Chapter 270 You Are Already Going to Get Married

Leonard got more and more worked up as he spoke, slapping his hand heavily on the table twice, which scared the servant who was bringing in the coffee tray so much that they quickly retreated.

Elizabeth sighed beside him, patting her husband's back while softly trying to calm him down. "Take it easy. The doctor said you can't get upset—it's bad for your heart. Cathy's back now, isn't she? Don't be angry, you'll Catherine."

Leonard waved his hand dismissively and looked up at his daughter.

"Tell me, what kind of person is this guy! How dare he threaten us—who could swallow that insult?"

Catherine listened quietly without saying anything. She just got up, poured a cup of warm coffee, and handed it to Leonard with both hands.

He glanced at his daughter, took the coffee, and drank a sip irritably.

Only then did Catherine sit down beside him. "Dad, don't be upset. The more smug he is, the more it shows he believes it. The more he believes it, the less likely he is to run. It's actually good that the news is spreading—the faster he helps us spread it, the wider it'll spread when we set the record straight later. When all of Starlight City knows how those two used their benefactor's daughter's life to force a marriage, tell me—who's going to lose face? Who's going to be despised?"

Leonard's furrowed brow finally relaxed a bit, though the anger in his eyes hadn't completely faded.

Catherine pushed the coffee closer to him and said gently, "His greed is exactly why we have the upper hand now. Just let him be smug for a few days. Once that money goes into the Montgomery family, he won't even have a place to cry."

Leonard looked at the cunning glint in her eyes and eyebrows, like a little fox, and shook his head helplessly. The anger on his face finally mostly dissipated.

He patted Catherine's shoulder, wanted to say something but felt it was unnecessary, and finally just sighed. "Alright, I'll listen to you."

Elizabeth breathed a sigh of relief and turned to Catherine. "So what do we do next? Just wait around like this?"

"Just wait. We have more important things to do." Catherine stood up.

"For the Nova Award, I promised to recommend designers for the competition. Now that everything that needs to be arranged is arranged, I'm planning to put all my energy into the Nova Award. Whether ECHO FASHION can reach the next level depends on this."

She turned around, and the smile on her lips finally carried some warmth. "Dad, don't worry about the company. Frederick is just a small-time player—leave him to me. Just sit back and watch how I get even for you."

......

The iron door to the basement finally clanged open from the outside.

Yvonne was curled up in the corner, having barely slept for days and nights.

She refused to eat the meals the servants brought, and barely drank any water.

By now her lips were cracked and dry, her eyes red and swollen, and she looked completely disheveled and miserable.

Her voice had long gone hoarse from shouting, and the wound on her ankle, left untreated, was starting to turn an ominous red.

Hearing the door, she instinctively shrank back, then suddenly realized something and her face filled with terror.

But the servants who came in had a completely different attitude than before.

Two maids walked in one after another and bowed respectfully to her.

"Miss Yvonne, we were blind before and offended you greatly. Please forgive us. Mr. Aldridge has given orders to move you to a different place so you can wash up and rest properly."

Yvonne froze.

She stared at the two servants for several seconds, her mind racing, and then she understood.

It seemed Frederick had finally found out who Gilbert was and realized who he'd offended.

Now he was scared?

Now he knew to bring her out and treat her well?

Too late!

But it wasn't so bad—as long as they were scared now.

She pushed herself up against the wall, dusted off her skirt, and lifted her chin again.

"Now you're scared? Where were you before! You grabbed me so roughly when you kidnapped me—my ankle is still swollen! Why isn't Frederick here himself? Sending you two servants to deal with me—is this his sincerity?"

The servants were scolded so badly they couldn't even lift their heads, only able to apologize repeatedly with the most humble attitude.

Only then did Yvonne snort with satisfaction and limp after them out of the basement, getting into a car waiting outside.

She thought Frederick would be waiting for her respectfully in some mansion, apologizing and sending her back to the Montgomery family.

But the car went in the wrong direction.

The scenery outside became more and more remote. From the abandoned residential area in the suburbs, they turned onto a road she'd never been on before, finally stopping in front of a villa that was clearly quite old.

The house wasn't exactly run-down, but compared to the Montgomery family's estate, it was like heaven and earth.

The smugness on Yvonne's face froze bit by bit.

Although she hadn't grown up in Starlight City, she recognized this type of villa.

They were usually for wealthy merchants who had money but no real power or status.

Could this be the Aldridge family's old house?

Why did they bring her here?

"What is this place you've brought me to?" She whipped around to glare at the servant beside her.

The servant didn't answer, just kept her head down and walked quickly forward.

Yvonne turned to run toward the door, but after just two steps, another servant guarding the entrance grabbed her arm.

Yvonne's wrist was gripped painfully, and she was forcibly dragged back.

"Miss Yvonne." The servant holding her said expressionlessly, "This is the Aldridge family's old house. From now on, this is your home. Mr. Aldridge says you two will be holding your wedding soon, so please settle in."

"Wedding?" Yvonne's eyes went wide.

"Who wants to marry that loser Frederick! What is he! He scammed my money, kidnapped me, locked me in a basement, and now he wants to marry me? Let go of me! I want to see Leonard! Go tell Frederick that I'm Gilbert's daughter, and if he dares treat me like this, I'll..."

"Mr. Aldridge has already gone to the Montgomery family to propose." The servant cut her off.

"Mr. Leonard has already agreed. This marriage was arranged by the elders of both families."

Yvonne suddenly felt like someone had hit her hard on the back of the head. She went completely quiet.

She opened her mouth several times before finally squeezing out a sentence. "You're lying. How could Leonard possibly agree..."

She was Gilbert's daughter, the daughter of the Montgomery family's benefactor. Leonard owed Gilbert his life—how could he possibly marry her off to some loser who scammed her, kidnapped her, and locked her up?

Weren't they supposed to come rescue her?

Weren't they supposed to bring her back to be the Montgomery family's daughter?

Why was this happening?
