Chapter 205 Rational State of Mind
Chapter 205 Rational State of Mind
Hosea’s POV
“I’ve not really been one to oppose, but what part of Viktor’s brain thinks it wise to start a full blown bloodbath in the name of ending the rivalry?” Xi ponders aloud, leaning against the edge of the boxing ring at the gym.
Ever since Don relayed his assignment from Viktor to us, it has been hard coming to terms with it and ignoring how impractical it sounds.
“The irrational part. Which is basically the whole part”. Malik grumbles in response to Xi’s question, his hair falling around his face as he leans forward on his knees, sweat dripping from his face. We just finished having a test match in the ring. Me and him.
I wipe my own sweat with the towel hung on my neck, filling my lungs with air. “The worst part is that they’re gonna leave all the hard and dirty work to us. So basically, we’re the ones wiping out the Shadows when the time comes.”
“But why seek to wage war all of a sudden?” Xi frowns. “This has never happened before. And it’s clearly gonna be a huge fucking mess.”
“Something might’ve happened to bring him to that decision.” Malik says, standing to his feet. “But as usual, he doesn’t deem us fit to hear anything about it.”
“The Shadows go beyond just Damian. And if Viktor wants to start a war then we need reinforcements. We can’t step on the tail of an entire gang and have to face them alone. Besides there’s no way Raphael would sit still and let something happen to what he has built all these years.”
“We can’t do it.” I deadpan, barely letting Malik complete his sentence. He pauses, frowning in confusion.
“What?”
“I mean, yea we can’t…”. Xi pushes off the wall, nodding in agreement, although my point is still hanging over his head. “It’s literally just us against them there’s no way—”
“Scratch that. We won’t do it. Not that we can’t. But we won’t.”
This mission, whatever may be the reason behind it, is stupid. And could potentially wipe out the entire Roadboys before we even know it. Malik sighs, exchanging a blank look with Xi before turning to me.
I wait in anticipation of their protests, and attempts to talk sense into me. But to my surprise, Malik places his hands on his waist and pins me with an attentive look. “What do you have in mind?”
I draw a slow, deep breath, leaning forward in my seat and clasping my hands on my knees. “We could try the easiest way. Talking to him.”
“Talking?? To Viktor?” Xi echoes with a scoff, turning around on his feet. “Yea, hard pass. No way that’s gonna do anything.”
“You know how hard it is to get even a moment with Viktor. Let alone getting him to listen to you.” Malik says flatly, clearly not a fan of the idea. But the worst is yet to come.
“Which gives way to the next option, which is to defy him.” I lift my shoulders and drop them, waiting for their reactions. Meanwhile, they both stare at me patiently, as if waiting for a punchline, or for me to say I’m joking.
When nothing comes, Malik lets out a low scoff, regarding me with amusement in his eyes, which is somehow worse to me than the blank look he gave me earlier. “Defy him, you say? Need I remind you what happened the last time that happened?” He cocks a brow as my head falls into my hands momentarily.
How could I forget?
“If we go ahead with this mission we’re all gonna die anyway. It’s best we choose the easier way.”
“We’re not dying at all.” Malik counters sharply, seeming frustrated already. “At least I’m not.”
There is a snarky comment at the tip of my tongue in response to his words, but I shove it down on a second thought. But he’s right. We’re not dying at all. Whether we go through with the mission or not.
But that said, we have a long way ahead of us.
“We need to figure something out and fast.” Don’s only in town for a few more weeks, and I assume he might want to be done with his “assignment” before leaving.
Just then, my phone vibrates beside me on the bench, and I’m surprised when I pick it up to find that it’s a message from Don. My eyes dances over my screen, reading the words that I struggle to register at first, but once I do, it has me gritting my teeth so hard I hear it crack.
‘I might need that chick’s services faster than I thought kid. Send her over when you can’.
I turn off my phone and toss it across the bench like a plague, not minding the confused stares the boys give me.
I would cut off Don Vito’s dick and make him choke on it before ever letting him anywhere near my girl.
