Chapter 201 Mission Impossible

Chapter 201 Mission Impossible
Hosea’s POV

The sight awaiting me as I stroll into the living room is the least I ever expected to find, and also the most scary.

“Hey there, Kid”. Don Vito greets me with a nod, standing with his hands shoved into his pockets in the middle of my living room. A few feet away from him, Laurette rests on the single ottoman on the other side of the living room, staring between us with silent curiosity.
I bring my hands down to my sides and fist them to hide their shaking, my teeth gritting to powder.

Don juts his chin towards my right hand, the one holding my phone. “I see your phone’s still working. Rang you so much last night and got no response I thought you were mugged. Good to see you’re still alive.”

I did wake up to several missed calls from him, but it would be foolish to admit that I was deep inside the girl beside him all through last night, and I most likely wouldn’t have answered his calls even if I saw them.

“I was quite… occupied.”  I train my throat to a swallow, not having many words.

Don nods, sending a glance beside him, towards Laurette, who was now staring squarely at me. I look away from her, meeting Don’s eyes.

“I can see that.”  He says, lips pulling up in a  lopsided smile. Then he raises a brow and glances from her to the door, and I immediately grasp what he means. But I also see the huge escape.

Don doesn’t know who Laurette is.

This isn’t the first time that he would come over and see a girl in my living room, even though they aren’t very many.
But he’s probably assuming that Laurette is simply one of them. Which is perfect for me, as it is a way of protecting her by making her seem completely irrelevant to me.

My eyes pan over to Laurette, who is still clearly oblivious to what is happening, or what is about to happen. But I decide that I would have to explain it to her later, why I am about to treat her like a commercial slut.

“Time’s up, hussy. Time to go.” I call out, walking over to her. The confusion in her eyes is unclouded. She parts her lips to speak, but I beat her to it, before she busts the act. “I’ll send the payment for the night before noon. Text me your details.”

Laurette slowly rises to her feet with furrowed brows, a disbelieving laugh leaving her lips. “But—”

“Grab your things and get the fuck out. You have ten minutes.”  I rake my hands through my hair, pulling her towards the bedroom.

My eyes flit to Don, who is watching the scene with less than interested eyes and seems to be more interested in the dust on his shoes than what is happening.

Laurette thankfully follows me silently, even as I shove her into the hallway. I turn my back on her, but don’t walk back into the living room until I hear the door shut.
I walk in to find Don whistling lowly while he interests himself with the intricate designs of my furniture. He doesn’t even turn to confirm my presence before he speaks.

“Still all alone in this big ass apartment. Thought by now you’d have a chick.”  He drawls, his voice having a permanent taunting lilt to it. “I don’t blame you for having randoms over though. It can get pretty lonely at times, can’t it?”

At my prolonged silence, he looks over his shoulder at me, coughing out a laugh. I walk into the kitchen and grab two glasses, stopping by the minibar to get something strong for us to drink. Then I make my way over to the couch opposite him and take a seat, feeling like I’m hung over the edge of a cliff.

“I didn’t know you’d be back so soon”. I start, ignoring his question while I pour him a glass of whiskey and slide it over before pouring myself one. “I would’ve made proper preparations with the boys to receive you.”

“That would do me no good.”  He retorts, kissing his teeth and relaxing into the couch with a grunt. “The boys would have figured it out by now.”

I assume his earlier comment is his way of insinuating his displeasure with being back in this town. But that isn’t anything new.

“Still, it’s only right that we give you the welcome you deserve. It has been a while after all”. I relax into my own couch, waning beneath the sting of his cold gaze.

“I’m here on a mission, Kid. You know I never come to play around in this shit hole.”  He grabs his glass and downs a few big gulps, grimacing as it burns down his throat. His tattooed sleeve peaks beneath his jacket as he places the glass back on the table. “Viktor sent me.”

That CANNOT be good.

“Does it have to do with the supplies?”  I ask, internally praying that I’m correct. Although I know if I were to be, then this meeting would’ve been over a call. For Don to be here then it must be a pretty serious mission.

He shakes his head, just as I expected, but just before he speaks, the sound of a door opening grabs our attention. The sound of footsteps carry from the hallway, until Laurette emerges from the dark, fully dressed and ready to go.
Her eyes meet mine, and for a while it feels like time stops. She thins her eyes, as though trying to read mine, then heaves a sigh when she sees nothing.

I watch her cross the living room in slow steps, until she walks out the door. My eyes immediately search for my phone, fingers aching to send her a quick message. But then I look up and see the look that Don is giving me, and I forget all about it.

“That one’s a pretty good catch, eh? Must’ve been a steamy night.”  He laughs, taking his glass up for a drink. “I might have to make use of her services one of these days, before I head back. The girls over at Borlem are…”. He shakes his head, clicking his teeth in disapproval.

I couldn’t care less about the girls over at fucking Borlem. I couldn’t care less about anyone at the moment because my blood is boiling up to my brain slowly at the mere thought of Don even laying a finger on Laurette.

There is no way I’m letting him live long enough to do that. I would kill him before he even breathes in her direction.

“You wouldn’t enjoy her. Too slow”. I say through gritted teeth, fisting my hands beneath the table where he can’t see. I’m leaving this house the second he leaves to find Laurette and apologize to her. I can barely breathe as it is.

Don barks out a laugh, emptying his glass with a few gulps. Then he sighs and leans back, “The mission is to end this scuffle with the Shadow monkeys.”  He rasps. “For good.”
