Chapter 51 The Power She Buried

Chapter 51 The Power She Buried
The forest fell into a suffocating silence; even the wind seemed afraid to move. Zoe stood at the centre of it all—barefoot against the earth, her silver eyes glowing with a power that did not belong to this time… or this world. She looked the same and yet—everything about her felt different.

Zack took a slow step forward. “Zoe…” His voice was careful. Controlled. But inside, Zeus was restless. That’s her… but not just her. Zoe’s gaze shifted to him. For a brief second, something flickered, recognition, but it vanished just as quickly. “I’m here,” she said. Her voice echoed slightly layered, like two voices speaking as one. James swallowed. “Okay… that’s new.” No one laughed because this wasn’t something to joke about.

Morgana recovered first. Her lips curled into something between a smile and a snarl. “So… it’s true.” Zoe slowly turned her head toward her. “You wanted me,” Zoe said calmly. “Now you have me.” The air tightened instantly. Morgana stepped forward, her mist curling around her like a living thing. “I wanted the real you,” she said. “Not the diluted version.” Zoe tilted her head slightly. “And now that you see her?” Morgana’s eyes gleamed. “I’m going to enjoy breaking you.”

Zack stepped forward immediately. “You’re not touching her.” Morgana didn’t even look at him. “You don’t get a say in this, Alpha,” Zack growled. The ground beneath his feet cracked slightly. Zoe raised a hand. “Stay back.” Zack froze, not because he wanted to— But because something in her voice… commanded it, he hated it, but he obeyed.

Zoe stepped forward, each step felt deliberate and controlled. Power radiated from her in waves. “You’ve been manipulating from the shadows,” Zoe said. “Using others to get to me,” Morgana smirked. “And it worked.” Zoe nodded once. “Yes… It did.” Morgana blinked. She hadn’t expected agreement. Zoe’s eyes darkened slightly. “But it ends now.” Morgana laughed—a sharp, unhinged sound. “You think you can stop me?” she asked. “You couldn’t even stop yourself before.”

Zoe’s expression didn’t change. “That’s where you’re wrong.” The ground trembled again. This time— Everyone felt it. Zoe’s power surged outward, the air around her distorting slightly. Lucas stepped back instinctively. “Yeah… she’s definitely not the same Zoe.” Morgana moved first. Faster than the eye could follow— Her mist shot forward like a blade aimed straight for Zoe’s heart.

Zack shouted— “ZOE!” But Zoe didn’t move, she didn’t dodge, she didn’t flinch, the mist stopped Mid-air, as if it had hit an invisible wall. Morgana’s eyes widened slightly. Zoe lifted her hand slowly. “You can’t touch me,” she said. The mist shattered, like glass. Morgana staggered back a step. “…Impossible.” Zoe’s gaze hardened.

“You’ve been feeding on fear and manipulation,” she said. “But you forgot something.” Morgana narrowed her eyes. “And what’s that?” Zoe’s voice dropped. “I don’t fear you.” That was enough. Morgana screamed in frustration, her power exploding outward. The forest twisted violently around them, trees bent, and the sky darkened.

“YOU SHOULD HAVE STAYED HIDDEN!” Morgana shrieked. Zoe didn’t react. Instead, she stepped forward again, and the chaos… stilled. Just slightly, enough to notice, enough to understand, she was controlling it. Zack stared, in awe, in fear, in something deeper.

That’s our mate… Zeus whispered. Zack’s chest tightened. “Yeah…” But even he wasn’t sure what that meant anymore. Morgana lunged again—this time physically. Her hand, now solid, clawed toward Zoe. Zoe caught it, effortlessly, and their powers collided. Light and darkness are twisting together violently; the ground cracked beneath them.

