Chapter 153 An Alpha’s Sacred Vow
Chapter 153 An Alpha’s Sacred Vow
Victor’s POV
“Yes, I know I love her, but I'm not coming after her because I know she's yours, brother,” I said, trying to reassure Kieran.
There was one thing I hated more than anything else, and that was fighting with my own blood brother because of a woman.
I would never allow that to happen. Not now. Not ever.
Whatever feelings I had for Elara, I could deal with them myself. I didn't need to create a problem between Kieran and me because of something I couldn't control.
Kieran continued staring at me, his expression still hard.
Silas stepped forward, probably realizing that the situation wasn't going to calm down anytime soon.
“Kieran, don't worry. Victor isn't going to do anything,” he said. “His love is just going to die right with him.”
I shot Silas an irritated look.
He had a terrible way of saying things.
Kieran, however, didn't look amused.
He still looked as though he could murder me at any moment.
His eyes had become red with anger, and his jaw was clenched tightly.
“You better stay in your lane,” he said.
He stepped closer to me.
“I saw the way you came close to her in the room. I saw the way you looked at her. It shouldn't happen again.”
He pointed a finger close to my face.
His eyes were blazing with fury.
I stared at him, surprised by just how angry he was.
I had never seen Kieran this furious with me before.
Not even when we had argued over serious matters.
But this was different. This wasn't the anger of an alpha toward another member of the pack.
This was the anger of a man protecting the woman he loved.
For some reason, that realization hit me harder than I expected.
Kieran definitely loved Elara. There was no doubt about it.
I had seen the way he looked at her in the courtroom. I had heard him publicly tell everyone that she was his mate. I had watched the way he held her hand and stood beside her despite all the whispers.
Now I was seeing just how far that love went.
Something suddenly crossed my mind.
It was something I had never thought of doing before.
I slowly lowered my head. “I’m pleading to you before the Moon Goddess as an Alpha,” I said.
Silas's expression immediately changed.
“If I ever think of taking Elara from you, that day I should be stripped of my Alpha title and banished from this pack.”
Silas's eyes widened. “Victor, what are you doing?”
I didn't look at him. I kept my attention on Kieran. I meant every word.
I wasn't going to fight my brother over Elara.
If making this promise was what it took to make him understand that I wasn't going to interfere with his relationship, then I was willing to do it.
For a moment, Kieran didn't say anything.
I slowly raised my head. The fury on his face had slightly faded.
He still looked serious, but the murderous expression in his eyes wasn't as intense as before.
Perhaps he finally believed me. Without saying anything else, he turned around and walked away.
I watched him leave. The door closed behind him, leaving only Silas and me in the room.
Silas immediately turned toward me.
He grabbed my shoulders lightly.
“Why did you do that?” he asked. “Do you even realize that you can put your status at risk?”
A bitter smirk escaped my lips. “Risk?”
I shook my head.
“I'm never going to confess anything to her, so there's no risk.”
Silas stared at me.
I could already see what was coming.
That look.I hated that look. It was pity.
He looked at me as though he felt sorry for me, and I didn't need anyone feeling sorry for me.
“Stop staring at me with pity.” He remained silent.
I stepped away from him and grabbed the water bottle from the table again.
“And besides,” I added, “Elara hates me, so there's no way.”
Silas continued staring at me.
I looked away. Deep down, I knew there was a possibility that I was lying to myself.
But it was easier that way. If Elara hated me, then there was nothing for me to hope for.
And if there was nothing to hope for, then maybe I could eventually get over her.
Maybe. I tightened my grip around the bottle and refused to look at Silas again.
Elara’s POV
Kieran had me moved into his room, and the moment I walked in, I realized just how much had changed.
My entire closet had been replaced with expensive royal clothes.
I stood in front of the wardrobe, staring at everything inside it.
There were beautiful dresses, gowns, shoes, and other clothes arranged neatly, each one looking more expensive than anything I had ever owned.
“No, these are too much,” I said, still staring at the clothes.
Even when I had been a Luna in Alex’s pack, I had never seen this much luxury in my life.
I reached out and touched one of the dresses, feeling the smooth material beneath my fingers.
“Kieran, seriously, this is too much.”
I turned toward him. He was standing behind me with a sly smile on his face, his hands resting behind his back.
He looked far too pleased with himself. I couldn't help but smile.
I walked toward him and wrapped my arms tightly around his waist.
“Do you like them?” he asked.
I nodded against him.
“Yeah, they are too much if you ask me.”
I tightened my arms around him.
He chuckled softly. “I’m glad you like them.”
He lowered his head and placed a gentle kiss on my forehead.
I smiled. There was something comforting about
being around him.
Everything that had happened over the past few days had been overwhelming, but moments like this made me feel like I could finally breathe.
I pulled back slightly and looked up at him.
“Well, I’m just glad that Helena got the justice she deserved.” Kieran's expression softened.
His hand moved toward my hair, and he gently tucked a few strands behind my ear.
“I should thank you,” he said.
I blinked.
“If not for you, we would still be in the dark, thinking he was the best beta.”
I lowered my gaze. Hearing him say that made me feel relieved. For the first time, I felt truly glad that Helena's death hadn't been forgotten.
She deserved justice. So did every other person who had suffered because of him.
It was just sad that I hadn't told Kieran everything sooner.
If I had spoken up earlier, perhaps the truth would have been discovered sooner. But at least now, it was over.
I could finally rest properly. And perhaps Helena could finally rest too.
I looked back at Kieran.
“What about him?”
He frowned slightly.
“Who’s that?”
“The ex-beta of your pack?” I asked.
I already knew the answer, but I wanted to hear it again.
There was something satisfying about knowing that he had finally faced the consequences of everything he had done.
Kieran looked at me for a moment.
“He’s persecuted.”
I raised my eyebrows. “And his head is being hung in the market square,” he added, hatred flashing across his eyes.
I stared at him for a second. “It’s so sad that the village people would have to see his ugly and unlucky face.”
The moment I finished speaking, Kieran burst into laughter.
I blinked. For a few seconds, I simply stared at him.
I hadn't expected him to laugh like that.
It was so free and natural, and for some reason, seeing him laugh made me smile too.
He looked completely different when he wasn't being serious or acting like the alpha everyone feared.
I couldn't help watching him. His laughter slowly faded as he looked at me.
Our eyes met, for a moment, neither of us spoke. Kieran stepped closer.
My smile slowly disappeared as I became aware of how close he was.
He leaned forward, his face moving closer to mine.
I could feel his breath against my skin, and my heart began beating faster.
I remained still, looking into his eyes as he stayed close to me.
Neither of us said anything. I swallowed nervously, suddenly very aware of the small distance between us.
