Chapter 206 Just Right

Chapter 206 Just Right
Laurette’s POV

“Is it too much?”  I stand in front of the mirror, holding my hair up to examine the make up on my face, although my question is directed towards Frankie, who is typing away on her phone from her spot on the bed.
She lifts her eyes to glance at me, a pleased look making its way to her face.

“What do you mean ‘too much’?! It’s barely there and it’s perfect.”

I release my hair, letting it fall down to the middle of my back as I let out a sigh. “You’re the one who told me that going all out was fine sometimes.”  I waddle back to the bed, tired and spent from running around preparing and gathering stuff for my weekend with Hosea since the crack of dawn.

“Yea, sometimes”. Frankie turns to face me as my ass hits the bed, her hand coming up to swipe a piece of hair from my forehead. “But you don’t really need it though. You’re perfect.”

I bend my lips in a pout, and I can feel myself getting emotional at how genuine her words feel. She rolls her eyes at my reaction, pulling her hand away. I grab her before she can climb off the bed, pulling her into a warm hug and pressing a kiss to her cheek, to which she scrunches up her nose.

I was wearing one of the dresses Hosea got me, that I really liked. It was a sleeveless burgundy a-line dress that complimented my skin tone incredibly— according to Frankie— meanwhile, the black dress Hosea had asked me to bring along rested neatly folded inside the four corner tote I was carrying.

“What time is he coming to pick you up?”  Frankie asks, looking me over.

“Five”. I lift my wrist to glance at the vintage gold watch Frankie had lended me, after scolding me for even attempting to wear a smart watch with my outfit. The time was currently about fifteen minutes to, shocking me to a gasp.

“What’s wrong?”  Frankie jerks as well, concerned eyes looking me over.

“I have just fifteen minutes to get ready!”  I panic, pushing off the bed and frantically looking around me for what else needs doing.

“What— you ARE ready.”  Frankie sits up on her knees, watching me loose my mind. “Is there anything you think you’re missing?”

I manage to keep myself in one spot enough to think, my finger poking my chin before I shake my head. “There might be. But none that I remember for now.”

“Ugh, you’re acting like it’s the first time you’re meeting him”. Frankie falls back unto the bed with a sigh, grabbing her phone again.

“It always feels that way. For some weird reason.” I lift the back of my palm up to feel my cheek, even as heat spreads through me at the mere mention of his name.

I hear Frankie snicker behind me and turn to her, although her face is hidden behind her phone as she types away on it. “The weird reason is that your boyfriend is insanely attractive. So much so that you absolutely cannot get used to it.”

“I guess so.”  I agree, smoothing my dress.

At exactly five pm, a text illuminates my phone from Hosea asking if I was ready. The smile that takes over my face is embarrassingly wide. His next message comes in, informing me that he’s outside and I’m grabbing the two bags I’m making use of and heading out in a flash.

I had managed to cook up some stories for mom to let me off this weekend, although I’m particularly grateful that she isn’t home to see me leave in this dress. Frankie calls out her goodbye to me from the bedroom, and I respond in a haste as I push the front door open.

My steps are halted immediately at the sight that awaits me on the street, lips parting in surprise as I take in the shiny black vehicle parked in front of my house. A black convertible, one of the most recent models from the looks of it, sits menacingly in the middle of the street, and Hosea leans against the passenger door watching me.

I don’t know why I never imagined that Hosea might be interested in other means of getting around other than bikes. And I dare say this was more fitting, even though he seemed to be more in his element on bikes.

“Well… shit”. Frankie’s voice so close behind me startles me from my spot on the door, causing me to stumble forward a few steps. She gives a busted smile when I turn to glare at her, but waves me forward towards Hosea.
I take a few slow steps towards him, feeling the tingling in my stomach erupt just by the sight of him. The tingling soon graduates to fireworks the moment he smiles, reaching his hand out to grab me and pull me the rest of the way.

“You look amazing”. He mumbles, shoving his face into my neck. “Smell amazing too. I’m certain you taste amazing.”  He comes up instantly and presses his lips to mine, his hands moulding the skin of my waist.
I arch against him, stroking his cheek with my fingers and parting my lips for him.

He grunts against my lips, just as the sound of the door shutting closed rises behind me. Freaking Frankie.

Hosea leans back, lips a little swollen already from caressing mine continuously. “Come on, let’s go”. He opens the door for me and ushers me in, resting a palm against the top of my head .
The inside of the car feels like I’m riding in a pocket of open sky, with the sun warming my cheeks and breeze blowing through my locks. I let a content smile pull at my lips even as Hosea climbs into the driver’s side.

“Where are we going?”  I blurt out before he even settles, excitement rushing through me.

He starts the car and releases the wheel, leaning closer to me instead and reaching his hand around my frame. I watch with bated breath in expectation of what he might want to do, but I bite my lips when he simply clicks my seatbelt and leans back into his seat.

“You and your never ending questions.”  He teases, pulling into the main street and zooming off.

The first stop Hosea makes is a beautiful building with tall stone sculptures on either side of it.
I don’t marvel enough at the beauty of the outside before Hosea pulls me in, and shows me just how pretty the inside is.

It has to be the most beautiful restaurant/lounge I have ever seen.
The man who comes to attend to us seems particularly familiar with Hosea even as he leads us to our table.

“It’s beautiful here”. I muse as I settle into the seat Hosea pulled out for me. “And it’s our first date”. I smile, holding his eyes. And as he returns my smile, I can’t help but notice the glint of sadness that covers his eyes for the half of a second before he blinks it away.
