Chapter 271 You Will Soon Be One of My Family
No one answered her.
Two servants grabbed her from both sides and forcibly dragged her into the Aldridge family's old mansion.
She was pushed into the bathroom, where several maids roughly stripped off her clothes that had gotten filthy in the basement, and washed her with hot water.
She struggled desperately, screaming and kicking, but it was useless.
Those servants who had just been acting so timid in front of her, not even daring to breathe loudly, had completely changed their attitude. They were handling her like a pig being prepared for slaughter.
After bathing, blow-drying her hair, and changing her into a clean dress, they pushed her into a bedroom, then locked the door from the outside.
Yvonne immediately turned and rushed to the door, pounding on it frantically, screaming to be let out.
But there was never any response from outside.
When she got tired of pounding, she slumped against the door. After catching her breath, she continued pounding again and again, until her hands had no strength left at all. Her whole body slid down the door to sit on the floor, but still no one answered.
She didn't understand.
At the villa, all she'd heard was that the Montgomery family wouldn't mistreat her, that she was Gilbert's daughter, that the Montgomery family would eventually take her back. So why had she ended up locked in here?
She didn't know how long she'd been sitting against the door when the lock finally turned and someone pushed it open from outside.
Yvonne reflexively jumped up from the floor, with only one thought in her mind—run.
But before she could take a step, she staggered back half a step, hit by a strong smell of alcohol.
Looking up, she saw Veronica supporting Frederick at the door.
Frederick was dead drunk, completely slouched over. His suit jacket was nowhere to be found, and three buttons on his shirt collar had been undone. His tie hanging loosely around his neck, his face red as a cooked shrimp, eyes half-open, his entire weight practically crushing his mother.
Veronica, struggling to support this man who weighed over 150 pounds, was clearly having a hard time and kept complaining.
"Oh my, you're so heavy! Why did you drink so much! Even if you're happy the wedding's set, you can't get yourself this wasted. Can you even get up tomorrow..."
As she spoke, she looked up and met Yvonne's panicked expression.
Veronica's face instantly turned cold.
"What, still trying to run?"
She threw Frederick onto the bed and stood blocking the doorway with her hands on her hips.
"Yvonne, you're part of the Aldridge family now. The wedding date's already set. Where do you think you can run to? I’d suggest you behave yourself. Don’t turn down a kind offer only to force us to get tough."
Yvonne was shaking all over, enraged by how quickly she'd changed her tune. She screamed, "Who's part of the Aldridge family! You two are both liars! You tricked me out of my money, tricked me out of my villa, tricked me into signing the transfer contract! And now you want to trick me into marrying your son? Dream on! I'd rather die than marry that waste Frederick!"
"Trick?"
Veronica's lips curled as she snorted coldly.
"You say we tricked you? Yvonne, why don't you take a good look at yourself! What do you have that's worth tricking? All the money in your name is now in Frederick's account. The villa in your name has already had the transfer contract signed. All the jewelry you're wearing is fake stuff Frederick bought you. You're penniless. Even the decent clothes you're wearing, we gave you. You say we tricked you? What do you have to trick?"
The more she spoke, the more pleased she became. She stepped forward and pointed her finger at Yvonne's nose.
"Besides, you're about to get married. Once you're married, you'll be husband and wife. Your money is Frederick's money. Frederick using his own money to invest in the company is perfectly reasonable. No matter what you say, no one can find fault with that logic."
Yvonne was shaking with rage, her lips trembling. Just as she was about to argue back, Frederick suddenly rolled over on the bed.
Disturbed by the two women's arguing, he groggily opened his eyes and scanned the room in a drunken haze. His gaze finally landed on Yvonne.
He stared at her for a few seconds, as if it took great effort to recognize who this woman was, then grinned with a sleazy smile.
"Oh... it's you..."
Frederick propped himself up on the mattress and waved at Yvonne.
"Come here. We're getting married anyway, what are you hiding from?"
Yvonne quickly stepped back, her voice shaking badly. "Don't come near me! Frederick, you're drunk! Sober up! If you dare touch me, that's rape!"
Frederick laughed a couple of times and stood up unsteadily from the bed. He staggered toward her, reaching out to grab her wrist, mumbling incoherently.
"What rape... you're my fiancée... this is your duty..."
Yvonne screamed and shook off his hand, turning to rush toward the door.
But Veronica was faster. She raised her hand and pushed Yvonne back.
"Between an engaged couple, how is this rape? At such a young age, saying such ugly things! Since you're marrying into the Aldridge family, you need to learn to take care of your man. Don't play the virtuous maiden with me. When you were with Frederick by the hot spring before, why didn't you say anything about violation?"
Yvonne's face flushed red. Just as she was about to curse, Frederick had already stumbled to her side and grabbed her wrist, dragging her toward the bed.
"Ah! Let go of me!"
Yvonne struggled desperately. Her other hand fumbled wildly on the nightstand, grabbed the base of the lamp, and without thinking smashed it toward his arm.
The lamp hit his shoulder and fell to the ground, the bulb shattering everywhere. Frederick grunted in pain, but this only made him more furious.
His other hand grabbed her shoulder and threw her whole body hard onto the bed.
"You dare hit me?" He pressed down on her, his breath reeking of alcohol in her face.
"How did you treat me before? Ordering me around, making me pour you coffee in front of a room full of bodyguards! Now I'm asking you to serve me once and you can't take it?"
Yvonne kicked and hit desperately beneath him, screaming, but her strength was nothing against the drunk and brutal Frederick.
She turned her head toward the door. "Help! Let go of me! Help!"
But Veronica showed no expression and had no intention of intervening. Instead, she tilted her head toward Frederick's assistant standing outside the door and jerked her chin. "You stay here and watch. Don't let anyone inside run out. Tonight, no matter what sounds you hear, don't let anyone near this door."
The assistant lowered his head and acknowledged.
Veronica turned and walked out of the room, pulling the door shut heavily from outside.
Hearing the door close, Yvonne's whole body stiffened, then she let out an even more piercing scream.
She struggled to roll out from under Frederick and crawled desperately to the door, frantically turning the handle.
The handle didn't budge.
She pounded the door with her fists, clawed at the door frame with her nails, used all her strength to ram against that heavy wooden door, but the door didn't move an inch.
Frederick grabbed Yvonne's arm again and threw her back onto the bed, pressing down on her.
"Ah!" Yvonne screamed and desperately closed her eyes.
