Chapter 172 His Silent Tenderness
Charlotte felt like cursing but didn't. She stiffly and disgustedly asked, "Mr. Langley, you don't have any unseemly fetishes, right?"
Jason stopped in his tracks with a darkened look. Then, he quickly walked two steps forward, directly pressing Charlotte underneath him. He murmured with a sense of flirting, "I don't mind cultivating one now."
He then leaned down to kiss her. Charlotte was so shocked that she forgot to resist. Fearing that he would actually do it, she sluggishly began to struggle.
Jason confined her in his arms but stopped after that. He just quietly held her while lying on the bed without saying a word.
Charlotte felt strange and struggled to get up, but she couldn't move.
She reminded him in a low voice, "Mr. Langley, I'm going to wash up."
"You'll do that tomorrow." His nasal voice was heavy as if he was a bit sleepy.
Charlotte was surprised and then reacted. Was Jason acting this way because of what she had said about the cameras?
She wanted to say something while Jason had already pulled the quilt over and wrapped it around the two of them, saying in a gentle voice, "Get some rest first. We'll talk about it tomorrow."
Jason's behavior was just too abnormal, making Charlotte puzzled.
She wondered if he was worried that she was in a bad mood and was deliberately trying to make her happy.
The fatigue from the day's journey slowly came to her. Charlotte gradually fell asleep in the midst of her rambling thoughts.
The next morning, the two of them were woken up by the sound of hawking downstairs. The shrill honking horn was ear-piercing. Jason stared at Charlotte with a face full of anger and commanded gloomily, "Pack up your stuff now."
"Okay." Charlotte was able to understand his discomfort and did not say much.
The two of them packed up and went out the door. The scents of various kinds of food drifted over, evoking memories of Charlotte's childhood.
She tilted her head to enthusiastically introduce the nice bistros, and as soon as she turned her head, she saw Jason's frown and stopped talking, picking a bistro that looked fairly clean.
After eating, Charlotte didn't dare to delay any longer and directly took Jason to the No. 1 Hospital.
Compared to the bustle of the big hospitals, the small hospital seemed quite dilapidated.
Charlotte kept an eye on Jason's reaction, and when she saw him furrowing his brows in disbelief, she immediately explained, "The people here only go to the hospital to treat major diseases, so there are generally not many people."
Jason's eyes flickered and he nodded indifferently.
Most of the doctors and nurses of the obstetrics and gynecology department were somewhat older, and only occasionally could they see one or two young people.
The head nurse expressed her difficulty after hearing Charlotte's intention. "The previous data were all handwritten. I don't know how much of it is still saved. The hospital doesn't have that much manpower to help you with it at the moment."
"If you don't mind, you can let me find it myself." Charlotte had a good attitude and repeated the urgency of the matter again. She made it clear that monitoring was acceptable.
The head nurse was busy with her work and agreed to Charlotte's request after a little consideration.
Charlotte took the key and went to the archive. Before entering she purposely placed a soft chair for Jason. "Mr. Langley, wait for me a little bit. I'll finish it quickly."
Jason glanced at the chair, pushed the door open directly past her, and replied in an indifferent manner, "When are you going to find it all by yourself?"
Inside the archive room there was a small corner that was left untended and covered in dust. According to the head nurse, the aged archives were all there.
The two of them put on their masks and squatted in the middle of a pile of documents, starting to rummage without a clue.
Jason was very fast and threw them one by one to the side.
Charlotte was worried that he wasn't serious enough. When he wasn't looking, she secretly picked them up and checked them again.
When she once again reached her hand out to Jason's side, he grabbed it.
She was startled and met his questioning gaze.
"Do you doubt me that much?"
"Because you didn't ask anything, so I'm not sure if you know what I'm looking for, Mr. Langley," she explained awkwardly.
Jason let go of her hand and expressionlessly threw open another file. "I just need to check the year and the file name, right?"
"Yeah."
"So why did you come here to find this thing?" Jason didn't look at her, as if he was just casually asking. "Didn't you get your identity documents done a long time ago?"
Charlotte's movements briefly stopped for an instant. She narrowed her eyes and digressed, "I need it just in case. Maybe one day this hospital will close down."
Her answer didn't mean anything.
Jason looked at Charlotte, feeling that she was hiding something from him. He felt like asking but held the urge to do so.
An hour later, Charlotte touched her aching waist and had the idea of giving up. She used to be an abandoned baby anyway, so even if she really found out her birth mother, what could she do? Could she go to question that woman why she abandoned her back then?
While Charlotte was in a trance, Jason threw a document in front of her.
Dust rose up and went straight into Charlotte's eyes.
Charlotte blinked quickly and complained slightly, "What are you doing?"
"Birth registration. There's your year."
Jason explained flatly and got up as he took off his gloves and threw them aside. He walked out silently, leaving Charlotte space to be alone.
Charlotte's heart seemed to stop beating for a split second. She frantically prayed that the file didn't have her name on it as she flipped it open, but she still saw that familiar name when she turned to the third page.
The birth parent column was blank. It only showed the time and weight of her birth, and there was a small line of notes at the end, briefly explaining about her mother naming her and adopting her.
Charlotte was much calmer than she expected. She carefully brought this page, organized the rest into place, and walked out of the archive room half an hour later.
Jason was sitting quietly in the chair, looking up at her when he heard the noise. "Did you get it?"
"No. The file is corroded." Charlotte somehow lied and covered it up with a smile.
Luckily, Jason didn't keep asking but nodded. "Let's go then."
The familiar car was parked outside the hospital. Charlotte was just about to ask why the car parked in the parking lot was there when she saw Ben the chauffeur sitting in the driver's seat.
Stunned, she asked Jason, "Did you call him here overnight?"
"He came here on his own."
The two of them got into the car and were speechless all the way. Charlotte's taut nerves temporarily relaxed and she leaned against the backseat when she slowly fell asleep.
Ben drove smoothly, occasionally locking eyes with Jason in the rearview mirror. Seeing him carefully placing Charlotte on his lap, Ben sensibly no longer glanced over.
It was already late at night when they returned to Jason's villa.
When Charlotte woke up, she was still in a daze. When she came back to her senses, she was already carried by Jason and walked through the front door, coincidentally meeting Tyler.
She was shocked and embarrassed, trying her best to restrain her surging emotions. "Tyler, why are you still up at this hour?"
"Mr. Jason told me to prepare the hot water in advance, so I prepared it temporarily," Tyler explained with a faint smile." Go take a bath, Ms. Seinfield. It's already ready."
"Okay. Thank you, Tyler." Charlotte expressed her thanks but looked at Jason. Without his order, Tyler would not take the initiative to do this kind of thing.
She wondered if it was her illusion. From yesterday to today, Jason seemed to be caring about her intentionally or unintentionally.
