Chapter 177 Unusually High Number of Accidents
Charlotte blinked, not understanding how the topic suddenly got back to herself. Under Jason's focused questioning gaze, she replied flatly, "No. Yvonne told me this."
Her answer did not satisfy Jason.
Her initial questioning went unanswered.
As the night breeze blew once again, Charlotte rubbed her arms and looked inside, taking the initiative to say, "I'll tell Mrs. Lloyd that I'll leave now."
Jason followed her footsteps and walked in, indifferently saying, "Just follow me if you feel burdened."
"Okay."
Just after seeing Bonnie, Jason took the initiative to make an excuse, "Mrs. Lloyd, we have something on at the company. Charlotte and I will go back to deal with it now."
Bonnie was full of regret. "Is it so urgent? The banquet has just started."
"Yeah. Since you and Mr. Lloyd will be staying in the country for a long time, there will be many opportunities to meet. There is no rush." Jason was polite and courteous.
Bonnie couldn't really force him and Charlotte to stay and could only nod and let them go.
Charlotte said to Silas apologetically, "Mr. Hoyce, I'm afraid I'll have to leave you alone here."
"It's fine. I was supposed to come over." Silas was quite generous and didn't take it to heart at all, smiling at Charlotte. Afraid that she would feel pressured, he comforted her, "I also have to thank you for giving me a chance to redeem my image in front of Mrs. Lloyd."
The two of them were talking and smiling as they said their goodbyes. Jason's face was already darkened and gloomy while he was waiting aside.
The company, of course, had no urgent business. Charlotte watched the car drive in a familiar direction and casually asked, "If we go straight back now, aren't you even afraid that Mrs. Lloyd will investigate it and discover the truth?"
Jason replied unconcernedly, "Only my grandpa will investigate."
The implication was that there was no need to worry at all.
Charlotte stared at the road ahead and pursed her lips as she agreed, "But I suppose they don't have the time to do so. They're probably busy planning your marriage to Ms. Lloyd right now."
Jason didn't say a word, but the car's speed slowly dropped as it slowly stopped at the side of the road.
Charlotte got nervous for no reason and turned her head to look at him. "Mr. Langley?"
"Charlotte, I sometimes wonder if you really understand Porenian." Jason sidled over while looking into her eyes. "I've said more than once that I won't marry Stella. Did you just not listen at all? Or are you testing me? If I agree to marry Stella, you'll feel more righteous to be with Silas, right?"
He pressed her aggressively. It seemed as if Charlotte was at fault.
Charlotte was rendered speechless for a split second. She knew well that it was the inexplicable feeling of uneasiness that had been urging her to double-check.
She softened her tone and apologized, "Mr. Langley, I was just joking. I'll apologize if you're upset by this."
Since she had a softened attitude, Jason couldn't vent his anger.
Only after a long time did he sigh and say, "Charlotte, what do you really want?"
In order to keep her, he thought he had already conceded a lot.
Charlotte didn't reply. If she directly said she wanted him now, would she have to hand in her resignation tomorrow?
Jason looked like he wasn't expecting her answer either. Turning off the engine and unbuckling his seatbelt, he directly seized her jaw and viciously nibbled on her lips as punishment.
The narrow car was filled with the sound of lips and tongues intertwined, but both of them were in a state of turmoil, more like venting their dissatisfaction with each other than just making out.
By the time Charlotte reacted, the clothes on her body had already been completely stripped off by Jason.
She reluctantly reminded him, "Mr. Langley, Mrs. Lloyd gave me this dress. I'll have to return it to her."
"Get another set if it's broken." Jason had no time to pay attention to these minutiae and directly pressed Charlotte onto the seat, lust rising in his eyes.
Charlotte was shocked by what he was doing. Worried that he would go too hard and hurt the baby as well as the fact that her pregnancy would be exposed, she panicked and brushed him off, "Let's go back first."
The more she refused, the more furious Jason's movements became.
Feeling his raging anger, Charlotte was completely flustered and hurriedly appeased, "Mr. Langley, what did I do wrong?"
Jason stopped his movements for the moment and looked at her condescendingly.
Charlotte seized this gap and pulled away slightly, "I'm really feeling quite unwell right now. If I did something wrong, I'm sorry."
It was safer not to confront Jason head-on at times like this.
Jason's Adam's apple bobbed, his gaze fixed on her. After a long while, he said, "Are you eager to marry Silas?"
Charlotte was confused.
Had he been obsessing about that question since just now?
Not knowing how to react, Charlotte replied, "Mr. Langley, you've misunderstood. I don't have such an idea. Mrs. Lloyd probably didn't know the situation today."
Her expression did not seem to be faked, and Jason eased up slightly.
Charlotte took the opportunity to continue explaining, "I know my place well. Don't worry, Mr. Langley."
These words were quite harsh to his ears, but he had no way to refute them, so in the end, he just grunted gloomily.
Luckily, his sanity returned. Charlotte got a chance to catch her breath, talking about a bunch of official business in her haste to divert his attention.
Jason only temporarily suppressed his emotions, which did not completely disappear. He wasn't listening to her report but just stepped on the gas and reached home in ten minutes.
After Charlotte took a few steps, Jason held her in his arms while walking in.
He went straight to the room and was quite gentle while putting her on the bed. In Charlotte's repeated requests, he did not turn on the lights as he started to touch her.
Charlotte vaguely remembered that Dr. Zellweger had said that it was best not to have sex recently, but she was in bed now, so her concern was quickly gone.
With unrestrained indulgence, Charlotte was soon served by karma.
At five in the morning, before dawn, her belly was in severe pain. She hurriedly changed her clothes and quietly took her keys before going straight to the hospital.
Dr. Zellweger gave her a checkup and frowned. He wanted to reproach but could not bear to do so. Then, he earnestly urged, "Ms. Seinfield, your health is not a small deal. Your injuries have yet to heal. If not for the early-stage recuperation, there'd be problems with your baby now."
Charlotte had never seen Dr. Zellweger look so serious. She felt a bit afraid and agreed repeatedly. After thinking about it, she asked the doctor to help issue a certificate of injury.
At 8: 30 a.m., Charlotte solemnly showed the injury certificate and the doctor's orders to Jason in the CEO's office. She informed him with an apologetic face, "Mr. Langley, I need to avoid strenuous exercise for a short period."
Jason was already angry since she snuck away in the morning. He took the document and flipped it open to check it when he frowned tightly. "Inflammatory infection?"
"Yes. Dr. Zellweger said it's because I didn't have a good rest, so my immunity is not working. The night wind yesterday brought me a cold, and I didn't have a good night's rest." Charlotte made the situation as serious as possible.
Jason cast a skeptical gaze and said meaningfully, "Charlotte, you seem to have had an unusually high number of accidents in recent months."
