowning, “why are you here? Do even have any idea what you have done?"

Even though Chris would not lay his hands on her, numerous vampires would create devastation to get her.

"Eris said you were fine. But I just could not stop myself from coming. I was so worried about you! After all, you got caught because of me," she said sobbing.

"And what do you think you could do even if I was in danger? Are you capable of saving me from the vampires? Let alone saving me. You are a target yourself. Do you even have any idea what will happen if the other vampires get your smell?" I asked her angrily.

She kept sobbing without replying. I felt guilty. I shouldn't have talked with her so roughly.

"Liliana," I called her softly. “You should leave."

"I won't leave without you," she said crying.

"I cannot come with you. Whatever life I have gotten here is where I truly belong," I tried to make her understand.

"But if you say this, I will feel guilty the rest of my life," she pleaded.

"I know I have betrayed you. I have gotten closer to your mate, and you have probably felt that. But trust me, Roseanne! I am so ashamed of myself! I cannot forgive myself until you return to him," she said.

I was lost for words. I did not know how to even explain to her that it did not matter to me anymore. I had gotten over Eris a long time ago.

"Rose, Eris is suffering. I don't know why, but he doesn't love me anymore," she started sobbing again.

Her words suddenly hit my wolf hard. My wolf was getting impatient. Eris was still my mate. And the thought of getting back her mate was making my wolf excited.

"Liliana, listen! You are guilty or not, Eris love you or not, it doesn't have anything to do with me," I said boldly. I had to get the grip of my emotions. I could not listen to my wolf.

"Roseanne, please," she started begging. "This is not the life you want. Everything will be perfect again once you return to the academy. You are the Luna, Rose! You are the deserved one! I cannot take that position I am not worthy of. Besides, Eris does not love me anymore. He is coming back to get you back, Rose! Before something terrible happens, let me surrender here and you should go back to Eris. This is the only way to stop this war."

"What?" I was puzzled for a moment. Eris was coming back to get me? Like hell would go with him.

But if everything Liliana said was true, then the whole situation was about to get messed up. I needed to do something. I needed to talk with Chris.

Suddenly Felix entered the hall. He was not surprised by Liliana.

"Thank you so much for bringing me here to safety," upon seeing Felix Liliana hastily got up and bowed.

I was surprised. Felix brought her here? But how did she manage to contact him?

I was looking at Felix for an explanation.

He read my face. While keeping the teas and snacks on the table he started explaining.

"This lady here dared to cut her hand near the border. As she is of noble blood, the smell of her blood attracted all the vampires. Everyone started to lose themselves. Since I had an encounter with my lady and this woman here before. I could identify her right away. And before anyone else could make a move I brought her here in this palace. Currently, no one had any idea where this woman was, but I believed it would not take long for the other vampires to find out. And when that happens, the internal war among the vampires will be inevitable. Also, the vampires are not aware of what kind of relationship my lord is sharing with my lady. If it gets revealed that my lord is having a romantic relationship with a wolf, it will cause him to lose his reign of thousand years," he stopped finally.

I could tell clearly from his expression that Felix was against this relationship. He was a loyal servant of Chris. He had devoted his life to Chris's well-being. He would not allow even a scratch to his life.

I looked at Liliana. What did she want? Surrendering? Did she not know that such an act would cause the wolves to get destroyed by the vampires?

For now, I could only rely on Chris. And I had no idea where he was.
