Chapter 34 The hell begins
Chapter 34 The hell begins
David,
Right after I disconnected the mind-link with Lady Thorne, I slipped into the dungeon where Jennifer had been taken. The situation had gotten out of control last night when she tried to say something about what happened ten years ago.
My Lady already suspected that Jennifer had played an important role in the incident involving her family. Her sudden appearance right after the tragedy had raised too many questions to be a coincidence.
As I hid behind the stone wall, my attention went to the flickering shadow of a person. Jennifer, who had been quietly sitting on the floor, suddenly stood up with a burning expression. Her jaw tightened, nostrils flared, and her eyes gleamed with defiance.
" What are you doing here? Came to pity me or blame me for everything?" Her voice shook slightly under the weight of her rage, though she tried to sound fearless.
" How many people have you been sleeping with behind my back?"
My eyes narrowed the moment I recognized the voice. Former Alpha King, Alpha Brightblade. He was here for her?
" Why do you care? Do you think I would wait for you forever?" Jennifer shot back, her lips curling into a bitter smirk. " You kept me as your secret while parading that woman as your Luna. I was never your priority!"
" Is this why you slept with Klint?" His tone grew sharp, filled with restrained fury. " Why him, Jennifer? You could have gone to anyone else. Klint knows everything!"
" So what?" Her voice dripped venom. " Since you let your woman expose me, I will expose every secret you have been hiding. I want to see how long you survive when the truth comes out."
" What are you talking about?" His voice dropped low, warning in every syllable. " Don't do something stupid if you want to stay alive."
" I will die if I have to. I don't care anymore. But I’ll make sure I drown you all with me before I go." Her eyes gleamed wetly, tears mixing with fury.
" Jennifer, don’t test my limits." His jaw clenched, and he ran a hand through his hair in frustration. " My Luna is already furious with you. If you cross that line again, you might die."
" Death is better than the humiliation she gave me!" Jennifer spat, her fists trembling. " Do you think I’ll let her go that easily? She should have known who she was messing with."
" Jennifer!" His voice rose, echoing through the stone corridor. " If you don’t pull yourself together, don’t blame me for being harsh. Let it go. I’ll help you leave the pack and settle somewhere no one knows you."
" Don’t you dare," she hissed, her voice trembling with anger. " It’s time for you to acknowledge the elephant in the room!"
His expression darkened. " Shut up, Jennifer. Keep your mouth shut and do whatever you want."
He slammed the cell door shut, the sound vibrating through the dungeon. Two guards stepped forward as he turned sharply toward them.
" Take care of her. Make it a suicide."
He didn’t even lower his voice. The words were loud enough to make Jennifer freeze.
" What are you doing?" she screamed, slamming her fists against the bars. " You bastard! How dare you order them to kill me! Let me go, you piece of filth!"
The guards exchanged a quick glance but showed no hesitation. They moved toward the door with slow, deliberate steps, their faces empty of emotion.
" Move away! Don’t come near me!" Jennifer’s voice cracked as she backed into the corner. Tears rolled down her cheeks, leaving streaks on her dirt-covered skin.
The guards ignored her. One of them chuckled darkly. " Look at you," he said, his tone dripping with mockery. " Even as a middle-aged woman, you still have that charm that drove men crazy. I wonder if we could satisfy your desires before you die."
They began to lock the cell from inside, removing their uniforms piece by piece.
I glanced toward the other cells, but they were empty. It was clear now that the Alpha King had sent her here to be silenced.
" Don’t touch me!" Jennifer growled, her wolf spirit flickering in her eyes. A low snarl escaped her throat, but the guards didn’t care. One of them pulled a silver dagger from his belt, the blade glinting in the dim light.
The other reached for her shirt, gripping the fabric roughly.
That was when I moved.
The door splintered under my kick, flying open with a violent crack. The guards froze, their hands still mid-motion. The smell of fear spread quickly.
" Who are you?" one of them growled, his voice shaking slightly as he turned toward me.
I didn’t answer. My hand shot forward, twisting his neck with a sharp snap. The other barely had time to gasp before I slammed his head into the wall, leaving his body motionless on the ground.
Jennifer’s breath hitched. Her face went pale, lips trembling uncontrollably. Her eyes widened so much they looked as if they might burst from their sockets.
I stepped toward her, my boots echoing against the wet floor. The air grew heavy with the scent of blood.
" N-No... Don’t come near me. Don’t kill me," she whispered, her voice breaking.
" Kill you?" I let out a low laugh, leaning closer until my breath touched her face. " How could I kill you when you’re so valuable to my Master?"
Her pupils dilated. " Master? Who... who is it? Klint? Did he send you here?"
I smirked and grabbed her hair, forcing her head up. " Klint? He’s nothing but a pitiful fool."
Her face drained of color when my grip tightened around her jaw. She gasped, her nails scratching at my wrist in a desperate attempt to break free.
Before she could utter another word, I slammed her head against the wall. The impact made her knees buckle, and a weak cry escaped her lips.
" You will obey if you want to live," I said coldly. " Remember, if I can save you, I can also crush you like an insect."
She trembled violently, tears streaming down her bruised face as she nodded. Her shoulders shook, and a faint whimper escaped her throat.
I dragged her out of the cell, her body limp and trembling. " Don’t worry," I muttered, tightening my grip around her arm. " Nobody will ever find out what happened to you."
Her eyes fluttered shut just before I struck the back of her neck. She went still, unconscious.
I lifted her over my shoulder and glanced once more at the bodies on the ground.
The hell had just begun for Jennifer.