Zoe’s grip tightened. “You’ve been looking for him,” Zoe said. Morgana froze. “…What?” Zoe’s eyes glowed brighter. “The one I hid.” Morgana’s expression shifted instantly, from rage to obsession. “You do remember.” Zoe shook her head. “No.” She leaned closer. “But I understand enough.” Morgana’s lips trembled slightly. “Then tell me where he is.” Zoe’s grip tightened further. Morgana winced.

“Why?” Zoe asked quietly. “Why do you want him so badly?” Morgana’s eyes darkened. “Because he’s the only one who can break the barrier.” The words hit harder than any attack. Zack stiffened, and Lucas cursed under his breath. Zoe’s gaze sharpened. “And then what?” Morgana smiled slowly. “Then… your world ends.”

That was it; Zoe’s patience snapped. Power exploded outward from her in a blinding surge. Morgana was thrown back violently, crashing into the trees. The forest shook, and the sky split briefly with silver light. Everyone was forced back, except Zoe. She stood untouched at the centre, breathing steadily, controlled, and dangerous. Morgana rose slowly, blood trailing from the corner of her lips, but she was smiling. “You’ve grown,” she said.

Zoe didn’t respond. “But you’re still holding back,” Morgana continued. “Why?” Zoe’s jaw tightened. “Because I’m not like you.” Morgana laughed again. “Oh, but you are.” Zoe’s eyes flashed. “No.” Morgana tilted her head. “You could kill me right now,” she said. “End this,” Zoe said nothing. Morgana’s smile widened. “But you won’t.” Silence and Zack felt it. Zoe was hesitating, and Morgana knew it.

“Why?” Morgana pressed. Zoe’s voice was quiet. “Because killing you doesn’t fix anything.” Morgana’s expression twisted. “It fixes everything.” Zoe shook her head. “No… it just makes me like you.” That was the difference, and for the first time, Morgana looked uncertain. Zoe stepped forward again “You want him?” Zoe said. Morgana’s eyes lit up. “Yes.”

Zoe’s gaze hardened. “Then come find him.” Morgana blinked. “What?” Zoe’s power surged again—but this time, it felt different, focused and calculated.

“You don’t get shortcuts anymore,” Zoe said. “No more hiding. No more manipulating others.” Morgana’s expression darkened. “You think you can control me?” Zoe met her gaze. “I think I can stop you.” The tension snapped. Morgana’s form began to dissolve into mist again. “You can’t protect everyone, Zoe,” she said, her voice echoing. “And when you fail…”

Her eyes locked onto Zack. “I’ll take everything you love,” Zack growled. “Try it.” Morgana smiled. “I will,” and then—She was gone. The forest slowly returned to normal, the pressure lifted, and the silence broke. Zack moved immediately. “Zoe.” She turned toward him, her eyes still glowing but softer now. He stopped just inches away. “Are you okay?” Zoe blinked slowly. The glow faded slightly.

“I… think so.” Her voice sounded like herself again. Zack exhaled, relief washing over him. Without thinking, He pulled her into his arms. Zoe stiffened for a second. Then— She relaxed. Just slightly. “I thought I lost you again,” he muttered against her hair. Zoe’s fingers curled lightly into his shirt. “You didn’t.” But her voice wasn’t fully certain. James approached cautiously. “So… that just happened.” Zoe pulled back slightly, looking at him. “Yeah.”  He rubbed the back of his neck. “You want to explain what the hell you just did?” Zoe hesitated. Then— “I don’t fully know.”

That was the truth, and it terrified her.  Zack looked at her seriously. “We need answers.” Zoe nodded slowly. “I know.” Her gaze drifted to where Morgana had disappeared. “She’s not done.” Zack’s expression hardened. “Neither are we.” Zoe looked at him, at Lucas, at the warriors behind them, her pack, her people, her family. And for the first time, she understood. Not just her power but her purpose. “I’m done running,” Zoe said quietly. Her voice carried, Zack felt it, so did everyone else. Zoe’s eyes lifted to the sky. To the moon. “I’m going to finish this. And this time, there was no hesitation.
