Chapter 170 Your Birth Parents
Jason didn't look pleased, his eyes filled with indifference. "Ms. Lloyd, you're just my friend that I've known for a long time."
Charlotte had no time to rejoice in Jason's defense but felt weird instead.
Normally, even if Jason was angry, he wouldn't talk to Stella like this. Charlotte wondered if something happened between the two of them yesterday.
Stella was no longer arrogant, her eyes full of aggression and her voice soft. "Jason, are you mad at what happened last night? I swear I didn't..."
"Enough." Jason signaled Charlotte. "Send Ms. Lloyd out."
Charlotte did as she was told while Stella rolled her eyes at her.
Sending Stella away, Charlotte turned back. Jason came downstairs to sit on the sofa. Absent-minded, he was having coffee with a tired look on his face.
After thinking twice, she walked up to him and inquired in a low voice, "Mr. Langley, did something happen? Should I..."
"Nothing much happened." He interrupted her unfinished words and patted his side, signaling her to sit down.
After Charlotte sat down, Jason laid his head on her thigh, closing his eyes with a weary look. "Massage my head."
"Okay."
His work intensity had always been very high. For this reason, Charlotte specifically went to a master to learn the techniques. She was like Jason's personal masseuse.
Charlotte focused on massaging him, while her own mind was filled with miscellaneous thoughts.
"What's on your mind?" Jason noticed her distraction and asked softly.
She suddenly returned to her senses and hid her emotions. "Nothing. I'm just thinking about when I should arrange a private trip for you, Mr. Langley."
She didn't really mean it.
Jason smiled and replied, "Then it looks like I'll have to look forward to it."
Charlotte's heart was pounding. She didn't realized that she was still easily affected by his words and actions.
As the company sent the latest processing progress, Charlotte opened the video where Flora clarified to the camera that Langley Group wasn't involved. She said that the culprit had been sent to the police.
The PR department took advantage of her statement to clear the previous cheating rumors and plagiarism rumors. Even though Langley Group's reputation had been damaged a bit, the bright side was that it did not continue to deteriorate.
After this incident, Jason replaced a few executives who had the intention to betray him and reorganized the internal management.
Charlotte thought she finally had time to recuperate from her injuries, but unexpectedly, she had an uninvited guest.
Seeing Stella standing downstairs early in the morning again, Charlotte thought she was hallucinating and couldn't help but remind her, "Ms. Lloyd, Mr. Langley has already gone to the company."
"I'm here for you." Stella sat down with her arms wrapped around her, as if she was a hostess.
Charlotte sighed slightly and wordlessly went downstairs, sitting across from her. "If you're here to give me money to leave Mr. Langley or something like that, you should drop that idea, Ms. Lloyd. You should know that I'm working now, and I'll naturally leave when my contract expires."
Stella interrupted her and said, "I want you to set me up with him."
Charlotte felt even more nonsensical. "I remember that I've turned down this request. You don't have a good memory, Ms. Lloyd. Do you need me to introduce you to a doctor?"
Her provocation caused Stella's eyebrows to quiver and she grunted gloomily. "It seems that you are completely unconcerned about your background."
"My mother is buried in the western suburbs and my father died early from gambling. May I ask what else I need to care about? Do you have a way to bring my mother back to life?" Charlotte mocked.
Charlotte thought that Stella would drop a bombshell. She didn't expect Stella to talk about her background.
Charlotte lost her patience and got up with an indifferent look. "If you have no other requests, please go back. You may also wait here until Mr. Langley comes back."
Stella leisurely asked, "Is your mother really your birth mother?"
Charlotte stopped in her tracks.
She furrowed her brows and turned back to ask Stella, "What do you mean?"
"Have you never once had a paternity test done? Aren't you curious as to why you and your mother's blood types didn't match at all?" Stella had obviously come over with a full investigation.
Charlotte's mother needed a blood transfusion when she first became ill, and Charlotte had gone for testing, but their blood types didn't match.
"It's not strange that we didn't share the same blood type," Charlotte answered. The doctor said the same thing at that time.
Seeing that Charlotte was starting to get uncertain, Stella slowly added, "Is that so? Then did the doctor tell you about the possibility of a type AB giving birth to a type O? As far as I know, your father who died early was type A, so the possibility of giving birth to a type O is almost zero ."
Charlotte felt a chill down her spine because what Stella said was true.
Regarding her parents' blood types, when she went to donate blood, she had deliberately checked. It was just that she didn't dwell on it.
Seeing that she was completely shocked, Stella looked more confident and said, "As long as you are willing to set me up with Jason, I can help you recognize your family. My parents have been looking for you, so isn't it great to come back and be the Lloyd family's young miss instead of working as a secretary?"
Charlotte came back to her senses after a short period of shock, furrowing her eyebrows and asking rhetorically, "Why are you so sure of my identity?"
"My mom was raving about this as soon as she came back. Even if you're not her daughter, I can still make it happen." Stella was quite determined. Even if Charlotte wasn't the Lloyd family's heir, Stella would still fake the results and get her into the family.
After a long time, Charlotte calmed down completely and responded calmly, "Thank you for your gesture, but let's just forget it. I don't need to know who my biological father and mother are. For me, having one mother is enough."
This answer did not surprise Stella, who put down a business card. "Anyway, my words count anytime. If you change your mind, you can contact me."
After saying that, she took the initiative to leave.
Charlotte stared at the business card on the coffee table and casually threw it into the trash.
Even after she decided not to care, this very impactful fact still affected her mood.
As soon as Jason came home, he noticed that she was out of sorts and inquired, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing." Charlotte raised her head in response when an idea came to her mind. "I wish to have a private arrangement with you this week, Mr. Langley. Will it be convenient for you?"
"What arrangement?"
"Let's go visit my hometown." Charlotte didn't hide it and told him bluntly.
Jason thought for a moment and nodded in agreement. "Then why don't you simply move all the arrangements for that day to the next day?"
Charlotte was surprised. "It doesn't have to take so long."
"I remember that your hometown is far away. Driving there will require some time. There's no rush." Jason thoughtfully offered that request.
While he was being gentle, Charlotte almost thought that the two were really dating.
She murmured, "Mr. Langley, don't be too nice to me."
"What's wrong? Are you afraid of falling for me?" Jason hummed and teased.
Charlotte hid her truthful thought that almost slipped out of her mouth and smoothly turned it into a joke. "Mr. Langley, you're rich and gentle. Everyone will fall for you."
Jason gazed at her with a smile on his face with some emotions in his eyes that she couldn't see through.
