Chapter 20
ALPHA ELIAS’S POV
I sat down on my resting chair as I ruminated on my life in general. My experiences, my love life, my family and so on. Nothing was exciting for me. There were some few exciting moments, moments I used to cherished before. But now, it's a bitter memory for me. Was it how I lost my daughter, or how my marriage ruined when my wife cheated on me? Or was it the fact that I am now a rogue wolf ? All are bitter memories for me as I smiled sadly.
My rogueness multiplied by ten the day I was informed that my wife had passed on. I cried bitterly and went on a rampage, I killed all the living things in the forests, I had wandered off for about four days, continuously killing animals, even flies were not left out. It took everything in me not to kill my staffs and I had wandered for days toll my rogueness became calmer.
I was seated in the dining room all alone when my only surviving daughter, Claire entered and judging from her red face, I could already guessed what happened as I had been informed earlier that my wife was terribly ill and nothing was curing her. My heart pulsed silently and I quickly excused myself to spit out some blood, a sign that my corruption would soon get out of hand. Although I hated her for betraying me and I had wished secretly that she would come back to give me some explanation, I loved her wholeheartedly and still do, even in death.
“What happened?” I had shouted at her the moment I saw her red and swollen eyes, my heart beating rapidly while eagerly awaiting her response. But she just hugged me tightly and cried “sh-sh-she died Father” how could she do this to us?” She had cried while I tried to control my emotions and corruption which was almost going out of control. And the moment she became calmer and left my chambers, the last straw hastily broke my camel's back as I destroyed everything in sight and yet I wasn't satisfied, I wanted to shed blood, as I shook violently as the corruption took over my senses.
I ran out of the chambers, almost naked and into the forests. None of my guards stopped me as they were now used to seeing me that way. Moreover I had warned them not to get any closer to me anytime they see me like that and they had been obeying the order and at the corner of my eyes, I could still notice their pitiful and worried look anytime the rogueness took over.
Entering the forest, I had cleared all the livings things in sight, snapping off their heads in the split of a second while I bathed in their blood looking like the devil itself. When I realized there was nothing more to kill I began uprooting the gigantic trees around me enjoying the feeling of superiority I was having while doing it. At some point, I began digging the earth for worms and other reptiles to kill and that kept me busy for four days before finally going back home, with my bloodstained body.
My guards had gathered around me immediately and guided me to my bathroom. I bathed, ate and wore new clothes and slept for two weeks before going back to my normal self. One thing about this corruption is the fact that it would make you feel so powerful during the course of your rampage then as week as a butterfly the moment you recover and this was because it had gathered all the strength you needed throughout your lifetime, combined them together in just one rampage. And if it continues like that, you are dying slowly because you might run out of strength soon and apart from that, the strength was too much for your body at that period which would eventually weakens both your body and soul when you recovered from the rampage and that was exactly what happened to me.
I thought about my daughter and who's going to take care of her when I'm gone and how she's going to handle all the pressures from greedy Alphas who might want to take advantage of her gender to collect everything from her. “Dear moon goddess, please help my daughter” I pleaded to the moon goddess statue beside me.
I love my daughter, no doubt but I can't help but be worried for her in times like this. I know my days are numbered and I planned to teach her everything possible to protect herself when I'm gone, still ruminating on this, someone knocked and I ordered him to enter. It was a guard. “I was asked to give you this, Alpha” he said, bowing silently. I looked up and saw a white scroll- like letter tied with a blue ribbon and quickly recognized it as my daughter, Claire's letter. She's the only one that send me letters using scrolls I thought to myself as I smiled before collecting the letter from him and he excused himself.
I went through the letter and it went thus: ‘Dear Father, I hope you are in good health?, I'm sorry I haven't come to check up on you as usual, something has kept me buay for the past two months now and i can't wait to show you what has been keeping me busy. It's a good news Dad, your unanswered prayers has finally been answered, believe me it's an unexpected surprise for you and a life changing experience for the both of us. I love you Dad and I'm using this opportunity to tell you that I'm going to visit you next week, along with my surprise of course! The surprise can't wait to meet you too! We both love you!!.”
I smiled and can't help but wonder what she meant by ‘surprise’ ‘is it an human being or a gift?’ I asked myself silently. “Or perhaps her mate?” I said and my eyes dilated with happiness while I patiently await their arrival the next week.
