When I walked out of the shop with the cloth, Austin was still stunned.
After turning to his senses, he asked Manager Lee, "What just happened?"
Manager Louis looked at Austin ruefully and said, "It was the General Manager of Chinese district. He just said give the guy anything he wants, even if it's the whole store. Austin, fortunately, he was not pissed."
Austin shivered and asked in a frightened voice, "He didn't actually call the founder of JQK, did he?"
Manager Louis took a long breath and said, "He definitely did. I just remembered that Joe Walker seemed to be the code name of the JQK founder Walter Wright when he was in the special troops."
On one hand, Austin was astonished and terrified. On the other, he was gladly relieved since the guy didn't bother to make trouble. Otherwise, he would have been doomed.
After I left the clothing store contently, Joe called to see whether I was satisfied with how it went.
We had a few idle words and fished the call.
Joe and I had been in the same group went undercover, but he had been exposed and had paid the price of a leg to get out. To save his life, I had pulled some strings and had almost exposed my identity as well.
Therefore, he was especially grateful to me. He would do his best to get anything for me, even if it's the stars in the sky as long as I asked for it.
I didn't intend to trouble Joe at first, but Emelia especially liked that dress.
No matter what she liked, I would get it for her.
With the present, I arrived at Emelia's university on my scooter. I had a look at the time, it was still another half an hour until it finished.
With a smirk on my face, I thought Emelia must be delighted when she sees the gift.
Hum, hum, hum...
The phone started buzzing in my pocket. Suddenly, the smile on my face disappeared and shift into an exhausted look.
I knew who was calling even without pulling the phone out of my pocket.
It was my satellite number buzzing, of which only a handful of people knew.
There are things you have to face sooner or later, right?
I'd been worrying about it lately.
Heaving a deep sigh, I pulled out the phone, picked it up, and spoke first, "Hey, Dec."
A man's voice roared through the line from the other side, "People in the Dragon Group, they either call me Director Hart or Declan Hart, you are only bastard who call me Dec."
I laughed embarrassedly and said, "What are you ringing me for?"
Declan calmed down and asked in a deep voice, "How does it feel to make a comeback? Does it feel awesome?"
I took a deep breath of fresh air, looking up to the clear blue sky and said, "Fucking awesome!"
"You sound to be in a good mood?" Asked Declan with a sneering laugh.
"Of course."
Declan was quiet. A sudden pain struck my heart, but I said obstinately, "Just say it. I've already figured some out."
Declan said in a solemn tone, "Some remainders fled away."
Although it was not far from my guess, hearing it said personally from Declan made my face change.
When I was being silent, Declan said earnestly, "Also, since you're disappeared, many people think you betrayed Peter. So, for the time being, try to keep a low file, understand?"
I pulled out a pack of cigarettes with my trembling hand and lit up one smoke. Having nicotine filled in the mouth, I asked in a shaky voice, "What price is the bounty?"
"7. 5 million dollars. Just for uncertain information."
7. 5 million dollars... I muttered self-mockingly and then had a bitter laugh. I didn't know I was worth that much.
I had just been gone for a while, the bounty offered at Burma and the border was already up to 7. 5 million dollars. I couldn't imagine how much would it soar up to later on. 15 million dollars? Even 150 million dollars?
It was possible!
My betrayal to Peter had violated the interests of so many people. If they had known I was still alive, they would have me skinned alive.
"I see," said I weakly, as if I had lost all my strength in one second.
"Don't worry too much! I still have eyes and ears undercover in Burma, and I'll try to suppress your information. Just keep it low in D City. If it doesn't work, come hide in the Dragon Group. I'd hire you as a coach at high-price!" said Declan quite seriously.
"We'll see! I'm in a bit of trouble right now. " I said and I pursed my lip, staring ahead.
I hung up the call before Declan could say anything.
A police car pulled up in front of me, from the car walked off two young men in police uniforms. The two officers came up to me and said righteously, "Are you Jayden Hunter? You are now suspected of being involved in an assault. Please cooperate with our investigation!"
After these words being said, my hands were grabbed and handcuffed.
I did not resist but obey the law. At the same time, I knew it was Leonard Duncan's revenge.
"Would you please wait a little bit longer?" I asked.
"No!" said one police officer sternly. "You have no right to ask for this, let alone try to resist."
"My sister is finishing school. I want to talk to her. She's coming out in 5 minutes. Would you please wait for a little?" I begged.
"Quit that shit. Hurry up and put him in the car!" said the one driving the car impatiently.
At six thirty.
At the front gate of Denton University.
Surrounded by the indifferent gazes of the crowd, Emelia walked out the gate alone, looking around.
Where is Jayden? Emelia frowned and thought.
Jayden came to pick her up every day. He would at least texted her if he's not coming.
Emelia thought Jayden was maybe busy with something. She didn't think too much and headed home.
But she was dumbfounded as soon as she got to the alley on the way home.
She saw Jayden's scooter parked right there.
Emelia pulled out her phone and called Jayden's number only to find out it was shut off.
She started to get worried. Did something bad happen to him?
Emelia waited by the scooter. About ten minutes later, Jayden still didn't show up.
She was to so worried about Jayden that her eyes turned red. She stood there biting her lips, looking a bit overwhelmed.
"Emelia." A faint voice called her name at that time.
Emelia looked back and turned pale with fright. She staggered back and asked, "Leonard, what are you doing here?"
With four or five people behind him, Leonard walked towards Emelia. He took a meaningful glance at the scooter and said with a smile, "You have no idea?"
"Of what?" Emelia asked stiffly.
Leonard laughed coldly and said, "Jayden Hunter hit me, so now he's in the police station as a matter of course."
A pain struck Emilia's heart. She had been right. On Leonard's birthday, Jayden must have beaten them up in the room.
"I'm sorry." Emelia bowed her head and apologized to him, with tears in her eyes.
Leonard lustfully sized up Emelia's voluptuous figure and said coldly, "The deputy director of the police office is my uncle. Jayden Hunter's life is in my hand. I've told him that he would only lose if he fights against me, but he didn't listen at all!"
Emelia bit her pink lips and said nervously, "Can you let my brother go, please?"
Leonard said indifferently, "I'll let him go only if you do one thing for me."
